The location of San Felicin ended up being better than I had expected. I'm a 53 year-old chubby man, and I found the walk to the tourist areas to be quite easy, and quicker than expected. I never had any negative interactions with locals during my morning and afternoon commutes from and to the hostel. I never felt the need to take a taxi to the walled city or its surroundings. I had a private room, and it was perfectly adequate and very clean. Some kind soul left their Netflix account logged-in, so I enjoyed watching the TV in the room during the later hours. The AC worked well, and kept me cool through the night. I spent a couple hours each evening at the rooftop bar, with that wonderful view of Castilla de San Felipe on full display. The two young, beautiful women who work the bar are super nice, and were very patient with my complete inability to speak Spanish. The kitchen creates superb dishes, and I ate dinner there three out of the four nights I was at the hostel. There are reviews that mention loud music from the bar playing until the early morning hours. I did not experience that. The music was never blasting, it was always off before or at midnight. While I was there, there were only ever a couple of other people at the rooftop bar - no parties whatsoever. Oh - there is a mall only a few minutes walk from the hostel as well. I found that very handy.

Yes, the streets in the immediate vicinity of the hostel are lined with trash, and rather busy. If you're a gringo like me, the local residents won't acknowledge you, and that can be uncomfortable at first. I am a smiley guy as I walk along, and, at first, it bothered me to have people to stare back dead-faced. The people not earing a living off of tourism aren't huge fans of it, but they generally will not say anything to you. Just accept them as statues and move along.

The location is very close to the castle, and we booked it as it's only a 5 minute walk to Getsemani (as others have mentioned) however this 5 minute walk is across a very dodgy pedestrian bridge that I would not want to walk across alone or after dark, so this kind of limited what we would do at night. Taxis (and Uber) are super cheap though! Just something to bear in mind.

The hotel is very centrally located, and you have a great view from the rooftop terrace. There's also a large mall just a 5-minute walk away, where you can find everything you need if you need something. They even have a supermarket. The city center is only a 15-minute walk away, making the hotel a great place to explore the city. The reception is open 24 hours, and you always have to ring the bell to enter the hotel. So, it's very secure. My room faced the inner courtyard, so it was quite noisy. Wi-Fi was available throughout the hotel and worked very well during my stay. I was in Cartagena at a time when it wasn't that busy. There weren't that many guests in the hotel either. Therefore, it was quite quiet. Laundry service is available, but at a laundry outside the hotel. Therefore, it's a bit more expensive. You might want to find one yourself; there are certainly cheaper alternatives. Reviews often say that the area is a bit run down. That's true. And to get to the old town, you have to cross the Puente Heredia Viejo. It's not the prettiest area. But I never felt unsafe.

Missing a few more shelves or tables. You can never have enough of those :-)

This is a great pequeño hotel. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. Nothing was a problem, they were always so happy to help. I asked to switch rooms because I’d been sleeping badly (not because of the hotel; just randomly) and my first room was close to reception so was a bit noisy at night. They gladly moved me to another room, which was perfect. Hearing the housekeepers singing as they worked was so sweet. Super clean, comfortable, great breakfast, colourful, awesome rooftop views…

The immediate location around the hotel isn’t the best. It’s really not a problem; it’s super close to La ciudad amurallada and Getsemaní. Take an Uber there/back at night.

The hostel is exceptionally clean, comfortable and spacious. Everyone working in there is so friendly and it's nice to see they were all getting along like a family. They always greet us with smiles when they see us. We stayed in the private room, shampoo, towel and body wash are provided which is a plus. Also the restaurant at the roof terrace comes with an amazing view to the San Felipe Castle, staff members were super nice too.

We stayed at the ground floor, it could get quite noisy especially when lots of conversations were made between staff members throughout the day.

great location....really easy to get to all attractions. Great restaurant for local homemade food. Excellent value but bed was abit stiff. The mall is a block and a half away for cheap supermarket. Really nice staff you might need google translate sometimes but it's no problem. Uber and cabs are really cheap.

bed was abit hard but AC was really nice.....it's really hot here in Cartagena all the time.

We liked the quad room for our family stay. Beds were comfortable and had sheets and blankets. We had a private bathroom which we liked. The room was air conditioned. The rooftop area had a really great view at night

We did not realize this hostel was just outside the tourist protected zone. We were walking into the old city from the hostel because it was so close. We did take a taxi several times because we did feel a bit uncomfortable walking the block over the nearby bridge into the city.

Breakfast was the same everyday not even Jam.but the People were so Nice it did not matter

Comfy beds, clean rooms, super friendly staff! Breakfast was amazing too. Simple but super tasty! They also helped us arrange a day trip to a beach which was fantastic!

The road is dirty and bit dodgy once it gets dark, but we negotiated this by catching cabs back to the hostel! They also had a locked front door that was controlled by them for access so it did feel really safe!

One of the best hostels I visited. What you see on the photos is what you get, no manipulating. Rooftop is nice, staff people are nice and its close to old town.

I wish music in the rooftop was not loud, however its our fault for not asking to lower the volume down, and we were just under the bar
