The general appearance (i.e. kerbside appeal) of the hotel was good. All staff were approachable, friendly and helpful. The place was clean & bright. The rooms were well kept, and sufficient size. There was a particular member of the breakfast room staff (Sophie) who was friendly, engaging and informative each morning at breakfast. And the reception desk member (very early [0430hrs]on Friday morning 22/8 when were were waiting for our taxi to the airport) ensured we had a coffee before the taxi arrived and kept an eye out for us. The city centre itself had an array of attractions to visit. City Hall, Sightseeing Belfast, The Titanic Quarter, the Shopping Centre to name a few and a great choice of places to eat AND drink.

There was a constant hum (of a roof mounted air conditioning pump outside our window) which was a little irritating during the early evening. However, it did stop overnight so it did not disturb sleep. While not a particular dislike, the location was a little walk from the city centre. The weather during our day was fine so the walk into town each day was pleasant and very achievable. Great for stacking up those recorded steps on our fit watches! Even the walk to (and from) the Titanic Experience, albeit about 40 minutes each way was OK.

We had a late check in, but informed the hotel and they replied, and were great about it. The room was clean and tidy, and had all the essentials. The beds are some of the comfiest of any hotel I've stayed in. The only issue I had was that the water in the shower ran cold for the first 5 minutes before it finally got warm..but I appreciate that at 7.30am there are multiple rooms using the showers it wasn't a massive issue. Breakfast was fantastic as always. We are vegan and always have choices and have been told more options are available if requested. The coffee from the machines are top notch too. Always enjoy this hotel for special nights in the city.

The location was good. Walking a few blocks you can get to the local university and pick up a hop on hop off bus tour. The hotel itself is dated. The room we had was two twin beds. No a/c but a fan and operable window. We let staff know about a broken lamp switch and loud squeeky bathroom door. The hotel breakfast was very good but the food choices for later in the day were limited. All in all the room was clean and comfortable. Should you choose to stay here check out Molly's Yard restaurant. A lovely place with delicious creative food.

Poor food options beyond breakfast

The breakfast was excellent, the hotel was well planned and laid out, some of the staff (Conan) stood out as being friendly and professional, with recommendations for activities and restaurants around Belfast. The gym was a welcome addition and was also always clean, the early check-in provided by signing up to their loyalty scheme was massively helpful, and the luggage storage on the day we checked out was invaluable. The room itself was spacious and had adequate facilities for the price we paid, it was also a quiet hotel despite having a lot of rooms occupied.

There were parts of the room that you could tell hadn't been cleaned for a while (under beds, under chairs), and some of the staff had a poor attitude when you spoke with them, but they always fulfilled every request and answered every question, so complaints were minimal.

The hotel is in a good location for lots of local attractions and good restaurants and shops for snacks and drinks. Conan was particularly helpful with his local knowledge and tips for sightseeing and places of interest. The breakfast was good and tables were quickly cleaned when it was busy. The beds were comfortable and towels were changed nearly every day. Good value for money

I wish hotels would spend a little more on soundproofing. The screaming child from 5am in a nearby room was extremely annoying, guests slamming doors and pretty much shouting down the corridors also disrupted sleep esp on the two mornings we didn’t have an early start.

Excellent service. Staff are really good here, especially the ones who were there in the night shifts at the bar on 15th April evening and the one on 16th April morning at 3 AM. They both ensured that we had the pleasant experience of Belfast. New places for family kids were suggested, food was served with a smile. This morning staff ensured that we got out of the parking lot fine. Overall, excellent service in spite of the hotel being part of a big chain of hotels. We would like to visit Belfast and the hotel would definitely be this Holiday Inn Express, for their hospitality.

Good location for university meetings, good breakfast,helpful staff.

The hotel has a deal with a very unreliable taxi firm. The staff know this but are prevented from calling better firms. Our taxi was half an hour late and we were late checking in for our flight. Several other guests were also kept waiting for cabs that morning and the tension in the hotel foyer spoiled our visit. This is a decision outside the control of the hotel staff which needs to be addressed at a higher level. I would advise guests to make their own arrangements and not rely on the hotel to book taxis

Our room was ready before 3 pm. Therefore, we were able to check in early. Our room was very clean and comfortable, the beds were a bit soft for me but that is my personal preference. The staff were very friendly and helpful, plenty of seating around the reception to just chill, or have a drink from the bar. The breakfast, which was included in the price , was great and had a wide selection of hot/cold options. The communal areas were kept clean and tidy, and the hotel was quiet overnight. Overall this hotel met all our requirements.

My only dislike was the surrounding area. Which l had read about in a previous review, so I was not surprised.

Lean and comfortable. Big bonus was the secure car parking at no extra charge. Whilst parking on the street is free, there was a graduation ceremony at the local University so would have been impossible if not for the hotel car park.

Our room overlooked the outdoor smoking area. As it was really hot, we had the windows open but had to close them as people were down there smoking and talking all night long! It was too noisy to sleep. Not in the city centre itself so had to walk 15 minutes or get the bus. But it was worth it to get the on-site parking

Self service breakfast included in the price. Good selection of cereal, fresh fruit and juices, toast, pastries, yogurt, hot food. Comfortable bed, two good pillows. Good sized tv with enough channels. TV in reception showed some of the football. There was an all day menu and reasonable bar prices. Location was fine for us, about 15 minute walk into city centre. There were buses on the main street but it was easy enough to walk. Nice, pleasant staff at reception.

No milk or tea in the room for two out of our three days, had to get some at reception. No fried eggs at breakfast. Those clothes hangers you have to fight with.
