The very first thing that you like about this hotel is the settings. It's feels like staying in a private house/mansion with elaborate design, filled with artwork and unexpected corners and areas to lounge. The layout of the hotel makes your stay very unique. The patio by the entrance has a very charming atmosphere. It is a very unique stay in the middle of nowhere, considering the neighborhood where it's located. You would need to drive or take a taxi to any attraction in the city from the hotel. There are couple of groceries within walking distance and a decent restaurant on the same block, otherwise it's a low kew residential with nothing particular to see outside the hotel. The breakfast is very decent and is made to your order out of selection in the menu, however I wish there was more variety - during few days it becomes boring. Staff is accommodating and friendly.

Shower heads are horrible. Considering overall pleasant experience in this hotel I wonder why they can't fix the shower heads! Mine was clogged and spraying all over the place with no way to adjust it. you have to wait for the water to heat up. There is a safe in the room but it was not attached to the wall, so kind of pointless, and it was too small for my 15 inch laptop.

The property is great. The free breakfast is good. The hotel has plenty of artworks. The rooms are spacious. We love that there is a sitting room & bar room in the facility. It is in a residential area therefore not a lot of restaurants in the vicinity although there’s a restaurant across and minimart too. We took uber to most places. We loved most of the staff & kitchen crew & the manager. We stayed for 13 nights.

Our shower sometimes did not have hot water. On our checkout day, the receptionist Gina got a little bit testy because we were 10 minutes late in checking out.

The art and esthetic in this hotel are phenomenal, we stayed 4 days and I felt like I noticed something new everytime we walked in and out. This isn't the Hilton and that's great because you know you're in Costa Rica when you're here. The room was very comfortable and had good AC, a fridge and TV. The staff went out of their way to assist us and every request was met with a smile and usually a way to figure it out. Breakfast here is phenomenal and it can be delivered to your room at your request which was a nice touch. The hotel is located in a suburban area of San José that is reasonably quiet and had a few restaurants nearby. There is a well stocked convenience store very nearby with anything you could possibly need. This is an older, very charming historical property. Keep that in mind if you are more accustomed to The hotel does take security seriously and you have to be buzzed in and out. We felt safe in the neighborhood, walking to dinner at night etc. I understand why this is and after a few days in San Jose we very much appreciated the quiet, secure surroundings at the end of the day. Very happy with the hotel and exceptional staff. it was a very warm welcome to a new country for us and I would highly recommend it!

Things are really well appointed, but you will hear noises of the hotel and other guests.

Good value. Big breakfast cooked to order. Ubers found it easily. Helpful friendly staff. Provided tour information. Felt safe. Hot water in shower and hand sink. Small grocery store 1.25 blocks away.

Lots of stairs. We chose to be in a lower level room due to mobility issues ( ages 70+). Our room was fine. We didn’t really stay in it that much …as we were out and about during the day. But if we were more agile… I would have liked an upstairs room … as they have more natural light. The hotel needs a small elevator. Anyone needing a cane or walker should not select this hotel.

Wonderful Stay, Exceptional Service! We stayed at Hotel Casa Roland*l on both our first and last nights in San José, and it was the perfect choice. After arriving incredibly sleep-deprived on our first night, we had the most amazing and comfortable sleep. The next morning, we were treated to what turned out to be the *best breakfast of our entire trip*—fresh, delicious, and plentiful. The decor of the hotel is eclectic and charming, with bold artwork, lush plants, iron gates, and hallways that feel like an art gallery. We especially loved the breezy front porch where we could unwind with a drink after a long travel day. Free parking was conveniently located right across the street and felt safe and easy. But what really sets Casa Roland apart is the *outstanding service*. On the morning of our departure, already en route to return our rental car, we got a call from the hotel: we had left my child’s laptop in the room—something urgently needed for school the next day. I asked if they could overnight it, but they went a step further. They put the laptop in a taxi and had it delivered directly to us *at the car rental return*! Absolutely above and beyond. Thank you, Casa Roland, for not only providing comfort and beauty but also saving the day. We’ll absolutely be back next time we’re in San José!

Only one thing I would say that could improve, When I asked for possible early check in, I received an email that stated that the "Rules" were that check in is after 3:00pm. Then when I called the day before to ask again about a possible early check in, I received the same direct answer "check in is at 3:00pm!", without any real personal understanding of my circumstances regarding why I needed early check in. The communication was very robotic, not so friendly. However, in the end you did get me an early check in. Muchas Gracias

The property is beautiful when you’re in it. The staff is very friendly. The room was spectacular, including the bathroom. The breakfast was overwhelmingly generous and absolutely delicious. Someone was able to help us with our suitcases. Check in was easy. Fans helped cool us at night.

Lots of noise even throughout the night. There is no access to disability routes in the hotel which can require several flights of stairs and even going up and down various stairs cases to get to and from your room. The hot water in the shower needs an explanation to get it warm. There is no air conditioning in the room so fans are all that work

What a fun and unique place! I could have walked around looking at the paintings for hours! We each had our own beautiful room with a comfortable bed and a spacious hot shower. We needed to arrange for a shuttle to the airport at 3:00 AM (yes, 3:00 AM) and were a little nervous about the reliability of a taxi. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and arranged this for us with a reliable taxi driver they were familiar with. He was the nicest man. We wish we could have spent a few more nights here. 100% recommend.

Nothing, really. We liked everything.

The breakfast was a sit-down, full service traditional Costa Rican breakfast, with a fresh fruit plate and very good coffee to start. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Our first cab we had scheduled to take us to the airport didn't show up, and they helped us arrange a ride so we didn't miss our flight. The nice woman at the desk spoke very good English, as well. The decor was beautiful and our room was huge. It was a wonderful hotel and was very affordable. Thank you!

Nothing! It was great.

We really enjoyed the location and felt this place is excellent value for money. It was clean and well presented- a very solid building that was decorated in the local cultural style. Made us feel we were in a different country and not a cookie cutter replica of most accommodation that lack personality. The breakfast ( included ) was also very good. I would recommend!!!😊😊❤️

Maybe some in room information of were to get food - but we just asked them anyway and the staff were friendly and helpful.
