Lovely spacious modern renovation of a classic historic hotel. Very thoughtful in the fitting out. Felt very comfortable and at home, with a nice outlook onto the main street. There is little privacy between the living area and bathroom area, but that was fine with us as it enhances the feeling of spaciousness. The breakfast down in the hotel’s dining room was delicious.
Water pressure in the shower seemed a little low. The exposed bluestone(?) wall was dusty and could do with a vacuum, as it is difficult or impossible to wipe clean. Maybe it’s meant to be that way, as the room’s name was “Dusty”.

Gemma was amazing extremely talented and great at her job and so lovely, nothing seemed to hard for her to keep us happy she would be definitely the reason we would stay there again also there were two lovely waitresses Maddie and Makani who were extremely good at their job and making us feel very comfortable! The breakfast was lovely, simple but very tasty and fantastic selection for an inclusive breakfast
A couple of the staff members on arrival and before dinner making me feel like they were better than me, also on arriving to book in taking $150 security payment without really telling me anything about it I don’t mind but would have been nice to know beforehand I had also requested a downstairs room due to a health condition but didn’t get one and the staff member palming it back on the no communication between them and booking.com apparently I should have booked directly with them and having to wait till 8pm for a dinner reservation then getting charged $10 for a bottle of still water again without being informed that still water had a price on it!

From the outside you could think that the property was in Devon but inside it is stylish and chic, the interior designer has done a fantastic job. We were given a complimentary upgrade to Dusty Suite which was huge and very comfortable. The outside lawn bar was a delight. The chef runs an incredible kitchen and Elise as front of house is a diamond. If you can’t get a room, at least book in for a meal- you won’t be disappointed.
Know your partner well - the rooms are completely open plan, including the toilet!!!

The Oak and Anchor is an unusually attractive regional hotel, handsome from the outside and inside. The recent restoration has been done with a fine talented eye to retaining many features of the old building, in particular the superb interior stone work, broad corridors and stairs and large windows, while ensuring modern comforts. Our room was large and light, as was the bathroom. The restaurant is very attractive with good spacing between tables. Breakfast was a self-serve spread of key breakfast foods, all fresh and high quality, and generously barista coffees were available to order gratis with breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The location is terrific for foot access to the centre of Port Fairy and the marina/foreshore.
We found the a la carte dinner menu needed a bit of a rethink. The kitchen is talented - many dishes were good to excellent individually ( superb bread, a memorable quinoa salad and a great mains flounder) but the mains come without anything else on the plate, eg a large serve of roast lamb, with no sides of any size and some of the limited side offerings seem an awkward "fit." The kitchen is generous, which is always a compliment, but the chips, while terrific, would have easily fed a family and we had food waste, as did other tables. The wine selection is varied and interesting.

The hotel is historic and yet it has been renovated to a very high standard with quality fixtures, fittings and linens. Staff were very friendly and we were sent detailed check in information prior to arrival. They have a beautiful open fireplace away from the main bar which proved to be a great location for a few drinks before dinner. They have a selection of tasty bar snacks and the plates of hot chips are huge and great value for the price. Breakfast was served buffet style along the bar and there was home made muesli, poached fruit and local sourdough on offer. Bacon and egg breakfast burgers can be cooked to order.

The room was amazing, large, clean, and comfortable.
On arrival we were given blunt details about parking. Although it was beautiful we would necer stay again. They had a band playing both nights, if we had this information prior to booking we would never have booked, $750 for 2 nights of thumping music, we also expected more than a continental breakfast for the price we paid.

Friendly, supportive and attentive staff. Excellent staff, caring and informative. Clean, spacious, modern room. Basic TV stations. Lovely touches such as Plumm glasses (for wine the guest had to order or supply themselves), and Robert Gordon cups. Well located and comfortable dining room.
The room missed a few additions I would have expected at this price point such as chocolates on arrival, herbal teas (peppermint or chamomile) welcome drinks, face wipes/cotton buds. One bath towel per person and a skimpy box of tissues.

Delightful hotel! Beautiful historic building with modern and well-equipped rooms. The bathtub was divine and the bed was the most comfortable of our entire 3 week trip in Australia. The staff were all very kind and we enjoyed being in the center of town. Dinner at the restaurant downstairs was wonderful.
The only thing to be aware of is that the bathroom is completely open - not a problem for us, but might be an issue for others. There’s not really any privacy.

Perfect location! Beautiful room with all the required comforts for a lovely stay.
Hotel itself did lack atmosphere in the main bar/restaurant. The welcome email, extremely thoughtful but information overload and could have been covered at time of check in and maybe a way for staff to build a connection as they kept forgetting we were guests whenever we past through the main area. Staff were always friendly but not very personable for such a high end boutique style property. The bathroom/toilet was part of the main room and thought the cheap bamboo divider for the toilet wasn’t in-keeping with the high end fixtures and fittings, but the rest of the room was amazing.
