Hotel Colinas del Sol is a mini-resort, a destination hotel. After noisy nights at beach or resort hotels in tourist towns, the quiet is amazing. The grounds are a garden of Eden with numerous birds, shaded paths, and cupolas. The restaurant serves a good breakfast and serves dinner 5 days per week, and lunch 3 days per week. A measure of the care which is taken is that the newer rooms on a hill have plants designed to attract hummingbirds in the concrete planter. Our room did not have AC, but it wasn't necessary. Atenas claims that it has the best climate in the world and I agree. The temperatures which might seem uncomfortably high are not because the humidity is so low in January. The owners and staff are friendly, helpful, and speak excellent English. One of the owners/managers is German so it is also German friendly. It is about 15 minutes walk or 5 minute drive from the center of Atenas where there are numerous supermarkets, restaurants, and bakeries. Atenas is an upscale little town - the neighborhood is upscale and safe. Single women walk at night.

The swimming pool is a little chilly for my tastes, but I dislike cold water more than most.

Clean comfortable basic room, but without extras. Staff very friendly AND helpful. Nice breakfast which you chose from several offerings on a menu. Large pool (which we did not have time to use). Pretty, lush tropical landscaping. I found the bed very comfortable. My wife felt it too firm, but that's a matter of taste. Great location for us.

No negatives, really. Like I said, room is pretty basic. Does not match photos on website. However, we booked a standard room and photos may represent more expensive rooms on property. Overall, a positive experience.

We arrived late after a long day of travel with two children. We had been traveling throughout Costa Rica for the past week and were looking for a place to stay after leaving Jaco and within an hour of San Jose Airport. Everyone was very friendly, hospitable and welcoming. The food was delicious. Service was great. Our room was was quaint, clean and relaxing. Needed a few extra blankets for the children and they were more than happy to get those for us. Room and especially the Bathroom was very nice and clean. We wish we could have arrived earlier to enjoy the pool during the day and maybe stayed and extra day. The sharp left turn getting off the road from Jaco, threw us off a bit, but trust your Waze app. Hotel Colinas is tucked away in a cozy little spot with nice grounds with plants and trees. We would like to say thank you to the folks there with our late evening dinner.

Nothing. It was quaint and homey and reasonably price for what we needed.

The surroundings were beautiful and the pool was perfect for refreshing swims. My room was spare, clean and serviceable. The staff were all very helpful and lovely Ticos, who are wonderful people. Restaurant’s Tico cuisine is not fancy but just right.

The bed in my room was a bit uncomfortable with a lumpy crease in the middle of the mattress.

Cute authentic Costa Rica style casita. The whole property was very nice and we were woken in the morning by local roosters which was perfectly fine! Location was very close to town and the staff was outstanding.

Hot water for the shower took a while to get warm, but not a big deal!

There was a choice of 5 offerings at breakfast that were carefully prepared by a friendly staff and delicious. Lovely, lush garden with plenty of birds to enjoy. Family run gentle place that we will return to very soon. Thank you.

Difficulty accessing the upper parking lot to the standard rooms due to construction and poor condition of the road.

We arrived late but the hote kept their kitchen open so they could give us a delicious pre ordered dinner. The room was perfect with a great shower and comfortable mattress and we had the best night’s sleep ever - waking up to the sound of beautiful birdsong. The flora is amazing and we spent hours looking at the birds, butterflies and plants in the grounds before having a refreshing swim. The breakfast was fantastic and all the staff were lovely.

Just outside the nice little town with handful of bars/cafes (walkable but plenty of taxis by the square). Greenery and birdsong all around in a semi rural setting within easy reach of the airport.

Room was nice but a little smaller than anticipated and the grounds and pool area need a little more TLC than the pics show.

The hotel grounds were beautiful and we loved the little porch on our villa. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

The pool area could use some sprucing up and the beds and pillows were a little flat.

My fiancé and I were on our anniversary vacation. We got stuck in Costa Rica for an extra day and ended up finding this lovely location. I was pleased with every aspect of our stay here. The staff is very friendly, the food is absolutely delicious and the rooms were extremely cozy. I would definitely stay here again on my next trip!
