Booked a double room and got a triple (i was a solo traveller) Only stayed for a night and left early in the morning, the room and shared bathroom were fine. The kitchen was quite big and used by lots of guests. Host seemed nice and helpful. Most of the guests seemed to be long term stays.
Guest house, so no reception per se, you have to call the host who provide you by phone the code to access the property and where to find your key (arrived at 20:00). I would personally have preferred an in person or over text exchange. Location stay within walking distance of the city but i wouldn't go further down the train station as it was not so nice at night.

Friendly staff made check-in very easy. The carpark was on the street directly in front of the entrance. The lovely Queenslander house and all areas and facilities are very well maintained, smelt clean and impeccably tidy. There's a large Smart TV and comfortable coaches in the lounge area and a well equipped kitchen and laundry room. Our upstairs twin room was quiet and comfortable but just enough room for 2 single beds, a chair and a mini bar fridge and not much luggage. The aircon and ceiling fan cooled down our room very quickly. There was a snack vending machine on the premises and there is a large shopping centre and bus station across the road. Happily stay here again.
Constantly conscious of keeping noise level low in the open kitchen, dining and lounge room area to not disturb those in the adjoining bedrooms. These areas had ceiling fans but not airconditioned.

I can highly recommend staying here! Peter is doing everything he can to make you feel comfortable. He’s always around cleaning. I stayed in two different rooms and everything was absolutely fine. Rooms have air-cons and ventilators. Everything is very clean! The pool area is really nice as well. Supermarkets, Cafes, etc is all near by and also the Central Station for train/bus is on the opposite side of the street. The hostel is also a very quiet place, I definitely would come here again! I could reach Peter anytime I needed something.

Very hospitable manager, we were met even earlier than the checkin time and managed to leave the bags before our room was ready. The whole place is locked 24/7, so only the guests have access. A swimming pool in shadow was a very nice bonus as well as a little fridge in the room! The kitchen is spacious, everything works as expected, toilets are clean, definitely recommended for a stay!

It's location is great and central, but the atmosphere is so idyllic and peaceful. It's an old place that has kept its' charm, and the person who runs it (Peter) is incredibly soft & kid. It's also pretty well adorned (heck, the showers have SOAP, rare for a hostel-like place) and extremely well kept for the age of the building it's in. Lastly, it's got some great areas to just chill out outside of your room, and is honestly one of the best small, independent hostels I've stayed in.
As much as I love soap in the showers, the lack of movable showerhead kinda dampened my praise of it a little. Plus, as far as I know, nobody used the swimming pool (which didn't look very appealing in the first place). But these are minor gripes in an otherwise great stay.

It is a very nice house and a such lovely garden with pool, the host is also a very nice men. I have got a double room instead of a single room. I had a frigde inside and a AC for free! There is a communal kitchen, a snack machine and a living room with TV and a store room for your luggage. The greyhound bus stop is right across the street at central station and the other bus stops 5min by foot. The shopping center is also located there. The area is quiet and there are not so many travellers.

Peter (the owner) was very friendly and helpful. He is onsite all day and clearly takes great pride in running this place. In total I stayed at Travellers Paradise for 8 nights. During this time I stayed in a private room (single) and a shared dormitory. Both were very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were immaculate and were cleaned several times per day. During my stay I used the washing machines and washing lines provided. The kitchen is large and well equipped. The garden and swimming pool provided me with a place to relax. The internet was fast. The location is superb being opposite the main shopping mall in Cairns. And finally the price charged was VERY good value.
Nothing really !

I loved the location, there was a brilliant coffee shop next door (I'm a coffee snob) and a large shopping centre straight across the road with access to the vintage railway to Kuranda, heaps of eateries and everything you could possibly need during your stay. The home however was tucked away behind pretty foliage and had an old world charm mixed with an organic indoor/outdoor feeling. The facilities were clean, the kitchen was well equipped and the number of patrons was perfect for mixing, chatting while cooking and generally getting to know each other without being intrusive to your peace of mind. The swimming pool was a hit with kids as was the free wifi. Peter was a perfect host, there when needed but not in your face. Overall a great stay, boutique hotel rather than backpackers but with the advantage of access to well informed visitors.
The only thing that could have been better would be a small stool in the kitchen for short people like myself to reach some of the crockery. I'm sure something could be acquired that would comply with our crazy Australian, workplace health and safety requirements :)

This is the place to go if you want a calm, clean environment. In addition to helping me arrange the three trips, Peter also provided me advice on where to go, pointed me in the direction of the closest grocery store, and always paid attention to my enquiries. I called him as soon as I got there, and he assisted me with checking in as soon as possible. Fans, towels, and air conditioning are provided in the rooms. I had a wonderful overall experience and would most certainly go back.

This hostel is very clean. The kitchen sparkles and is well stocked with everything you need. Good shower with loads of hot water. Comfy single beds in dorm with no bunk beds. Good lounge area with big TV . Nice clean pool. Opportunity to book trips with Peter on reception.
Peter commenting that I was lucky to get a room due to my age (I'm 56) as most people my age moan about the hostel and that no other hostel would take me at my age. I felt this was unnecessary and untrue. I had already stayed in YHA Cairns and DreamTime Travellers rest. This was a shame as other than this I had a wonderful stay but his comments when I first arrived were belittling and not professional.
