Late to check in so we missed reception- but key is as easy accessible, information was easy to follow. Parking at the front or the rear! Our room (number 7) was very cottage-y.. We loved it very cosy and snug. Bed was comfy bedding and pillows great quality. Lovely little outdoor seating in the garden. We enjoyed it Our room was Great for couples, room to hang and had storage to put clothes away. Shared bathrooms spotless! With a hair dryer. Kirchen and dinning was good lots of pots pans bowls cutlery you are free to use.. very friendly family atmosphere. Thankyou for a great stay.

You’re not going to find anywhere else as magical as this hostel in Port Fairy, maybe even Australia! Jess has created such a beautiful space and the facilities are great, as well as a friendly team and joyful, semi-resident hostel dog, Wilbur. It feels like staying in a quirky, historical, inviting home rather than a typical hostel with a gorgeous garden complete with hammocks, great kitchen space, comfortable beds and a stones throw from everything you need in town. The staff are wonderful and the ‘long term’ guests are so welcoming. So many people pass through and wished they’d booked longer! I was only meant to stay for 1 night then move to an AirBnB but instead I stayed here and extended my stay for 2wks 🤭

The YHA is an historic building full of character in a lovely location. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We arrived very late but check in details were well communicated and the staff who were still around doing their chores couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. We booked a private family room with its own bathroom giving plenty of space for the three of us and the beds were very comfortable. There is a lovely garden at the back where our room was situated - an ideal place to relax . Port Fairy itself is a welcoming and friendly place with great beaches and nice walks around the island by the harbour. We attended the local Parkrun on the Saturday morning and there was also a local market on a Saturday with many local producers selling their wares on the field beside the tourist information office. Would thoroughly recommend this as a place to stay - particularly if travelling the Great Ocean Road.

Nothing springs to mind.

Lovely atmosphere. Outdoor area is spacious and tidy, Staff all very friendly. Comfortable beds and very clean. Laundry facilities Close to everything, (beach, restaurant, shops) Didn't use the kitchen but looked well equipped though suspect would be cramped when busy. Would definitely. Stay there again

8 bed room had no storage space, bags were pretty much everywhere. Shower ran hot and cold, not much space in fridge or for space for dry foods when busy One shower and toilet (though may have been a toilet elsewhere) Just pointing them out, not a major issue

Location great, near town and some sights. The staff particularly Loreen was very welcoming and attentive. The open home style kitchen area was a plus as it promoted socialising amoungst guests. Kitchen area also had lots of 'free' spices herbs etc to use with everything you could think of plate, cutlery, pan wise.

The fire alarm battery must have been running out in the shared dorm room I was staying in as unfortunately from 1am through to morning there was a beeping that kept myself and the two other ladies staying up throughout the night. But that I am sure won't be the case generally!

the journey towards Port Fairy from the Grampians at sunset was amazing but arriving at YHA was no less emotional although we did not find the staff due to late arrival, but our room was prepared, instructions and keys provided, special thanks to the owners for describing nearby restaurants and places to visit. In the morning we had even more impressions the hostel was very beautifully decorated with antiques and a well-kept courtyard

As a suggestion.. You can dim the light of the bedside lamps with lampshades or install less powerful or adjustable lamps, since the room is open and the whole family sleeps in it; at night it may not be very comfortable to turn on bright lights

Port Fairy Hostel is fantastic. The staff are lovely, Beds are super comfy - with cotton sheets - this makes a difference. Well organised kitchen facilities with ample food storage, prep and cooking areas. Bathrooms are very clean and kept in good order. Lovely outside space with plenty choice for meeting and chatting to others or having a quiet time with a book or to meditate. Indoor shared spaces are also good with a small dining room, Games room and tv lounge. Really recommend.

It had everything we needed, off street parking at back close to room, comfortable beds, warm room, private bathroom, space and was quiet. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you’d need, games room with a wide array of board games and a pool table. Large TV unlike many places which still have very small screen TVs, the separate rooms out back all had there own outside table and chairs surrounding a very pretty country garden courtyard. And Jess was great, full of local knowledge of where to eat, things to do and see, and made checking in very easy. The building itself is also full of interesting memorabilia and history. Port Fairy is also a lovely seaside town close to many places of interest.

Nothing.

I recently stayed at Port Fairy YHA, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The historic building has a lot of charm, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable, though a bit basic. It had everything needed for a short stay. Some of the furnishings felt slightly dated but still functional. The YHA is perfectly located in the heart of Port Fairy, within walking distance of cafes, shops, and the picturesque coastline. It’s ideal for exploring the town and surrounding areas.

This is what YHA hostel experiences used to be like before they were largely made vulgar by free market ideology! The calming ambience within this historic premises is highly conducive to people being able to interact and engage with one another (as opposed to remaining atomized), while the long building layout and the kitchen and dining areas help to foster such conditions. Jess and the team are superb hosts, while the care and the effort they make (for example ear plugs and hot water bottles in the rooms in winter) - as with the other extras (e.g. tea and coffee, towels etc.) are immensely appreciated! It's always a privilege to stay here, with one's seasonal (and all too short) experience on this occasion being complimented by the wild Port Fairy landscape (indeed no winter of discontent here!), while it's nice to know that families in particular can avail themselves of a great budget holiday, and one which will no doubt prove to be highly memorable for them - with this potentially being inclusive of seeing seals and watching whales either on or near to nearby (and walk along) Griffiths Island!

What's not to like? - I'd defy anyone to find any fault with these premises!...If you stay here, you'll never want to 'Fairy-land'!
