It is really at the city center so it's surrounded by a lot of restaurant, shopping malls and cafés. The place also had a bar under so it was quite cool. I also like the fact that I had my own private bathroom (though it is a hostel) and had only to go out for the toilet. It was also not noisy (unless you open the window at night lol).

I felt the light to be too dim, especially in the elevator and it was at some point making me feel some type of way. I don't know if it is part of the design but brighter lights would be cool. I also realised once there that there was no soap in the bathroom nor soap to wash hands. There was also no cup to put the toothbrush in. Beside that everything was cool.

Having only paid €39 for a single room in western Europe in 2024 - I didn't think that was possible anymore! Great to have a shower and sink in the bathroom, didn't mind having to use shared toilets. Single bed was alright. Plenty of power outlets. Great desk and sitting area. Heating worked well and window opened to ventilate the room, especially necessary after showering. Short walk from tram and metro stations. Many restaurants nearby.

Not great water pressure and the shower cabin is super small even for me at 5'10" and 160 lbs.

Location was amazing, especially since I was in town primarily to attend a concert nearby. Checking in was a bit confusing since check-in is within the downstairs bar and there was a party going on, but once it was figured out the rest was a breeze. Bed was comfortable and clean, the room and facilities were clean, and all in all it was affordable.

Wifi was unusable, I ended up having to just switch back to cell data.

The staff were clear and attentive and check in was simple even though I arrived quite late (12:30 am). Meanwhile, the bar was lively and welcoming without being too noisy. The bed was also very comfy and I slept well here! 15min walk to the station up along the main high street :)

The only minor downside was the bathroom door and toilet are kind of falling apart opposite the Gentlemen's Dorm, so you have to be careful not to break them!

It's very convenient with a small bar & restaurant downstairs. Great food and beer with good price. Staff here are friendly. They gave me a 2-person female room. You can fulfill your own bottle by the "shampoo bar" at ground floor. Everything here is so good.

It seems like only 1 public shower room per floor. But there's no holders for stuff and neither a shower curtain. That's a little inconvenient.

The atmosphere was quirky and fun. The bunk was comfortable. The shower room and toilet room were both clean and worked well, the showers were always hot. The location was within walking distance of an U Bahn entrance.

The pillow was too flat for me. I wished the bunks had curtains for more privacy and to protect against light.

Everything perfect. Nice hostel in the city center, 15 minutes walk from the central station, owners so helpful and caring, always willing to help. They own a pub on the ground floor as well, very simple and full of cool people. Rooms are daily cleaned, and so bathrooms, halfway and kitchen. You can really meet nice travellers, having nice conversations and a good time together. Ultra recommended, 5 stars. Thank you guys, hopefully see you next year 🤗

Personal, atmosphere and cheap. For prise that you pay, you receive very good service.

Was a bit loud at night, maybe because of lot festivals in that day. I couldn't close a window, because it would be too hot in a room with 6 people. But apart from that, i find sound isolation in room quite good.

Was a very pleasant stay. Good hostel facilities. The pub downstairs was one of the nicest and friendliest in central Essen. The hostel is very quiet during the week

Shower is tiny but at such low rates it can be forgiven

They don’t allow you to do the check in not even one minute before the time. The receptionist didint even let me sit inside despite he saw me and other travelers outside in the cold and light rain
