We had a wonderful experience staying at this hotel. Pros: • The location is perfect—right in the center of Como, close to everything. • Our room had a lovely view of the lake, which made our mornings extra special. • The hotel was very clean and well-maintained. • Staff were friendly, helpful, and made us feel welcome.

Cons: • Parking was a bit of a challenge. It’s located in other hotel, and we weren’t informed about it in advance. • We were also unaware that we could stop briefly in front of the hotel to check in and drop off our large luggage before parking elsewhere. It would’ve been helpful to have this information beforehand. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel—just be sure to ask about parking arrangements before you arrive.

Hotel Barchetta is all about location, location, location. We travelled by train from Milan to the station of Como San Giovanni and walked down to the hotel which took about 15 minutes with cases. (Best to take a taxi for the return leg). The central location provided an ideal base from which to explore Como, the lake and take in a day visit to Lugano in Switzerland. Views from lake fronting bedrooms are simply stunning, city facing views are not as attractive. The breakfast menu was the same each day and offered a choice of something cooked (typically scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon) against the continental alternative of meat / cheese / bread / pastries, plus loads of fresh fruit. Excellent.

Our stay was at the height of the summer season, but it is still reasonable to say the hotel was not cheap given facilities are limited to a bedroom (shower over the bath), dining room and a rather dingy bar/restaurant cum reception area. It is also possible to eat on a terrace fronting the hotel entrance which is close to passing traffic and walkers. All of the above needs to be balanced against the key feature of the hotel which is ‘location’.

Excellent breakfast. Great variety. Very friendly staff. Matteo at the front desk was very helpful and spoke English. He went the extra mile by helping make our 25th anniversary extra special.

We had a last minute change and we were trying to decide if we stayed an extra night here or near the airport. Although you ere going to have a vacancy your price was not low enough so we went down the street and rented a nice apartment for less than half the price. The staff could have worked with us to get us to stay even if it was in a different room.

Everything! Fantastic location- facing the lake,opposite where you can get the ferry and right beside all the shops and restaurants- there's even a McDonalds next door. Pay extra for the lake view - it's well worth it!! Room is very clean,comfortable and staff are lovely especially Vima who was so helpful and nice to us when we were checking in.

Nothing.😊- a little expensive but was worth it for convenience and the view.

The Barchetta Excelsior is in the ideal location in Como. Directly across the street from the lake and ticket offices for excursions. Restaurants and shopping right around the corner. The hotel staff could not have been nicer. The restaurant recommendations were amazing. The rooms are large, comfortable, clean and quiet. The breakfast buffet is amazing and the staff was very accommodating each morning. Great stay!!

Parking was a major challenge. It sounds easy, but it is a bit complicated. You are dealing with another hotel/property.

The bathtowel wasn't clean which was disgusting Slightly noisy due to the bus route directly in from of the hotel

Great location in the centre of Como city with lake views from our balcony. The room was roomy and comfortable. Breakfast was included and was comprehensive, but the same each day. A bar and restaurant within the hotel provided some easy options close to home at night.

While the breakfast was comprehensive, it was the same every day with scrambled eggs the only option. Sadly the eggs were cold 3 days out of 5. Our bathroom was dated, with a shower over the bath, with no safety handles or bars for people of our age. The Taos for the bath were on the side wall where you stood under the shower (very awkward).

We booked this hotel due to its location by the water. Perfect view and location which is near everything! Pretty big rooms too! Knowing it’s a well-established hotel, we knew it wasn’t new. It’s a bit on the dated side but nonetheless less the bathroom is new which is so important for us. Good deal with breakfast included. It’s a great choice for Como.

Location is great, right up against the lake, with superb views, although sadly road construction made it a little noisy and dusty. But can’t be helped. Breakfast was decent, standard continental, good selection, including gluten and dairy free options. Bar was good enough, decent atmosphere, friendly staff, usual array of drinks of offer, a decent whisky selection, large array of single malt scotch (laga 8, laphroaig 10 CS, etc) along with usual array of spirits, wine, beer and some classic Italian cocktails. Restaurant was decent also, some stuff is frozen and re-heated/finished rather than coming from fresh. But some items are fresh. Again, friendly service, a little expensive for what it is. But it’s Como. Most places are about 15% or more above market average, so not terribly surprising considering the location. But atmosphere and service makes it worth it, if feeling lost for a place to eat one evening. Bed is a little firm for our liking, and the air-con in our room didn’t seem to be that effective. But the hotel is excellent and good value given what you get. Staff are also amazing and very helpful. Reception staff are very helpful and always happy to answer any questions. We got a good rundown of local attractions and points of interest, including a decent place or two to eat. Boat times etc. Room was very clean, friendly and efficient turndown service. Cleaned every day. Fresh water bottles, towels, toiletries, toilet paper etc.

As stated above, the road works being carried out at the time of our visit made things a little noisy, and the dust made it unpleasant to leave the window/balcony door open at night. This wouldn’t have been much of an issue had our air-con been a little more effective. As our room got quite warm and stuffy at night. So, Road works not normally an issue, but if you’re not able/comfortable sleeping with the balcony door open, it might be hot/stuffy. The bed is also a little firm/hard for our preference, so not an issue for some, isn’t comfortable for us, so keep in mind when booking. As can affect sleep for some.
