Hotel is DIRECLY across from the train station; we were on the 3rd floor and heard no street noise however (good windows). AND hotel has an elevator. Location made it convenient to go have day excursions to the Insel Mainau, as well as to Sankt Gallen in Switzerland. Splurged on the Breakfast Buffet on our last day -- it was well worth the 20 Euros. Just remember to sign up the evening before to ensure a spot. Room had a hot water kettle with some instant coffee packets and some tea bags, with real coffee cups. STAFF AT THE FRONT DESK WERE AMAZING and extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

It did not occur to me to ask at the front desk for more coffee packets or creamers for our 3-day stay.

Location was excellent especially if arriving by train as it was 2 minutes walk from the station. Check in was efficient and welcoming and our room was a corner room with a lake view which we liked. We hadn't booked breakfast but chose to eat there when we saw the delicious breakfast and the Moroccan style breakfast room. The hotel was a good starting point for an early morning walk along the lovely Lake Konstanz as well walks to the town. We'd stay at the Halm again as its location made us very independent. The nearby road renovations did not impact our stay at all.

Fabulous view of Lake Constance; tremendous value for money; super-comfortable room with spotless, modern bathroom and rain forest shower; amazingly convenient to Konstanz train station barely 30 yards across the street, arrivals and departures effortless yet no noticeable noise from trains and still right in the middle of shops and restaurants, with the lakefront walkway and excursion boat dock just steps away.

Have stayed multiple times, usually arriving in late morning, and room has never been ready until 4:00 pm. Understand that no hotel can guarantee early check-in for everybody (unless customer books previous night), but would think such a beautifully run facility could occasionally accommodate.

Beautiful hotel, luxurious decor in public spaces, welcoming staff. Staff were all efficient, helpful and very professional. They realised that I was arriving on my birthday and gave me a wonderful welcome and, a complete surprise, Sachertorte for two was set up beautifully in our room. The bedroom was really well equipped with lots of storage space, plenty of towels and a very good fridge. The hotel is directly opposite the station and close to all amenities in the town- a perfect location. We have been coming here for years and love it. We will definitely return.

I think the policy of cleaning every 3 days is not entirely hygienic. I know it saves money but this comes at the cost of clean toilets and sinks. Tea and coffee facilities in the room surely wouldn’t break the bank!

The hotel is well located, near to the port where the ferries leave and there are a good selection of shops and restaurants within a short walk. The building is very grand, with good sized rooms - and the breakfast area / restaurant is an impressive Moroccan room. Staff were friendly and responsive.

No parking available at the hotel. And there were road works outside the hotel and in the area while we were there, so it was difficult to get to the parking garage they recommended. (It would have been nice that they mentioned that we might need to take an alternate route during the roadworks.)

Across from train station, shops, restaurants all within easy walking distance. Warm and welcoming atmosphere from walking into the beautifully traditional decor and friendly staff. The welcome drink when you check in. Our double room with lake view was just superb although slightly small it had a comfortable bed, roomy shower, soft fluffy towels, loved having a kettle too! Didn’t try the restaurant or breakfast but looked elaborate. Would definitely recommend.

Fabulous interior which has kept the traditional architecture but been modernised sympathetically. Staff were exceptionally helpful and cheery. Our room was much bigger than we expected and even had balconies! The €20 breakfast was amazing and worth every cent, photo of wonderful restaurant setting. There is a car park immediately to rear of hotel, you can park directly at rear to check in. Car park cost €24 for 24hours.

Although stated it had minibar- this was empty. For the price I would have hoped for kettle and coffee maker- this was not stated in room details though. Others had mentioned noise and disruption of repaving outside, this not hotel’s fault.

The hotel is in a great location for the train station and also the town centre for restaurants and shops etc. I haven't been able to visit the lake yet but it is located a stone's throw from the lake also. The staff at the hotel are super friendly and efficient and I particularly like their policy of paying when you check in which saves valuable time when departing.. also they offer a welcome drink which is a nice touch. The breakfast at the Halm is one of the best I have had and the Bircher Museli is the best ever! The restaurant in the evening is also worth a visit for some superb Morrocan food in a beautiful setting.

Historic hotel in a perfect location - opposite the train station, in the middle of the old town, next to the lake. The staff was very kind and polite. The hotel has a nice "old world" charm, but at the same time it is well kept and nice. We appreciated the luggage room and the beautiful terrace. We will return for sure when we visit Konstanz again.

Our room was quite small - but we expected it since we booked the cheapest option available. Although the marble bathroom looked nice, you could feel it is a little bit dated. And also it could be a little bit cleaner.

The room had an amazing view.

The hotel receptionist approached us shortly after check out time passed and asked us to leave because we “aren’t allowed to eat outside food in the hotel lobby.” There literally were no other guests in the entire lobby area nor any guests checking in. We were asked to leave despite clarifying fact that the hotel still had our luggage and we were leaving on a train across the street from the hotel within 20 minutes. It felt very ridiculous. This made for a weird ending to an otherwise perfect experience at this hotel.
