The view from the terrace is fantastic. Birds and volcano. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are more than one receptionist at work at the same time so always someone there to ask questions. The tours they offer really are cheaper than online. We booked Baldi with them and that worked fine. The place is right in town and at the same time on the outside. You can walk to the center in 7 minutes and at the same time it’s the last building in town so it has views in nature. No noise from the town at all (the town is nice but also has a lot of tourists so I thought this inside and outside location was great. Just nature sounds at night :-) I thought the prices of the location were very good for what we got. Fine little pool, you can have your own drinks there if you want. We were with our kids of 16,13,8 and stayed in 2 rooms next to each other. Breakfast could be ordered every morning ing if we wanted. We also had our own lunch in the restaurant. You’re allowed to sit there as they don’t serve lunch. So we had volcano view lunch with our own groceries. Would visit again. We did want to do the night tour with Armando which is free. But it’s only available if you book the sloth tour as well. So if you want to do it, book the sloth tour! We were maybe going to do it without the sloth tour but then it started raining very very hard so that didn’t work out in the end. But the guy is very busy, so if you want to be certain to get a spot, book the sloth tour :-)

This is a Really Good little mid-grade hotel with kind helpful staff, a breakfast with a view of the volcano and birds, roomy air-conditioned rooms with comfortable beds, and a lovely little pool being built now with a swim-up bar and beautiful hand-worked wood seating area, lounge with games & pool table (handy during rainy season). Good location to some nice sodas, mercados and bars, souvenir shops, and a Really Good sloth Tour with Armondo > we saw 7–including a Mom & Baby! Good pricing on tours, lots of help getting Ubers, taxis, etc. The back is against a small strip of jungle, there is a garden with flowers around the hotel, and some water features.. Travesia Restaurant in walking distance has some of the Best Food in Town (havent tried their restaurant for dinner yet, only breakfast which was good). Very Clean, with daily cleaning provided.

If only I could have more time. I would definitely stay there longer. Armando showed us many animals in the bush every night. The restaurant was amazing too. And the room? Way ahead of my expectations. The staff was great.

We loved Hotel Xilopalo! It is set right in the jungle, but within walking distance to the hub of the town. Staff were absolutely fantastic in every way! Jose gave us a warm greeting upon arrival and gave us a personal tour pointing out all of the amenities before bringing us to our room. The rooms are large with a natural wood design and very reasonably priced. In the morning, we had coffee and breakfast surrounded by many types of birds and a beautiful view of the volcano. We did a night walk on the property as well as a sloth tour with Armando. We couldn't have asked for a better tour - we saw lizards, frogs, toucans, and several sloths. We would absolutely visit again!

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel in La Fortuna! Nestled in the jungle, it’s the perfect spot for birdwatching right from the property. The staff (Jose and Luis) were all incredibly kind and welcoming. they even gave me a brief tour before check-in, which was a lovely touch. Breakfast was delicious, and enjoying it with a view of the volcano made it even more special. I also want to give a special shoutout to Armando, my guide for the sloth tour. He helped me spot 11 sloths along with many beautiful birds. His passion and enthusiasm were truly impressive. He even offered me a night tour around the hotel grounds, where we found various tree frogs, absolutely magical! The next evening , he spotted more frogs and lizards and kindly showed them to me again. Armando is an incredible guide with sharp eyes and a deep love for nature. Thanks to him and the wonderful hotel team, my stay was unforgettable. Highly recommend!

The staff who greeted me, Luis, was very attentive, informative, and kind. He helped me figure out a few tours that I ended up booking while I stayed in La Fortuna. The room was very very clean. The cleaners came in each day to clean it again and replenish supplies. It was always very pleasant. The view was incredible out of my room and balcony. The location was *slightly* off the beaten path but not so far away to make it unwalkable. Anytime I had a question, those at the front desk were more than happy to help find an answer for me. Breakfast was incredible every morning with generous portions and beautiful views of the volcano.

Perhaps having some quiet hours of some sort posted throughout the property. Truly the only negative I can think of is that the people I shared a wall with were having fun and a bit loud for a portion of the night. It did not however disturb my sleep or cause me really any harm

This property is in a great location. Just a short walk into town but tucked away on a quiet street. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about tours available. I wish I would have booked through the hotel as they had better prices than what I paid directly to the tour company. Next time. The room was spacious and clean. We had a 3 bed family room with a small fridge. The AC worked great.

The bathroom was just ok. The shower water was cold to warm but never hot. The sink was more like a bird bath and was always filled with water. We did not find the pool area too inviting. It was very cozy, sheltered and off the parking lot. If it was out by the trees with a view of the volcano that would have been better but if you come for the adventures and to be out in the town, this place is perfect and a great price!

The place has a real cool vibe, like a youth hostel for grown ups. Lovely public area with swimming pool and outdoor couches, nice inside area with table pool and games. Staff is kind and happily shows the nature around and the additional booking possiblities. The breakfast area (btw breakfast was quite good) is super cool overlooking vulcano (difficult to see it though given constant cloud coverage) and many birds. The pond close to the swimming pool is also sweet with turtles, jesus christ lizard and blue jeans frogs.

I would recommend Xilopalo, lovely place. But the cool vibe also means lack of important detail, especially in the room. Ours was spacious but not very clean and would heavily benefit from some restructuring. Not a fancy hotel but a cool place if you like nature at the border of la fortuna

We had booked as a family to all stay in the same room but when we arrived we were offered the option to stay in two separate rooms for an additional $50. The communal space/restaurant had a fabulous view of Arenal volcano. It was the best place to have breakfast. The breakfasts were excellent but came at an extra cost. There was lots of wildlife to see in the surrounding gardens.

Unfortunately, the additional room ( which was separate from the main building, smelled strongly of damp and there was no coffee in the room. Our original room was in the main building and was much better but the bedding on one of the beds also smelled damp.

The hotel has beautiful hangout spots near the reception and pool. The restaurant on site also has an amazing view of the volcano. We stayed in the family suite and had a beautiful volcano view and a mini kitchen with a microwave and a small cooker. The family suite is spacious and beautiful - amazing value for the price. We truly enjoyed our stay and will plan to stay here on a future visit.

While the property was generally quiet, we could hear loud conversations in the hallway, but this was intermittent and only a very minor inconvenience/non-issue for us.
