clean room with bunk beds, 4 or 6 to a room, located right across the massive shopping mall, with wooleys and coles; and myers. Short walk to the coast. Common showers and toilets of course, even for the private room. the staff ensure that after 10 pm its quiet and peaceful.

Its a rather quite place with not much in house activities. Suited me just fine. Left my sandals in the common bath area and they disappeared. Not surprising, I guess. Breakfast is basic. Cereals, and fruit juice and toast. I suggest you go to Coles/Wooleys, buy some eggs, bread etc; store them in the fridge in the kitchen area and make yourself a good breakfast everyday. If you booked breakfast and did not use it, they are happy to refund the money or make a packed breakfast for you to take away. No alcohol allowed from outside. You can buy beer or wine from the reception during opening hours. Again, I liked this, some others did not. The pool and the area around it is quite small, but again, for a YHA, absolutely fine according to me.

Very clean and basic facilities. We had little kids so this was quite useful as there was less stuff around to keep them away from. The pool was great and lots of picnic table to enjoy meals around. Kitchen clean but no oven and couldn’t find a freezer! We were luckily there for the Aboriginal cultural demonstration as well, which was very interesting and well presented. Our son was riveted! Great location, about 15 min walk to the esplanade lagoon and 20 mins to Muddy’s playground. There was also a Woolies in the shopping centre right across the road. We had an hire car and paid $5 a day to park on site. All in all a great stay.

Little bit basic but this was expected and again worked ok for us. Beds were relatively comfortable but not incredible.

Easy check-in/out, and the shared doom room and ensuite bathroom was really clean. The facilities were good and the staff were super helpful and friendly (just ask and they probably have what you need). The outside communal area was also really nice and a great place to meet people. The location was also fantastic; loads of shops, restaurants and cafes in walking distance.

The only thing I would say needs improving is the cleanliness of the kitchen. I appreciate this isn't just down to the cleaners, unfortunately other guests weren't really cleaning up after themselves properly. But perhaps there can be more monitoring of the kitchen so the mess doesn't build up.

Great location, just over the road from the greyhound stop and the kuranda scenic railway. Walking distance to the port and bars. Very clean and very well organised hostel. Great kitchen space and storage options for guests. Launderette, clothes line, work space, pool and loungers, lots of bathroom space, fairly good sized rooms. I liked that there was a real mix of travelers, young couples, older couples, solo travelers, groups etc.

Beds were a little uncomfortable especially on the top bunks as the steps up are hard on the feet and the bed frames a bit creaky. Individual lights would have been super and curtains are always a great addition so that one person can read without awakening the rest of the dorm. The social activities could really be better, it felt a bit of a box ticking exercise as they were listed but not much effort put into running them. Would have been good if staff tried to get people involved and if staff could stick around to get them set up. These are minor things though, on the whole a clean, safe, friendly environment. Staff were polite and helpful.

The location and room are clean and tidy. I shared a room with three more people. I am satisfied with my stay at YHA. Housekeeping staff work up to the level to maintain the place. Kitchen maintenance needs special mention. Staff and visitors are together maintaining it well, making it good for public usage.

The electric socket to charge my mobile or laptop is far from my bed(Although it is helpful for my sleep); I couldn't iron my clothes either. The room itself is too small to do any other work except sleep. The rules and other facilities that we can use during the stay could have been displayed or communicated well to the visitor.

Very clean and comfortable hostel. Kitchen is big with lots of storage room. Bathrooms are very clean too. Staff are really friendly and help you with everything you need. Rooms are big and comfortable and the hostel has a good laundry room with enough washers. It's very close to supermarkets, a shopping centre and the train station/ greyhound station however a 15-20min walk away from the harbour/ esplanade.

There were only 4 lockers in a 6 bed dorm room which wasn't optimal and unfortunately no curtains on the beds.

We had a small private room with good AC and curtains on the windows. There was a small table you could kind of pull out if needed and a chair. The pool outside was nice, big kitchen with dining space outside and inside, great for socializing! Lots of fun cool people around.

It was annoying that you needed your keycard to get into the restrooms. Bed was on rolls so it kept moving during the night. Room was pretty small for two people with big luggage. Bathrooms could have been cleaner tbh.

Absolutely bang in the centre of town with shops and restaurants nearby. We were definitly their oldest guests by quite a long way, but everyone was very friendly. The shared kitchen was great. The lack of a lift could bother less able guests but we were OK. They had a parking space available in the locked garage area, so that was a real bonus!

The laundry room was a bit stinky and some of the machines were out of action so it was a bit of a bunfight to get your laundry done.

Location is excellent and opposite the major shopping centre “Cairns Central”. Easy walking distance to the Casino - Lagoon - Night Markets - Library - Reef Terminal and Rusty’s Market. Kitchen and cooking facilities are awesome with loads of fridge space and cook tops. The community shelf for all to share and enjoy is an excellent idea. Swimming pool a relaxing place to rest and soak up the Queensland sun. The friendliness and helpfulness of the reception and housekeeping staff is what makes a great place home away from home.

What is there not to like, travel is about both positive and negative experiences.

Very close to the Cairns Station. The shopping mall Cairns Central and the two biggest Australian supermarkets are just stone throw's away. Very helpful and welcoming staff. A well-developed big kitchen opening 24 hours. Outdoor desks, swimming pools. Overall a very holiday resort feel. Free air conditioning.

No socket nears the bed. All sockets are centralised in a single location of my room. No reading light for each bed. From the reception to my room, I need to walk up an uncovered staircase, which is not convenient when it is raining. Mediocre breakfast. Don't expect any ham, bacon, sausage, cheese etc for AUD14. And you are only served with instant coffee powder. Fortunately, you can decide on the spot before you pay.
