This was such a pleasant surprise. The Hotel is gorgeous and very well located in downtown near everything anyone might need. I arrived early and they accommodated me regardless, the front desk person was a delight and we nerded out about LOTR and other things on check-in. The hotel is impressive to look at, from photograph-ready lobby to the room itself. Very spacious room and pleasantly decorated with tasteful and unique furniture, not the normal white-wall-sleek hotel. Bonus points for the price, I got a deal that made this an absolute no brainer and once in Portland again, I know exactly where I'll stay!
Nothing, this was fantaastic!

Rooms were lovely and big, with the hotel having some impressive architecture. Soft furnishings were lovely and very eclectic. The location was ok, and we were able to walk to most things that we wanted to see. Unfortunately, downtown Portland is not quite as buzzing as it used to be, so there are some seedy areas to avoid. Stay close to this hotel and you will enjoy what it has to offer.
Breakfast was poor. When we went down, there was nothing left. The plates were empty. When we checked out they are replenished the plates, but it was too late. Quite disappointing.

Staff was incredibly friendly and professional. The included breakfast in the morning was beyond my expectations with bread, yogurts, and fruits, along with different options for coffee or teas. The building felt safe (found it interesting they control access in the evening after 11pm) and was quiet and clean. I would stay here again, as the location was pretty ideal for what we were doing.
It sounds petty, but I'm stretching to reach for something I would like to see improved if I stayed again. The outlets to charge my phone bedside didn't work. While it was set up conveniently to be able to plug into an outlet in the actual nightstand, the outlets were so loose that they didn't hold the charger in to charge. So I had to pull the nightstand out from the wall a bit to reach down and use the wall outlet directly. Also, in the other adjoining sleeping area with the pullout bed, there weren't outlets by the bed, but we had to use the outlet across the room. Not a deal killer, just a tiny inconvenience.

We booked this hotel partially because of the unique vibes while having a comparable cost to other downtown hotels. The location was perfect and we just took public transportation the whole time. It was super easy to get to the airport from here in particular. This was a great spot for us with our baby, there was plenty of space for her to crawl around and for her crib they provided. It also got dark using the curtains for sleep and naps. The restaurant in the hotel was a convenient way for us to get breakfast before leaving for our flight. There were feminine products available for free in the ground floor bathroom.
No real complaints- free breakfast would always be nice.

Right in downtown Portland- we were walking distance to Powell’s World of Books (highly recommend!), many restaurants, other stores and coffee shops. I absolutely love the eclectic decor of the hotel and our room in particular was really fun and as big as a whole apartment with doors that separated the entrance, bathroom, sitting room and bedroom. I got up early and used the gym which was huge and well maintained with a fridge that had cold water and chilled towels. Water pressure in the bathroom was excellent and I had the best shower of our trip there. Staff was so helpful and friendly, they told me that we get a $15 dollar per day credit at the mini-market (located at the front desk) and gave me a new razor and shave cream for free. So Glad we stayed here!
No fridge in the room (but I did overhear them telling another guest they would bring one up if asked). It did take me a hot minute to find the ice machine, I had to go down 2 floors and there was no sign on my floor about it.

I knew from the pictures that it was a bit out there and wasn’t sure how my husband would feel about the decor. He really liked it. It was neat and gave it some unique style. The room is big, the shower was the hottest I’ve ever had at a hotel (which is a great thing after a long travel day). We slept well! The location was good. Yes, there are a lot of homeless around but we live near Toronto, ON so this is no huge shock for me to see. I didn’t feel unsafe at any point during our trip. The staff was very pleasant. We happened to arrive during a parade time when the streets were closed (I didn’t know this when I booked it) and when I called to see how to get there, the staff was friendly, apologetic, and gave helpful info for us to get there through all the traffic.
There wasn’t anything in particular I didn’t like - not too many amenities in the place. The hallways had a bit of a weird smell but nothing overwhelming.

The decor- beautiful hotel and location conveniently able to walk to stores/shop around. Valet gentleman as nice to advice us on different parking options :)
There is No Breakfast (booking.com should stop advertising as free breakfast with bookings!). However, they offer coffee & tea (and some breakfast granola bars) for limited hours in the morning. Plus valet parking at hotel is about $50/day. And the room service was half way done on our last day with bed sheets half tucked in and face towels left on counter- strange! As if they stopped working midway to cleaning the room :(

BEAUTIFUL rooms with glamourous bathroom and fun patterns. Bed was so comfy and location was convenient with most things 10 min walk away. Concierge was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was a convenient grab and go with pastries fruit and coffee/juice as the restaurant is not technically open. I appreciated there being almond milk at the coffee bar.
I was expecting more available on-site room service as I'm a solo lady traveler who gets a little scared wandering out to a restaurant at night, but this is more of a personal critique. The bathroom of my room had some swelling in the floorboards from water damage that appeared to be painted over - I would suggest repairs are done before the water causes more meaningful structural damage to the walls.

This was the one of the most unique hotels i have had the pleasure of staying at. The history of the building and the abstract "wonderland" decor was throughout amazing. I was an experience to stay at the Portland Oregon Royal Sonesta.
If I have to complain about anything. My key didn't work initially, from the 7th floor I called the front desk and relayed my problem. Instead of bringing me up a key, they asked me to return to the front desk. When I got there, they took my initial key and had one waiting for me when I arrived. Unfortunately, I had a full luggage cart. I just want to through in it did not seem like a staff problem, as three employees were behind the desk talking when I picked up my key. But this was minor, and I really enjoyed the hotel.

The front desk staff was very welcoming and professional. The young woman was engaging and helpful. Kudos to her! Parking was easy. The suite was large, and the bed was comfortable. It was very quiet and was in a good location.
There is a destination fee of $30.00 plus tax. It includes a $15.00 credit to the Lobby Market. The name does not bear any resemblance to a market, The offerings were minimal, and the variety limited. Not worth the fee or good use of the credit.
