Location and staff were awesome. Especially Sammy who helped with pretty much everything from carrying our very heavy bags through the hot streets of Matera or translating our every request. The taxi driver picked us up from random locations as requested and helped us with picking finding post offices to try and send luggage - he was also such a lovely personality. Please treat them well!!

The spa devices should be included to give it an extra edge. Including it in the name doesn’t make sense if you are just charging extra.

The room was spacious and comfortable. It was a real feast for the eyes. We have not stayed in a nicer hotel. Everything is thought out down to the last detail, authenticity intertwines with comfortable modernity. You can even see fossils in the ceiling and walls! Very comfortable bed, amazing shower and spa bath. The front desk is staffed by wonderful and helpful people. They can order you dinner at a selected restaurant, excursions, etc. We were particularly impressed by the breakfast buffet lady. Her warmth and smile made the all days special. Thank you very much! Shower facilities could be replenished more often (we stayed 4 nights). Could also be a couple of simple wine glasses (we only found two plastic ones, which were later thrown away by the maid). It doesn't matter if you choose the hotel for one or several nights, it will definitely not disappoint you. Both a great location and an exclusive interior and warm staff.

The experience in Matera was as expected. The rooms were very spacious and the bed was clean and comfortable. I don't usually spent much time in the rooms, but since I travel for photography (and to acquire life experiences) I always aim to get a room with a desk so I can work a few photos at night. This was not possible in Matera. I did not get the exact room I saw in the photo when I booked, but the one I got was fine for the amount of time I was in it.

the configuration in the bathroom (very little room to have your own toiletries) but it has the right water pressure so it compensates.

Although our stay was only one night, we couldn’t have been happier with our experience at the Cenobio. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. From booking us reservations at restaurants to organizing parking for us, the staff made everything extremely stress free! Ask for Betty or Mario! The location couldn’t be better in terms of sight seeing, shopping, restaurants and bars. We will definitely be back and for a longer stay next time!

From our one night experience, I can’t think of anything that could have made it better. We found the room was a little warm for sleeping but that is a very small issue that didn’t truly effect our stay.

The staff was so kind. The rooms were beautiful. We arranged an airport shuttle through the hotel. The driver stopped at many viewpoints in Matera before bringing us to the hotel. He and his colleague were so excited to share the history with us. There were a lot of steps to get to the hotel and they carried our bags for us. They definitely made it easy! Great hotel.

The room got a little too warm in the middle of the night. But everything else - fantastic!

Our room was very spacious and the terrace was wonderful. Location was great, in the heart of the historic center. Staff at the reception, Ivana, Betty and Leonardo were so, so, nice and helpful with information and all we needed. Mario was an unforgetable help with our 2 suitcases! Location was great, in the heart of the historic center. Which is great as location but implies there are a LOT of stair steps to get to the hotel and the room itself. People with mobility difficulties could find it uncomfortable. And please travel light to this hotel because luggage has to be carried by hand, from the car transfer, (which stops in the duomo plaza, still a few minutes from the hotel)), to the hotel, because of the stairs. Mario, of the hotel staff, who drove the transfer from the parking lot to the nearest spot where cars could go,Plaza Duomo, was a great, great help with our 2 bags, because we were traveling for 10 days in Italy and they were rather heavy.

Great location in the middle of the Sassi! Very comfortable, friendly and accommodating stuff, Mario our porter/transfer gentleman went out of his way to help us! Very much appreciated! The hotel is hard to find and there are a lot of stairs to climb in order to get to it, consider getting a transfer from the parking to help you with your luggage well worth the €15. Our room #6 had a lovely shared terrace with a great view of the caves and the river, sunsets were magical!

Absolutely need to change the TP, (toilet paper) if anything this could have been our deal breaker! Individual sheets??? we didn’t understand the reason behind, but the sheets quality was terrible! Please reconsider!!!

Location and view of Sassi was perfect. The staff were all exceptionally friendly, willing to help with anything we needed, the beds and pillows were extremely comfortable and promoted great sleep, towels were plentiful, the shower was a full size, they provided cold bottled water, the breakfast was fresh and tasty...I just cannot say enough about this hotel!

Reception was kind and welcoming. Mario the driver was a big help with driving and our luggage. Sara was a fabulous guide. We loved her. Hotel was beautiful and clean. Would have enjoyed cut up fresh fruit for breakfast. We loved our stay in Matera and Cenobio felt safe and homey. When you travel so far to Italy, it is a wonderful experience to stay at Cenobio because theh welcome you like family. Thank you for taking such good care of us!

Not a big deal but the stairs were a bit hard to get there each time.
