Friendly and helpful staff, good value for money and close to the Metro, comfortable bed and all necessary facilities. Good restaurant nearby (Brasserie Bellanger)

The area around the Metro and close to the hotel (Barbes-Rochechouart) is a bit rough and some might find it a bit intimidating. Having said that, the hotel is in a side street and fairly quiet.

We stayed here for our final 3 nights in Paris and were delightfully surprised - the hotel photos in the listing perhaps need some updating, as the room we stayed in seemed recently renovated and was extremely comfortable and clean and modern. The wifi was great and the bathroom was excellent. The twin-brother hotel owners were also very helpful in every way, and permitted us to leave luggage without charge after check-out so we could meet commitments in Paris unencumbered, which was much appreciated. Overall, I would stay here again in a heartbeat - highly recommend!

Be aware that the area near the hotel is on the dodgier end of Rue du Faubourg-Poissonniere - Barbe Rochechouart train station is just around the corner, and there are a lot of touts outside - but that's not a reflection on the hotel. The location is convenient in almost every other way, as it's close to Metro and walking distance from Gare du Nord - perfect for connections to the airport.

For the low price paid, the hotel went well beyond my expectations. The room was comfortable, perfectly clean and fresh, everything worked (hair dryer, etc.). Location and hotel is super silent, the neighbourhood could be better, but on the other hand it gives you perfect transportation options (Metro and for Eurostars users it's just perfect with walking distance from Nord). Typical French breakfast for fair price 6,50 euro is also available. Staff was very friendly and the housekeeping was exceptional for a 2-star hotel (better cleaning than in most of my 4-star stays and they even deliver cookies and bottles of water daily). Overall, if this hotel shows like one of the cheapest options in Paris, book!

As other reviews have said, the hotel has seen better days and is quite basic, but for central Paris, maybe 5 minutes walk to Gare du Nord, it's incredibly good value. The room I stayed in could maybe do with some redecorating, but it was very clean and the bathroom looked very new. I had a courtyard room, which was quiet. Street facing might be noisier, but it seems a quiet street. Room still had everything you might want: kettle, tea, coffee, water, biscuits, hairdryer, TV. The staff are lovely.

Maybe some rooms could do with redecorating. Maybe a bit more choice at breakfast, but it was cheaper than a lot of other hotels.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the hotel is very close to the metro and Eurostar station.

It would be perfect if there were refrigerator and free breakfast. Meanwhile, although the location was excellent, the neighourhood wasn't quiet at night. Since the hotel was close to a major street, be prepared to hear occasional noises of truck rumbling or people laughing and talking loudly late at night.

The hotel and staff were very friendly and helpful and went out of there way to help us with directions and anything else we needed in the room.I think this hotel deserves 3 star not a 2 star.

We did not like the area near the hotel was very run down graffiti everywhere and litter all over .The worst was at the train stop up the road .There was at least 20/30 males outside all day and evening .It was quite scary and as females we did not feel safe at all .we felt intimidated and so we did not dare go out on evenings so that put a damper on things .I would say as a solo female traveller be very careful on your own around that station However in the day time we really enjoyed seeing the attractions .

OK location; 6 min walk from Gare du Nord. Street looked ok for the part of Paris; no danger. Room refurbished, clean and newish. WiFi worked well in room. All fine. Did not try the breakfast. All OK, basically, for the price for Paris. I needed to use train H every day, and for Gare du Nord this is a very convenient place.

No problems, but no place to put bags. I am often in Paris, and know rooms in this price range are small. No space between "glass shelf" on sink and the sink itself, so brushing your teeth meant spitting in the shower. Not a big problem :) No major problems.

For a basic hotel this exceeded our expectations. Room was reasonable size (expected smaller), quiet, lift, tea, water, biscuits. Well decorated bathroom, excellent shower. Reception a bit chaotic but exceptionally helpful when I forgot my jacket. Close to metro on line 4, very convenient for Gare du Nord, Gare de l’est and Montparnesse. Liked the area, small restaurants , grocers and bars though station itself a bit scruffy. Easy walking to Gare du nord

Nothing. Area a bit scruffy but interesting

The staff was very helpful and spoke enough English to make communication easy. They were very helpful and understanding when my wife was ill after being too hot for too many days during the heat wave in July 2025. They also were happy to store our luggage for a time after checkout before taking the train out of Paris. The price was also very reasonable even despite the city-wide hotel price increases due to concerts/exhibitions/etc. happening at the time.

The room was a little cramped with no AC and the fan, despite its size, somehow didn't seem to circulate the air very well.

Hotel Altona is about 10 minutes walk from Paris Gare du Nord and 10 minutes walk to Montmartre. It's in the lively area where lots of restaurants and cafes but our room was quiet thanks to the double glazing windows. I stayed the hotel with my friend and the hotel provided one double bed and one additional single bed as we requested. Interior was slightly dated, however, USB power sockets are on the bed headboard. Also bottles of mineral water and tea making facility (kettle, tea bags, coffee, milk, sugar and mini Madara cakes) was provided, which is good for travellers especially from the UK! Hotel has a reception and staff is always there and kindly offers luggage storage for free after check-out till our Eurostar departure time, which was really helpful!

Hotel Interior was slightly dated but it looks part-to-part modernisation is on progress.
