The view from the terrace is fantastic. Birds and volcano. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are more than one receptionist at work at the same time so always someone there to ask questions. The tours they offer really are cheaper than online. We booked Baldi with them and that worked fine. The place is right in town and at the same time on the outside. You can walk to the center in 7 minutes and at the same time it’s the last building in town so it has views in nature. No noise from the town at all (the town is nice but also has a lot of tourists so I thought this inside and outside location was great. Just nature sounds at night :-) I thought the prices of the location were very good for what we got. Fine little pool, you can have your own drinks there if you want. We were with our kids of 16,13,8 and stayed in 2 rooms next to each other. Breakfast could be ordered every morning ing if we wanted. We also had our own lunch in the restaurant. You’re allowed to sit there as they don’t serve lunch. So we had volcano view lunch with our own groceries. Would visit again. We did want to do the night tour with Armando which is free. But it’s only available if you book the sloth tour as well. So if you want to do it, book the sloth tour! We were maybe going to do it without the sloth tour but then it started raining very very hard so that didn’t work out in the end. But the guy is very busy, so if you want to be certain to get a spot, book the sloth tour :-)

This is a Really Good little mid-grade hotel with kind helpful staff, a breakfast with a view of the volcano and birds, roomy air-conditioned rooms with comfortable beds, and a lovely little pool being built now with a swim-up bar and beautiful hand-worked wood seating area, lounge with games & pool table (handy during rainy season). Good location to some nice sodas, mercados and bars, souvenir shops, and a Really Good sloth Tour with Armondo > we saw 7–including a Mom & Baby! Good pricing on tours, lots of help getting Ubers, taxis, etc. The back is against a small strip of jungle, there is a garden with flowers around the hotel, and some water features.. Travesia Restaurant in walking distance has some of the Best Food in Town (havent tried their restaurant for dinner yet, only breakfast which was good). Very Clean, with daily cleaning provided.

If only I could have more time. I would definitely stay there longer. Armando showed us many animals in the bush every night. The restaurant was amazing too. And the room? Way ahead of my expectations. The staff was great.

We loved Hotel Xilopalo! It is set right in the jungle, but within walking distance to the hub of the town. Staff were absolutely fantastic in every way! Jose gave us a warm greeting upon arrival and gave us a personal tour pointing out all of the amenities before bringing us to our room. The rooms are large with a natural wood design and very reasonably priced. In the morning, we had coffee and breakfast surrounded by many types of birds and a beautiful view of the volcano. We did a night walk on the property as well as a sloth tour with Armando. We couldn't have asked for a better tour - we saw lizards, frogs, toucans, and several sloths. We would absolutely visit again!

Lovely hotel! We had a huge room with 4 huge beds! So we had 1 each (our girls thought they were the comfiest beds they've ever slept in)! Lots of space which was great. The staff are very helpful and friendly especially Luis who helped with any queries we had. Really nice pool area with hammocks and lots of seating. In a beautiful setting amongst lots of tropical plants and trees. The highlight was definitely breakfast (delicious) which was in the most amazing room that was open on 2 sides so you could sit and watch the birds, it was stunning and so peaceful. We saw toucans on our first day which was fab! Also a great view of the volcano (well I imagine it would be a great view if wasn't cloudy!). The hotel is in a good location, away from the main drag so nice and quiet. Just a 5-10 minute walk to the main part of La Fortuna with lots of restaurants. Highly recommend doing the Sloth Trail with Armando, a trip that the hotel offers. We saw sloths (including a baby!), toucans, lizards (including an iguana high up on a tree) and poison dart frogs. It was the best tour we had so find time to fit this in! All in all a great stay at Arenal Xilopalo and would definitely recommend.

Great location, walking distance to the center of town. There is also a laundromat less than 5 minute walk from the hotel that was good and reasonable pricing. It's next to Soda Melania. Room was very spacious with nice sitting area too. It had air conditioning that worked very well. The shower is spacious with hot water. Staff was always available to help and booked several excursions. Breakfast at the attached restaurant was very good, western ham & cheese omlette for me, and french toast for my husband, with fruits. $9 USD per person. Had dinner there one night, it was very good, reasonable price too. As suggested by other reviews, the sloth tour with Armado is not to be missed!

The water pressure in the shower could be stronger. But glad we had good hot shower.

One of the best-value and friendliest places we have ever stayed in on our travels. The location is just on the edge of town, less than 10min walk from all amenities in La Fortuna, but at the same time the rooms actually overlook the forest - there were toucans and other birds just outside our room in the mornings! The staff we had contact with all made a big effort to give us all the info we needed - we had a lot of questions and they had a lot of patience with us, and helped us take full advantage of our stay in and around La Fortuna. We would like to make special mention of Armando, the hotel guide, who took us looking for sloths and also showed us some amazing frogs just behind the hotel at night - we highly recommend going on a sloth walk with him. As for the hotel itself, the room was very spacious, comfortable and quiet, the breakfast was excellent and all in all we really couldn't recommend this place enough.

We really couldn't improve on anything.

The staff was fabulous, it is a family-owned business. Jose who is one of the owners was extremely helpful and he has contacts with everybody in town to arrange any bookings or transportation that you need at a discounted price. The buildings are somewhat shabby and in need of some renovations but the air conditioning was effective and the beds were okay. The screening was effective and kept mosquitoes out . We had an entire 3 room apartment for a very reasonable price but there were transoms between the rooms so not really any privacy except visually. The common areas are quite extensive it looks like it might have been a hostel at one time The restaurant is only so-so. The biggest negative is that the outdoor smoking area was in the nicest lounging area right next to the pool. I cannot understand why they would make that choice

It’s a perfect hotel with a super fair price. Rooms interior is a bit old, but in good condition and you will find all what you need. Also it’s very clean. There is a nice pool with a nice area around. Breakfast is tasty and the view from the restaurant area is super ! Lovely and very professional stuff. It’s a quite location which we were really looking for. But in just some min walk you are in the middle of the town where you can find all what you would need. You can buy some entrance fees directly at the reception cheaper than directly at the national park for example - which is also a nice offer ! Highly recommend especially for that good price-quality ratio

The hotel is just perfect in every way, the stuff are so kind and helpfull, the guy that served in the restaurant is awesome and so kind! The room was very big with two double beds and clean. The pool area was great. The restaurant had amazing views of the volcano and there were many birds in the morning at the bird feeders the stuff put up. The locacition is perfect, 5 min walk from "the center", but hidden and sorounded by nature, it felt like being in the jungle. They also have amazing gardens where you can see many animals. They offer a lot of tours much cheaper than in other places and also tickets to the attractions in La Fortuna at cheaper prices than at the entrance. Sloth tour with Armando is a must, he is such a kind bloke, and very dedicated. The tour was supposed to be 1.5 h long, but we stayed for 3 whole hours. And he even took us around the hotel gardens at night on a night walk for free 3 nights in a row, it just doesn't get better than that! Thank you, Armando! I just cannot recommend this hotel enough, everything was just perfect!
