Lovely, quirky, homely guesthouse in an interesting building. Staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Lovely breakfast included with home made bread and a very nice omelette. Our suite had a nice little gas fire and the residents lounge a real log fire. The cookie jar was full and coffee and drinks available in in kitchen and rooms. Great stay in lovely Port Fairy. Don’t forget to do the walk round Griffiths Island, which is nearby. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance.

Wonderful staff, fantastic food and cozy old world inn atmosphere. We absolutely loved our stay at the Merrijig Inn. We felt welcome from the moment we were greeted by the very special Leeroy, who along with the other friendly staff reminded us how precious true hospitality is. The Merrijig Inn reminded us of our best travel experiences staying in charming pubs in the Cotwolds, but the great food and charm of the staff at the Merrijig made it even more memorable. Yes the attic bedrooms are small and the stairs are steep, but who gives a rat’s when the whole experience is so enjoyable.

Great position; close to the wharf and a lovely walk, also easy walking distance into the main street with lots of options for dinner. Our accommodation was very quaint and comfortable. Our room had a separate sitting room with tea/coffee making facilities & the t.v., a couch & small table & chairs. Perfect if one of you was not ready for bed! A communal lounge which had lots of reading material & again, tea & coffee making facilities. Lovely surrounds too. Breakfast was enjoyable and not too overwhelming - fresh fruit & yoghurt choices, breads, jams, etc. & one hot option which was lovely.

Quirky, warren type layout with lots of comfy corners to relax. Eclectic furnishings add to the traditional charm of the place. We stayed in the king room which was a huge 2 apartment. It was well furnished with lots of homely touches. We had a wonderful meal cooked with local fresh produce accompanied with high quality local wine Restaurant and reception staff warm and welcoming and bid us a cheery fair well Central location lovely for an evening stroll
A lot of the fixtures are ageing and in need of repair. The shower head needs replaced and it was difficult to regulate the temperature. The mattress needs replaced or a topper added as it was an uncomfortable sleep

It was a delightful place, full of character and charm. The staff were friendly and hospitable and the included breakfast was so delicious. It was located close to the river and just a short walk into the town centre. We booked a last minute stay at Easter and stayed in an attic room which was small and cosy (as clearly advertised) but were able to see the larger rooms before we left and would love to come back and stay in one of those. We also had dinner one night which was amazing!

We loved our brief stay at the Merrijig Inn. We felt immediately welcome and a special need was readily accommodated by the lovely staff. The Inn is charming with different areas for visitors to enjoy including a lovely lounge area with an open fire place, a quite library area and a lovely garden (it was too cold for us to truly enjoy this space). The room was large, the bed comfortable and the outlook very pleasant. The Inn is one of the oldest in Victoria and visitors should expect old world charm and not perfection. The night were were there the restaurant was not open for dinner, but the breakfast that was included in the tariff was delicious with a buffet of cold home made choices, cereals, and museli in addition to eggs and bacon on sour dough. Tea came in a teapot with a tea cozy. This kind of olde worlde charm is reflected throughout the inn. We are planning to stay here again in the future.
There was nothing we did not like.

Beautiful old Inn with so much character. Very hospitable, welcoming receptionist. The rooms are cosy as what you would expect for an old inn. Alot of character everywhere you look and tea/coffee and biscuit station for guests to help themselves. Great cold buffet breakfast as well as a cooked dish included in the price. Lots of little cosy lounges to sit. We have stayed in an 800 year old inn in Scotland and this is as close as you can get to it in Australia. It was the perfect end to our 3500 klms road trip. Highly recommend staying here. Thanks for a fab stay.

The breakfast was delicious, fresh, plentiful, amazing! I liked the coffee machine and good selection of teas. I liked the garden. There are different areas where you can sit depending on the sun movement. I liked the closeness to the river.
A cleaner threw our pj's on the floor and we couldn't wear them anymore. We had to wear some other clothes in bed. We still don't understand why would she do this. There wasn't enough fresh air at night as the window could only be open on one side.

We loved everything about the Merrijig Inn. The historic building has been beautifully maintained, all the furnishings and decor in keeping with the era. The gardens are abundant and gorgeous, baskets of delicious fresh produce all over the Inn. Our room was well equipped and very comfortable. The staff friendly and welcoming. Hannah warrants a special mention, she made our stay extra special, lots of local knowledge, she ensured all our needs were catered for. The highlight of our stay was breakfast, absolutely wonderful.
We loved everything

The breakfast was included in the tariff and we were impressed with the 'spread'. We booked for dinner and were not disappointed. Gorgeous 'real food' cooked in an imaginative manner. I am an excellent cook myself, and my partner grow organic vegetables, so as a couple of 'foodies' we are often disappointed when eating out. But Merrijig has it sorted! All the staff we met were friendly and helpful, and we LOVED our cosy bed and had a remarkably good sleep. Our rooms backed onto the kitchen and bar, and so there was a bit of background clatter, but we just shut the door to the sitting room before we turned in, and heard nothing further. Can't wait to go back!
Repeat coffee offer in the morning. Otherwise everything met or exceeded our expectations.
