Location was excellent, facing the river and quiet when the windows were shut due to the air conditioning. The staff were very helpful and we enjoyed sitting on the roof garden with a cocktail in the evening. These were cheap in comparison to UK. around 7.5 euros. The furniture is old and very beautiful. We were in easy walking distance of the Tower, etc. and the side streets were great to wander in. We took a train to the Pisa Marina, trains are cheap, and had lunch down there and a train to Lucca on another day. There are buses to the station.
I think they need a better sitting room for visitors with a few more comfortable chairs and sofas and perhaps a proper bar. The drinks had to be ordered at Reception and brought up to the Terrace.

Love the fact that this is the oldest hotel in Pisa and it was still as clean and well maintained. We loved the location very central and on River Arno. Breakfast was good and enough to eat. Plenty for gluten free too. The Staff were all lovely and full of smiles. Nothing was a problem and it was not a problem if you did not speak Italian and they spoke really good English. We were there for 3 nights and our towels were changed regularly and also cleaning was done every day. I could not fault this hotel. To say I have stayed in the oldest hotel in Pisa is a pleasure to do so. I would come back
Noise of road but bring your earplugs and you will be fine.

This hotel was far better than we expected - perfect location, lovely period fittings, exceptional staff. Nice breakfast. You could walk here from the railway station / Pisa Mover if you want to save money & you're able to pull your cases along. Close to the main shopping street as well as Pisa's attractions.
We had 2 rooms for our family of 4. One of our rooms had slightly tired decor/bathroom, but then it's a historic building. The 2nd room we had was fresher so looks like renovations were underway. Little bit noisy outside on the weekend evening, but the convenient location outweights this. Request a room at the back if this bothers you (sacrifice a river view for a quieter room)

Beautifully designed belle epoque rooms, marble floors, and wonderful location. Somewhat past its prime, but that's part of the charm. The price was also superb for two - worked out, with breakfast included, to be slightly more than a youth hostel. A magical place to stay a few nights in the centre of Pisa.
The toilets were a little too authentic! The hotel has also conspired to fill itself with ye olde bric a brac (retro phones, broken pianos, bicycles, cash registers and such); sells branded water bottles and tote bags; and has a miniature museum exhibit of itself. Pretty tacky, a sharp contrast from the tastefulness of the unreconstructed interior decor.

Beautiful historic hotel with loads of character. Staying there feels like being transported back in time. Location is great. On the river and within walking distance of all major sights in the city (Leaning Tower about 10-15 minutes walk). Good value for money. Big rooms, decent breakfast. Lovely roof terrace full of plants and with drinks service. You will find mixed reviews of this place - some people love it, some hate it due to its age - but as long as you know what you're booking and you don't expect everything to be brand new and shiny like a boring chain hotel then go for it! It's the oldest hotel in Europe so of course it will have a few cracks here and there but we found it part of the charm.

An absolutely wonderful hotel – elegant, stylish, and truly unforgettable! The rooms are huge, bright, and airy with impressively high ceilings. From our window, we had the most stunning view of the river. The location is perfect – right in the very center, just a short street away from the tower. Everything is within walking distance: restaurants, shops, and beautiful viewpoints. The beds are incredibly comfortable, with fresh, fragrant bed linen. The bathroom was well stocked with plenty of towels, as well as shower gels and shampoos. Breakfast was delicious, served at convenient hours between 7 and 10. The staff was extremely kind and welcoming. We even managed to check in a little earlier than expected, and our room was already prepared for us. I can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel – 100% worth staying at!

Amazing style preserved across the years. Halls and common rooms had museum-quality decor, that really gave an immersive experience during the stay. Lovely terrace at the top with cocktail service available both on in-hotel phone as well as WhatsApp. Friendly and super helpful staff! Car parking was also safe and convenient especially given the central location. The view overlooking the river was great with no impact on the overall noise of the room.
The bed quality was almost a deal breaker. The metal frames hidden behind the vintage wooden façade were making more noise than 2 skeletons dancing on a tin roof! Otherwise, a mini fridge and a safe should be considered basic equipment. Breakfast experience was a bit chaotic with a number of tables being littered with dirty plates from other patrons.

It wasn’t my first time at the Royal Victoria Hotel. I already knew what a special place it was. The location is wonderful. This ancient hotel has a unique atmosphere. Every piece of art has its own story. Anyone who would like to experience a journey through time and loves this kind of ambiance should not miss this hidden gem.
What I just described is also, in a way, the downside. Those looking for the comforts of the 21st century should book elsewhere—this hotel is not about that. A word of advice: rooms facing the river can be disturbingly noisy due to young people partying along the Arno. The rooms at the back, facing the city, might be quieter (though this is not certain, just likely).

We had a fantastic stay at the Royal Victoria Hotel! The location is perfect—just a short walk through charming little streets to the heart of Pisa. The hotel’s historic charm and beautiful views made it feel really special. The staff were super friendly and helpful throughout our stay. A highlight was the cooking class with Claudio and Lorenzo—such a fun experience making fresh pasta and enjoying a delicious dinner we prepared ourselves! Highly recommended!
We can’t fault the hotel! We just drove around in circles for a bit while looking for the parking but the hotel staff were able to direct and accommodate us!

This is a very exceptional hotel but if you stay here, make sure you don’t accept any room on the eastern wall overlooking the side lane as you will definitely be awaken at 5:00am every day when they power wash the laneway. The lane is also a meeting point for local hoods and 2:00am-4:00am fighting and smashing glass bottles is a regular event…. The hotel and staff are great. The rooms are clean and breakfast is also good… The common areas are filled with antiques and the hotel has a great feel about it… Just a huge shame about the room, located on the eastern side which meant we could never have a good night sleep….
