The location, the staff, the rooms, shared spaces - everything was great! I definitely did not expect that, and this hostel just exceeded my expectations.

We weren't able to control the AC so it got a bit cold, but Luke came and helped us when we asked, so we got lucky we found him in the hall

The location was excellent, just a short walk to the reef tour boats and close to most major attractions. A grocery store is only a few metres away, making it easy to pick up food and drinks. The bathrooms were spacious, recently renovated, and kept very clean throughout the stay. The common area had a great setup. The keyless, Bluetooth entry was convenient.

The dorm room was too small for six beds IMO, and had a lingering smell from damp clothes and shoes. The mattress was firm and the springs were noticeable, so the sleep quality wasn’t ideal. With everyone sleeping so close together, you can hear everything, i.e. if someone’s coughing during the night, you’ll hear every bit of it. I’d book a private room next time for more comfort.

It was REALLY quiet, which is good if you're seeking a quiet hostel that still organizes plenty of activities and/or opportunities to socialize. It was also kept really clean, and the staff were incredible. The kitchen was also really well stocked with pots & pans as you need them, and it was actually pretty easy to cook food here (which I don't often feel is the case in most hostels) and sit on the balcony to eat.

Main negative is that you can only access rooms by stairs, and the entry gate is particularly heavy, so take note of accessibility issues. You also have to download an application to use the place, but honestly it's more convenient to just enter passcodes (& I'm not a fan of having to download apps, in case you lose battery or your phone altogether). Other than that, nothing much else was that bad about the place!

I loved the respectful atmosphere in the hostel. I had to wake up early for work every day and I did not hear any noise from the common areas, it's very well insulated and the staff encourages to keep a calmer vibe from 10pm. However, it's still a social hostel, since there are free events you can sign up to: free BBQs, yoga and salsa lessons, group runs... And the staff is so nice! Regarding the facilities, you have a personal locker inside the room, the terrace is great to eat out and meet others, the kitchen is big and well equipped, and you can store your food in there, and the bathrooms are clean and never too crowded. So it has all I wanted, which was not to be a party hostel but still with a sociable vibe! I found everyone was very respectful here.

Since I was staying long term, I wish I had more space at the fridge to make more foods. However, I understand this is a hostel and there's many of us here, so we can't have as much space as at home. There was always space for new guests, the staff took care of boxes which were not used anymore and sometimes I shared foods with other hostel friends so that we didn't need to take so much space in the fridge. Actually, as a tourist this was great anyways, I wouldn't have found it small at all. And I haven't seen any hostel with bigger fridge availability anyways. Plus, it's also pretty tidy here! So this is just as information for future guests more than a complaint. Apart from that, all good!

We stayed in a private room, I loved the hazy windows to the corridor, the bed was comfy, the location couldn’t have been better and the goki app (online key) made the system really cool. Before we booked we hesitated between an other hostel with a pool and The Village and we made a good choice: the balcony at The Village is the best place to hang out/eat and the lagoon (a free public pool next to the ocean) is literally 5 minutes away on foot. We also loved the big kitchen. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a good gym a block away.

The female bathroom on the first floor was running low with soap for a while but after some days the containers got refilled. It was a bit hard to set water temperarure and one tap in the shower was constantly falling off, and two out of the three handwash taps were missing a part or was broken.

The Village Location is excellent with everything you need close by locally and many interesting sites to visit. The Staff are amazing! Very kind, courteous, consistently helpful and they genuinely want you to enjoy your stay. I must recognize a few exceptional employees, such as Luke, Lea, Maxine and Elena at Reception. Honestly, they are genuinely good people and I would definitely stay at the Village Cairns again

I felt sad and disappointed that the Village was closing temporarily until June 2025 ? for renovations, as I wanted to stay another week before my return to Canada. 🇨🇦 Some guests did not follow the reasonable rules to cleanup after themselves after kitchen use, making more work for the staff.

Modern. Clean. Secure. Excellent service from friendly staff. Magnificent location with close and easy access to shops, services and beachfront. Great value room rates. High quality beds, showers and facilities. Fantastic ‘vibe’ in common areas. Fabulous social promotions with delicious food and drinks. Well equipped and clean kitchen facilities. Most guests are well behaved and in good spirits. A thoroughly wonderful experience.

Constant thumping of washroom access doors was annoying.

The hostel is super central. Right in the middle of everything. I stayed there for nearly two weeks. The beds and rooms were great with air con, big lockers and everything. On every floor in the hallway were seats to sit and have calls even in the evening to not disturb the people in the room or having the lively dinner room noise in the background. The staff is really friendly and helpful. They have a Pool table, lots of games, different spots to chill together with people.

The kitchen could be a bit more modern but you have everything you could need. The bathrooms are a bit outdated as well but the staff told me they are doing renovations in the beginning of the new year around February or March. So as soon as it reopens it’s going to be great!

Very good value for money for our double private room. Room was clean. Two pillows per person is always better than one! General building was modern, well furnished and functioning. Staff very helpful and nice. Also very responsive to queries on Goki app. Location central for Cairns and a minute away from supermarket and many restaurants. Would recommend for those on budget and who can tolerate a hostel environment.

Bathrooms were modern and clean (like rest of hostel) but in need of attention by a plumber and bathroom fitter/handyman e.g. Several sinks and bathrooms/urinals out of action, flusher mechanism not working, shower lightly running even with tightened taps, signs of small leaks near. But overall far more pleasant than many other hostels I've been to in Aus and NZ. Kitchen quite grim but only because of the guests at the time we were there; I can't blame hostel much for this. If you don't like a busy and dirty kitchen then prepare to go out for food.

The staff was so friendly. I liked the location (everything close: the buses, the train station, the port), how spacious my room was, and the cleanliness of the bathrooms and kitchen. I liked the balcony with the armchairs and tables.
