My Level 6 room was near the elevator but was not noisy. Comfy bed. Crisp linen. Spacious. Nice toiletries, coffee provisions and the room had a microwave. Excellent water pressure. After hours code required to access the hotel. You will pay a low rate for a city room and if you don't require bells and whistles, this is adequate. If you are spending more time in your room than necessary, that's crazy .. it's Melbourne! Next door to a Macca's and close to my fav juice bar, Tropicana. I am staying there again soon.

Bathroom is dated and could do with a deep clean, has a shower curtain. My shower was in a bathtub so if you have mobility issues, keep this in mind. No provision for reception to hold bags before or after checking in\out, their desk area is quite small. There was a window but no view, not sure if it could open for fresh air. TV didn't seem to have many channels. I had 3 different types of air con\heaters in my room but I didn't need to use them.

I have visited Australia 20 times and due to my accommodation i normally stay was full. I discovered this place, the reviews i read wasnt good but i decided to give it a go! Apart from a little bit more cleaning as under the bed was a lighter n a wrapper from previous guest.. But apart from that really liked the accomadation! Staff were helpful, location is 100% your right in the city. Really nice place had your own fridge! Toaster! Microwave etc .. i will definitely be returning back here in 2026

Great location! I was in Melb for a conference and this place definitely offered me a great place to stay. Very convenient for solo traveller. The room includes everything you will need. The staffs are great. I was there 1 hour earlier to drop stuffs and they let me in without charging. Will be back as it’s worth the value I paid.

I would have given them a 10 if the place was cleaner. Dust were everywhere, including the corners, bedhead, lamp, hangers, curtains… The room needs much more work because dirt seemed to be piled up for years. I will also want to change the cabinet to a desk because I did not use the cabinet at all and I needed to work in the evening. I ended up using the cabinet as a desk. By the way, the room I got doesn’t look like the one in the picture. The window was smaller and less light from outside. Also, better bring your own towel.

We have stayed here 3 times so far, am currently planning another trip next month as well as another 2 in the coming months and all will be with City Square. Staff are friendly and helpful, facilities are more than enough for us a family of 6, they have always tried their best to have our rooms close together which for us has been huge. Beds are super comfy, location is insane how amazing it is! Would not stay anywhere else if I could help it.

The location is unreal - in a busy city centre strip full of shops, foor outlets and pedestrian traffic so felt very safe. Massive tram stop directly opposite the entrance: 2nd floor room on the front of the building looked straight into the tree tops - fantastic. There is no doubt the furnishings are old, but everything has been maintained, was clean and cared for, but the real surprise was the size of the room - generous space, sofa, large comfortable bed, dining area - great bathroom.. I think this s probably Melbourne's best kept secret..

The grout in some of the shower tiles could have been bleached - that is all.

Location, excellent bed linen and towels and a very comfortable room for a short stay.

No wifi password available, only way to contact Reception was in person OR using your own phone. We had no sugar supplied for our tea/coffee either. The grout in the bathroom was heavily stained due to mould, and the shower head needs descaling! The windows looked out on the plain trees in Swanson Street, but they were so dirty it was better with the curtains closed. Could be an elegant boutique hotel for a central city stay, but it falls well short. From memory the double rooms are very compact, but the executive queens are an excellent size.

Spacious room overlooking Swanston St through tree branches: effort has been made to spruce up the room and the furnishings - successfully! Bed is super comfortable with good linen. Extra heater was a nice touch: great bathroom- immaculate shower & toilet. Adequate bath linen.

Grouting around basin looks like it is being repaired - it needs it : bathroom floor could do with a scrub around the corners, but not dramatic..

Great spot and cheap. I liked not being bothered by staff members or heaps of foot traffic also. I felt cosy and comfortable even though it’s a run down building. Kind of adds to the vibe. I would definitely stay there again.

It was great for value but I had trouble with the cleanliness mostly, other peoples hair in many places which is a phobia of mine. Construction noises early but that can’t be helped with the location, so it’s not their fault. I struggled with the shower too because I couldn’t get the water hot and I kept nearly falling over in the tub. I’m pretty small too so I’d hate to think how others would go with this.

Perfect location in the CBD. Trams stop outside the motel. Flinders Street Station one block away. Handy to Southern Cross Station & Skybus to Melbourne Airport, Theatres, Rod Laver Arena, Marvel Stadium and Queen Victoria Market. Lots of Restaurants close by. Everything supplied to make for a comfortable stay whether for a night or a week. Have stayed here several times .

Late night check in was as described and room was neat and clean.

Late night check in was intimidating. I felt very vulnerable with my luggage late at night trying to punch in a code and retrieve a key, I was aware I was being watched and there were people loitering and homeless closeby. Milk in the fridge would have been nice. Otherwise, as described. Budget style but comfy.
