Very well decorated, a real cosy feel to the whole establishment. Staff were delightful and very social. Food was excellent quality both for breakfast, in the bar and in the restaurant - recommend you try the restaurant. Location is also excellent in the centre of Ennis.

Our only minor criticism was the EV charger parking spot was not marked as an EV only parking spot and so everybody parked there. Only able to charge one night which was not ideal when driving distances the next day to view the sights of Clare. I think being so central a lot of locals use the car park also which is not ideal for guests but this is a minor issue to overall fabulous stay.

Gorgeous decor, the hotel itself is stunning (even though the room is a bit dated). The staff are EXCEPTIONAL - shout out, they were truly brilliant. The place was super clean. Beds were ultra comfy and we looked out onto the beautiful church. Right in the heart of Ennis.

No humidifier in the bathroom no instructions for lights/tv etc and the carpet etc was a bit dated. Staff were phenomenal! Thanks to all of them. The room was a wee bit dated, but very clean - light switches were ultra confusing and no humidifier in the bathroom. The hotel itself was gorgeous, but given the room, slightly overpriced. Would stay again if I could get a deal.

Very helpful staff, very clean, comfortable and excellent location. Everything we asked for, the hotel went out of it's way to help us with. Fantastic walk in shower with knobs outside so you don't get wet waiting for it to warm up. We loved our stay here. Would come back in a heartbeat.

Nothing really. The room decor was a little dated. The suite has only got heating air vents in the little corridor as you go in so it can be hard to warm up the bedroom area. On our last morning we had our our bags in our car and went for a walk but we did not yet check out. We wanted to come back to the room before we left as there was still 2 hours until check out. But when we got back the room had already been turned around. Not a big deal for us, might have been for some.

This is a querky old hotel in a good location. It may not have some of the flash, modern interior design, but it is comfortable, clean and an interesting place to stay. Ennis is a pleasant little town and a good location for exploring the area. They offer a very good breakfast, especially if you manage to get into the main dining room. On the morning when it was busy and we were put in the overflow area, the service was not as good so always head for the main dining room if you can. The adjoining eateries are good but can get very crowded so book a table if you can.

The lift is very small and cosy so you might have to wait if there is a tour group in ahead of you.

It was fab

A senior receptionist told me it was neccessary to physically have my voucher when I rang at approximately 11.38 on Saturday December 7th to tell her I had forgotten it. She was rude and impatient told me ye sell thousands of vouchers so how could I expect her to trace it even though I had the date it was purchased. I returned home again to get it having already driven 25km towards Clare. On my arrival at The Old Ground I was thankfully greeted by such a nice kind receptionist and I asked a general question if I had mislaid my voucher what would be the outcome. No problem she replied we could look it up. Needless to mention I was raging inside me.

The facilities are clean and well maintained. Breakfast was delicious and varied, with something for all. The bathroom and shower were large, modern, and bright. The restaurant was excellent. Overall, highly recommended.

The comforter on the bed was warm enough to keep you warm at -20C in a tent. Consequently, it was much too warm in a fully heated modern hotel! With no other option for a lighter blanket, my wife and I found ourselves on top of the comforter, got cold, under the comforter, got hot, repeat, repeat. This made for a poor night's sleep. This seems to be a trend for most hotels. Sure, these fluffy comforters look great, but they make no sense in a fully heated hotel room. Can someone talk some sense into the interior designers? Form must follow function.

The general ambience, the food, and the helpfulness of staff were excellent. We enjoyed the sitting rooms for conversations with our friends. An especially ince touch was the wood fire with plenty of seasoned hardwood available next to it.

The small spotlight reading lights on our bedstead did not work, and the light from the table lamps next to the beds made reading a bit difficult. One morning I could not get warm water in the shower, although the other three days were fine.

There was a fantastic atmosphere in the hotel, the food was exceptional, breakfast and dinner in the bar. The bed was very comfortable, sraff were very friendly and professional especially the service in the bar. I'd highly recommend a visit to the Old Ground hotel in Ennis. We used it as a base yo visit all the sights, cliffs of Moher, Lahinch, Kilkee was absolutely beautiful, loop head light house, Cooling. Ww will definitely return to this hotel

Everything was great as always. The staff is very kind and professional. Housekeeping is top. Perfectly clean rooms, comfortable beds. Breakfast is fabulous, all choices are delicious. Hotel restaurants are among the best in Ennis. Hotel is right at the town center, best choice for a nice stay. I have been guest at the hotel many times, since more than 10 years, it never disappointed. With its old and authentic look, the nice sitting areas at the lobby, make one feel like home.

Nothing not to like

The hotel was a hive of activity but the staff were efficient, courteous and on top of everything. We arrived early and understandably our rooms were not ready. We had anticipacited this and had lunch booked in The Poets Corner, The food and service as excellant and our server was a so lovely. The rooms are spacious, so clean, comfortable and every convenience you need for your stay is available. Breakfast was wonderful and our server Pascal was a joy.
