Breakfast and all dining facilities were superb. Our room, however, was very disappointing and definitely in need of refurbishment. There was a very narrow bath, so when you used the shower above, the side screen did not seal, and the floor became saturated. The only way to prevent this was to hold onto it by hand, making it difficult to wash. Dirty stainage up the bathroom door, and along the bath, and the corner area by the bath. Dusty skirting board and dusty carpet to the side of the desk. The painted window seal needed a damp cloth wipe to remove dirty marks. The positive of our bedroom was that our bed was excellent and we enjoyed a good night's sleep. We would stay at this hotel again, but would not accept a room like this again.

Our bedroom.

Beautiful house and accommodation. The grounds are outstanding, it was dreamy with trees, flowers, a cane wood, gorgeous artwork, a little outdoor gym, a pet cemetery which was so sweet. The Spa facilities were great and we used it everyday. The food and drinks were tasty and plenty. Breakfast buffet was huge and plenty of options. The room we stayed in on other side of house in separate building was lovely and well equipped with lovely decor. Great that you can take dogs. Sue on the desk was so helpful and a delight to greet at the desk on arrival and remembered my name when we passed through a corridor. A credit to the hotel. I would definitely go back.

Some staff seemed nervous and inexperienced in the restaurant and spa staff doing treatments. If I go again I would ask for an experienced mature therapist. There was a wedding the second night and music blaring to just gone 12 was disturbing.

Nice, large room with huge double bed. Great bathroom, shower hot straightaway. French windows to outside space with table and chairs although we didn't use this. The grounds were beautiful with plenty of outdoor seating to take in the view and atmosphere - glorious weather provided as well! Dinner in main dining room 1853 for which we booked ahead and it was busy. Service and food very good and a nice touch was to be given a complimentary dessert platter as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Live music in the atrium bar finished off the evening. My wife had a spa treatment which she enjoyed and found very relaxing. Breakfast was self service with a wide choice to suit all tastes.

Communication between booking and arriving not great as I tried phoning a few times to check on booking restaurant and spa and also check in time but nobody answered. In the end as we don't live far away, I popped in personally to resolve these issues.

Staff were friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was good - old features of the house preserved. Rooms were fine. We had 2 at the same price but one had a fridge and robes (!) and the other didn't..I wondered why. It was lovely and quiet and night - so much so that I overslept. The food was good - dinner and breakfast.

Disparity between rooms of the same "status". Our dinner wine (by the glass) was not very nice. It was pretty busy in the day with conferences etc, but in the end we decided we quite liked it buzzy. It's quite a big concern clearly, so might not suit those looking for a small "boutique" feel. The lovely house and grounds do make up for this.

A truly spectacular building with a lovely, redecorated dining area that maintains the original historic charm. Excellent breakfast with really clearly identified allergens in each dish, particularly useful for those with intolerances/dietaries. The gardens were beautiful, and the room was quite clean. The room attendants were really lovely and accomodating.

While the room attendants were friendly and helpful, we found the check-in process to be quite the contrary, boardering on condascending. The waitstaff for dinner were rather inattentive and required multiple prods to get drinks served. Dishes and glasses were left on the outside terrace for long periods, attracting wasps. Food served at dinner was fine, but nothing spectacularly tasty. In future, would enjoy the breakfast in the dinning room and find dinner off site.

Excellent staff, they went above & beyond to make my birthday special. Sue (reception), was especially good. With Fizz & chocolates in the room, from the Guest relations team. The pool was great, the spa treatments excellent & the staff really good. Probably the best massage ever from Hannah! The food in both the atrium & the main restaurant was excellent & the service. I really love the Silver Reign British fizz too!

It was so hot in the rooms, but the weather was exceptionally hot, so don't think anything could have been done about it. The staff handled it really well & offered extra fans etc.

I really enjoyed the pool it’s a shame my 12 yr old couldn’t use the sauna or steam room with my guidance. I was gutted that we had to use our mugs from our room to take a coffee in the morning to a quiet space. A travel mug or cup would have been nice to take breakfast away as a bocks for the pastries always a great touch. The room other than that was great I’d only say it could be better if there was water in the fridge. Staff in reception was amazing she was 10/10!

We used our mugs from our rooms to take a coffee outside before we left. If I get charged for those because there were no take out cups I’ll be fuming. As I asked and was told use them instead. I feel the age of 16 for sauna or steam room is excessive if the youngster is with their parent.

I’ve been before and it was as beautiful and ornate as it always have been. Romantic setting with high standards

The restaurant manager at night. She was rude. We were 10 minutes late to our dinner reservation. She phone us and was abrupt and then made us feel like she was doing us a favour letting us in the restaurant and advising us that we wee the last guests to sit down to dinner at 9pm and that the chef was waiting to finish. We then ordered drinks which took half an hour to arrive. We weee also asked to make a choice from the dessert menu when we were only half way through our mains. Again because the chef wanted to leave.
