We thoroughly enjoyed this hotel experience - so much so that it contributed greatly to our overall wonderful impressions of Lyon. Critical to the experience were the warm and helpfulness of the staff, but especially of the owner who greeted us at breakfast and made time to chat with us despite the demands of a busy hotel. Our previous experiences with hotels in France have been mixed, so this was a very pleasant and welcome experience. We are already planning our return to this special gem of a hotel with a real family-feel to it.

Really, nothing went wrong or was unpleasant.

Very centrally located. Easy access to shopping, transportation, restaurants and various sights.

There was nothing that I didn’t particularly like. The property is an older property/historic building but the rooms are functional and modern. The only general gathering area is the reception/ breakfast area; however as mentioned it’s an older building that using the space very functionally.

I had a courtyard room which allowed a lot of light in. The towels were nice and fluffy. Staff were welcoming, helpful and kind. The location surprised me. It’s surrounded by the upscale shopping district! I found a nice, casual, reasonable around the corner, too, for lunch and dinner.

They didn’t provide a face cloth. Luckily, I bring my own since I prefer washing with one. And the room would be small for more than one person or if you plan to remain in the room a lot.

The hotel is classic old French style in a great location. The receptionist, Marjorie, was wonderfully helpful, providing an orientation via maps, recommendations and held with dinner reservations. She also helped download train tickets after an email SNAFU. The owner was also engaging, a world traveler and photographer - we traded tales. Our room was small, but adequate. The AC was very welcome in Lyon in August. The breakfast included was quite sufficient, though not extensive. The location is just across the river from the old city, near the funicular to the hilltop basilica and Roman theaters, and a short walk from the beau arts museum.

We were very happy here in the style of an older era. It is not slick in a modern sense, but it was just what we were looking for.

Excellent location in the centre of the city, 2 min walk from the Place Bellcour and all the attractions of the city centre - parking under the place Bellcour if required - only very busy street parking near the hotel itself. Old building with very narrow staircase (reasonable sized lift is available). Good continental breakfast with the possibility to boil eggs. Very friendly and accommodating staff, modernised rooms with comfortable bed (and pillows!) and modern well-equipped bathroom. Overall very good experience.

The room was small but comfortable and very quiet. There were plenty of convenient plug sockets. Reception staff were very helpful and accommodating. Shower pressure was excellent. The old town and Presqu'ile were within 10 minutes walk, very convenient.

Breakfast was quite expensive for a limited selection of meats, cheeses and pastries. There was the option of a boiled egg if you wanted something hot. There was no view from our room, just a wall outside.

An excellent hotel, with a wonderful Manager, Laurent. Clean, comfortable, a delicious breakfast, incredibly well located, the staff could not have been more helpful. We received wonderful recommendations on local restaurants and they stored our luggage for us when we did a short side trip. Highly recommended.

We would have loved to have stayed longer.

Nice little hotel near to old town and with lots of things to see within walking distance. Grocery stores, shops, cafes, restaurants and bars nearby. On first floor above shops but with small lift (not for the claustrophobic). Room clean and comfortable.

Better explanation about how to find our room would have been helpful! Behind a heavy and unmarked door. Batthroom a little small.

Hôtel des Célestins was exactly as we hoped – clean, comfortable, friendly and full of character. The staff could not have been more helpful or more accommodating and the location was perfect, just a few minutes’ walk from Bellecour Metro station and its easy access to the airport. We had a fantastic view of the nearby Théâtre des Célestins, as well as the famous Basilica of Notre Dame of Fourvière, perched on its hilltop above the city. Breakfast was very good and the coffee excellent.

our room was a standard double room ( they kindly amended to a twin as requested ) room was quite small and a squeeze to get to the window we asked for a room with the view over the streets- just be aware that this can be quite loud with weekend fun - didn't spoil our trip at all
