This property is BEAUTIFUL! The cave is an authentic property that gives you an insight into what the city of Matera is made out of. The finishes and details of the property made it an incredible place to stay! Domenica’s full knowledge of Matera is incredible! She gave us suggestions for everything: from restaurants, shops, to museums and galleries. Easily this place is 10 out of 10. I can’t wait to come back! ( Also: they made transportation SO PAINLESS AND EASY for us). I cannot recommend this place enough. You must come to find out yourself! You won’t regret it!

From the moment we booked Domenica was so lovely, attentive and responsive to all our needs. She was very communicative regarding check in information and went above and beyond to organise for pick up and drop off for us. Thank you so much to Walter the owner for picking us up and dropping us off to our driver, this was greatly appreciated as we had been travelling for weeks now and had large suitcases with us. Everything was perfect, the service, the room, breakfast facilities and recommendations of where to go in Matera. The property is easy to get to by foot without walking up stairs etc. Thank you again Domenica. We will definitely visit again Love from Sydney, Australia!

You cannot ask for a better host than Domenica! Communicative, responsive and go up and beyond. You feel taken care of way before your arrival and long after your departure. For those of you feeling lost in the cities and needing a guide, she is there for you as well. Room was spotless clean. Complimentary coffee, tee, water and breakfast were provided. Price to quality ratio is excellent with that kind of standard and location. Room decor was as advertised. Not often we rate places as perfect but this one definietely earn that and we recommend it!

From before I got to our location, Domenica was amazing! She sent me a message via whatsapp and communicated through there before we arrived. Once we arrived, our driver had dropped us right out front of a restaurant and maybe a 1-2 min walk to Il Casale di Maria (to get our luggage up to Il Casale di Maria was very easy) Once we arrived she was so kind and gave us a little tour of our stay and gave us a map with her recommendations and places to site see. We also had family staying in the room right next to us and some others stayed in a airbnb down the street so this was nice because it was easy to maneuver and find our way not only to see our other family members but to site see and eat all the phenomenal food. I would recommend this place again in a heart beat, not only was the room nice but Domenica was just the most loveliest person I think I've ever met and she really made our stay that much better!

I didn't like that we didn't stay for a longer time. I have 0 complaints and would 100% recommend to anyone that is going to Matera.

Staying at Casale di Maria was a truly memorable experience. The unique setting of the cave accommodation added something special that you don’t find in typical lodgings. What really stood out was the enthusiasm of the staff – their energy made us feel genuinely welcome and added a warm, personal touch to the entire stay. They were not only friendly but also incredibly helpful, offering excellent suggestions that made our visit even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something different with top-notch hospitality.

Completely extraordinary experience to be accommodated in a cave with such an interesting history. Pleasant and quiet place with modern equipment and absolute comfort for relaxation. Domenica was very kind and attentive from the very beginning. She already helped us with the arrival and navigation to the accommodation. Her energy was incredible, we were very interested in her talk about Matera and the most interesting places of the city. Great experience!! 😎🫶🏻

What a room in an old sassi. Perfect. Extremely clean, beautiful, large bed and great bathroom, one of my best staying in Bella Italia. And I was lucky enough to see Il Giro d'italia. Central, closed to every important place in Matera. Many restaurants in close range. I hope I'll come back in the future. Happy to organize us a taxi to our next destination booked restaurants anything you need she will help you. Fabulous location gorgeous cave experience you will experience many steps in Matera but what a beautiful place to visit

We had the room with the window above the door a blind would be nice to block the light when others come back late in the evening

Everything was perfect during our stay. The cave room was cozy and very clean with comfortable bed. Wifi worked properly during our stay. The host (Domenica) was excellent (10+), always available with great attitude to help and explain everything with passion and smile. The location of the apartments is perfect for sightseeing.

Nothing, only the note that the breakfast is not real breakfast, it is just a croissant.

It was very characteristic, and the location is just perfect. Also the room was as clean as it gets, while also having so nice amenities as coffee, water, etc. Moreover the host Domenica was incredibly welcoming and helpful both prior to the our stay and also while being there. She gave us tips on where to park, what to see, and also booked us a trip around town.
