Beautiful hotel in downtown Portland. Each room has tons of character and the beds very comfortable (on the firm side, not soft). Asked for an extra comforter when I made the reservation, and it was waiting in the room when we arrived. Staff are very attentive, and THEY PAY ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS! Check out time is 12pm, which is nice because it gives you time to explore the city a little longer if you like. Breakfast was great at hotel restaurant. Hotel allowed us to keep our bags at the hotel during the day after we checked out while we explored Portland before our train left. We will definitely stay here again. DO NOT HESITATE TO STAY HERE!

Water pressure was low, but was not a deal breaker. We traveled on a Tuesday night and restaurant/bar was closed (closes at 9pm on Monday/Tuesday)by the time we arrived, so no room service after a long day of travel so that sucked.

We were looking for a well-priced, dog friendly hotel in downtown Portland although we don't usually travel with our dog. The Heathman exceeded our expectations. The reception staff were very caring about our dog's comfort and immediately suggested a water bowl for her. Our room was spacious and well-appointed, with a fresh coffee press and a very comfortable bed. There is a wonderfully inviting, lounge area with books that one can borrow and would actually like read, as well as board and card games for all ages and interests and comfortable club chairs and tables. A very inviting space. The location is fantastic, close to theaters and the concert hall and within walking distance of excellent restaurants and coffeshops. The restauarant is excellent both for dinner and breakfast. Better yet, there is a park within a block where we could walk the dog.

Nothing not to like

Loved the location! We were walking distance to lots of restaurants and bars. Our room was spacious and having a separate living room area from the bedroom was really nice so we could spread out a bit and it felt more "homey" versus just a hotel room with a bed. The staff was wonderful and friendly and we enjoyed ordering cocktails from the bar and sitting in the library at the end of the night before heading up to our room to relax.

The only improvement I'd suggest is to have drinks available for purchase. We wanted a bottle of water and they didn't have any to purchase (cold or room temp) and the nearest convenience store was a bit of a walk.

The staff were all so welcoming and helpful. Location is in an excellent spot, away from the homeless shelters and plenty of shops and restaurants within a 5-10 min walk from the hotel. It was peaceful despite being on a busy road. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The room even included toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, toothpaste, and a small vanity kit.

This is being super picky now, but we would have loved if they also included slippers but it was no big deal that they didn't.

The Heathman is centrally-located in Portland, and it's easy to walk to restaurants, shops, and bars downtown and even in the Pearl District. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed sitting in the beautiful library in the lobby to enjoy a drink while we read our books. The quiche in the restaurant was quite delicious for breakfast!

As it's downtown, there's some street noise - we heard the occasional siren and the garbage trucks at 5am on two out of three days of our stay - but I am a light sleeper. The valet parking is quite expensive. We found a city-owned lot a couple blocks away that was a fraction of the cost.

The staff changed us rooms when we found out ours was next to the ice machine. We're light sleepers, it matters and the staff was super understanding about that. The rental bikes were cool and useful to get a tour around the willamette. The beds and robes were super comfy and we really enjoyed the gym. Breakfast is also really good and rapidly brought to the table.

More coffee offered than herbal teas but this is something quite specific so it should not matter here.

Staff was excellent. Our room was not ready for checkin for 1 1/2 hours after 4pm checkin time. They gave us 4 free drink vouchers, refused the porter tip, and free dinner which we declined as we had reservations at Dolly Olive. Upon checkout they comped the overnight parking fee of $55 and we graciously flowed with the changes and really enjoyed our stay. Had breakfast in hotel and could walk to Portland art museum. Will stay again here next trip to Portland

Late checkin, would like mor breakfast menu options

We stayed at the Heathman after our wedding a year ago and decided to repeat the experience on our first anniversary, and we were very glad we did! It was a very large and comfortable room (suite), especially in light of the very reasonable price paid. Amenities in the room (e.g. tea selection and french press for coffee) very nice. Room very stylish and well appointed. We were given a complimentary bottle of wine in honor of our anniversary (we had to ask for wine glasses to be brought to our room, although this was done very quickly).

Instead of shower gel we inexplicably had a bottle of body lotion in the shower (in addition to the bottles of shampoo and conditioner). There was a high shelf in the bathroom that clearly hadn't been cleaned/dusted in a while. The $5 coupon for two people for food/drinks from the "micromarket" in the lobby is pretty useless though, as not much falls below $5 -- seems more like a ploy to get you to spend money there. And they persist in charging $8 if you open the bottle of water in the room, which is a pet peeve of mine at hotels.

The room was billed as a suite, but is actually has a king bed, sofa and chair. But it was big enough for us to stow luggage without making the room look cluttered. The bed was comfortable, nice linens and thick towels. Everything clean. We had views of Downtown Portland holiday lights from several large windows. Met our needs.

We wanted to have breakfast in the cafe but they couldn't seat us because they were short-staffed. It was Christmas Day, so can't blame them! We had a great breakfast at the Hilton's Mayrose hotel cafe.

I liked the unlimited free bike rental, so useful during my trip! All employees were so friendly and great. I enjoyed having an electric kettle in the room.

The formal breakfast was oriented for more leisure than I needed for a business trip. I had been excited about the in-room french press but honestly the facilities in the room made it difficult to use: how to clean, etc.
