Swinford was somewhat of an afterthought for us -- a quick stop so we could visit a friend -- but The Gateway, as well as the Swinford location, ended up being a very pleasant surprise. This is a small hotel but it has an elevator which is a HUGE bonus for travelers tired of lugging bags up and down stairs in smaller Ireland inns. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. The manager was very responsive and helpful in getting us an iron and ironing board to prepare dress clothes for our night out. Even though hotel parking is on the street, we had no trouble getting a spot. Swinford itself is a nice central location for exploring nearby towns. Breakfast was included the next morning and was decent.
This is being picky and is very specific to a certain client -- but I vape and it would be nice to have a space out back of the hotel where one could step out to smoke or vape (vs. standing on the busy street in front). This may not be possible given the location but thought I'd toss the idea out there. Otherwise, there isn't anything we didn't like about The Gateway.

After a warm welcome at reception, we settled down to an excellent evening meal which we had requested and confirmed , by asking on the booking-dot-com messaging box. The car was parked right outside the Hotel and the chef went the extra mile by coming in early so that we could breakfast before catching an early flight from Knock. The room was large and comfortable, with plug sockets either side of the bed for charging phones, and a desk big enough for emails and facebook posts.. the night before.

Beautiful hotel. Very comfortable and super cleanq. Staff were all young but very professional and obliging. We only stayed 1 night but the room was really lovely. We had breakfast next morning and it was very tasty, one of the better breakfasts I've had in recent times.
The TV didn't work and when I asked what the problem was, the receptionist did say it had been reported but they were waiting for the repair person to come. I also felt that it was a tad expensive.

My wife and I had a lovely stay. It is a lovely quiet small town with really friendly locals. We were able to park on the street right outside the Hotel - it couldn't have been any handier. We ate in the hotel and the food was lovely and very reasonable. Breakfast was nice too - it would have been 'really nice' only I forgot to ask for the hollandaise sauce on the side - I don't like too much sauce but this was on me. Lovely coffee and a great speedy service.

Bedrooms lovely and warm, comfy bed. Lovely friendly staff. Great breakfast.
Main part of hotel a little chilly but it is an old building, rooms were warm so that was good. Had a BLT for lunch would have been nice if there was some bacon in it. Had roast for dinner was beautiful (apart from pesto on my plate, I don't personally believe pesto goes with a roast dinner but that's just me). Beds could be at a minimum king size but the standard double was very comfortable.

Staff were exceptional in all areas, probably this hotels best asset. Parking around the back was secure and convenient (especially handy for Motorcyclists). Food was reasonably priced and well presented. The bar/food area was always busy, a good sign.
Fair bit of noise from the road (front rooms) but this was really due to the hot weather and the need to leave the windows open.

The food was outstanding, breakfast was lovely on both mornings, we booked in for dinner on second night and the steak dinners were 1 of the best meals weve ever had, we also had a flat battery when trying to go out for the day and ross came and saved the day and went out of his way for us so cant thank him enough, would 100% recomend and stay here again.
Only 1 issue was a little noise there were a lot of teenagers running around the corridoors but as soon as we told staff it was sorted, also 1 intoxicated guest was locked out at 2am and decided to kick the front door very loudly until the whole hotel was awake but thats no reflection on the hotel

Mick and John were excellent hosts and ensured that my daughter and I enjoyed a wonderful stop-over on our long journey to Galway. The rooms were clean and functional and the showers were hot and powerful. Breakfast was spot-on - a large range to choose from and something for everyone. Really enjoyed our short stay and very impressed with our introduction to Irish hotels!
I didn't understand why one room cost X and the same room right next to it cost X+£50, but we signed-up to it so it's not a criticism (just a query). When I asked in the morning, the young man who checked us out didn't know why there had been a difference.

Nice hotel right on the main street. Room had all of the basic requirements. Beds were comfortable and breakfast was nice. Bar staff were very accomodating when we were looking for a late drink at the end of the night.
The room was a little dated and had the smallest tv I've ever seen lol. We didn't need to use it but if you had small kids they would be disappointed with it. I would urge the staff to put proper mats in the bath tub as I nearly fell several times when having a shower.

Hotel was fine and the staff were very friendly - only stayed for one night and was not in the hotel itself much so can't comment on the night life / bar. The room was clean and tidy and the beds were comfortable - there was a slight smell along the corridor when we 1st arrived but then that went away and the shower kept losing its power whilst I was using it. Apart from that everything else was fine - the bar food and the breakfast were both very good - would stay again as this is a nice homely friendly hotel.
