the hotel is well designed, the inner court next to the reception counter make the place feel very spacious. the natural light play well within this space, it is so unexpected compared to the traditional kyoto row house look from the outside. the breakfast is excellent, both set meal and the buffet especially the steamed marinated chicken breast, so tender and flavorful without loosing the chicken taste itself. we stayed in deluxe twin room, the size is quite spacious and well lay outed. very comfortable bed and pillows. location is excellent. quiet area yet very close to bustling area like nishiki market etc. a lot of very good restaurants around the area. just few minutes walk from karasuma station which connects directly to osaka umeda and kyoto station. you can reach arashiyama and katsura by hankyu line for just a few minutes. nijo castle is within walking distance with nice vibe along the way. higashiyama and gion area is within walking range also. kenninji temple is highly recommended. with this long review, i must really love this hotel😄

there was a little bit of sound coming to our room from the street. just for fyi, not a big deal since the area is so quiet at night.

This hotel is amazing. The staff are so kind and attentive. The room was so beautiful and cozy. The pictures don’t do the rooms justice. Everything was so clean. The breakfast in the hotel was really good. The onsen was great. I went there late at night and had the whole place to myself and it was so relaxing. I also really liked that you get some vouchers from the staff when you arrive to purchase a little gift from their shop next door. I got a very beautiful purse from there. The location is perfect. It’s close to everything you need and on a very beautiful street with bars and restaurants. Highly recommend staying here.

There was nothing I didn’t like about here.

I traveled with my mother for a ten night stay at the Mitsui Garden Shinmachi Bettei. Our room was perfect with two beds and a small sofa sitting area. The bathroom layout was well designed as well such that one person could be in the shower or toilet with doors for privacy. The hotel staff was excellent in both Japanese and English. We enjoyed eating twice in the hotel restaurant for dinner ( in addition to the daily breakfast ) and would like to give a shout out to one employee in particular named Yamamoto Shunsuke, who went above and beyond in his professional service and warm affect! The location was quiet, safe and very convenient as well. Overall we had a wonderful time and are most appreciative to the entire staff who helped us with taxis, bus reservations to Kansai Airport, laundry, and other sightseeing questions. We would highly recommend!!!

What would have been helpful would be a small stool in the sitting area to be able to use the 'desk' under the TV.

I've been travelling in many country since two decades but this was my first experience to japan and it got the higherground from all the others because of the extremeley beautifull ans subtle melting of the humility, modesty with sense of service that i would have had the feeling to have been personnaly awarded during all my stay in Mitsui garden hotel shimani. This was a non fault service from the beginning to the last Day. This hostel is really well equiped and located. A special mention to the privative onsen for the customers. Just magnific. Really thanks to all the staff to have been the real simple ambassador of this so magnific country i won't never forgot and that i wish to visit more as soon as it Will be possible. Sincerely yours. Just an improprement of the hostel food service. Not even it's almost already really good, there is such à competition with the other terrific restaurant closed to the hostel that this part is to be a little improved in order to get definitively perfect. Whatever i can be objective as i'm french and as it might not be an aim subject for all the people. But It' s already really really good.

EVERYTHING. The staff were by far the most professional and welcoming I have ever witnessed. The entire hotel is amazing. The venue, the entrance, the room, etc. I truly loved this hotel more than all the hotels I stay in Japan. It was my favorite, and I highly recommend it. I can't comment on the public bath as I had too many tattoos, but I saw plenty of people use it and liked it.

Laundry was the biggest weak point of this hotel. Only two machines available for the whole hotel. However, the staff is on it. If someone left their clothes and haven't come pick them up (they have locks, so you can't just take them out); the staff will take it out so another guest can use it, and they leave a note on the machine for the guest stating that the clothes are in the front desk.

The Mitsui Garden Hotel was truly excellent. The staff were absolutely wonderful and went out of their way to be kind and helpful. The location was perfect and in an area of Kyoto with a rich and wonderful history shared by the hotel itself. We arrived during the festival Gion Matsuri which made the hotels location perfect for that unique experience. Close to great restaurants and shopping. The Nishiki Market was a short walk away where you can find great food and lots of shopping options. I absolutely recommend the Mitsui Garden Hotel and I personally will be returning to the Mitsui the next time My family and I visit Kyoto.

The property was clean, the staff were kind and answered the numerous questions I had prior to the visit. They were also very helpful when my friends and I needed something. A special thank you to Sato-san who helped check us in and coincidentally also helped us check out as well as fill out forms to send our luggage to our future destination of Tokyo! Aside from that, I really enjoyed their breakfast and they also gave out tickets to exchange in their gift shop which was nice. Their public bath also helped me feel well rested after walking the whole day! Highly recommended.

Every person I encountered here on staff was very warm and friendly - the front desk staff in particular were just terrific. The public bath amenity is fabulous - my timing was immaculate on several occasions I had the whole space to myself, which was just heavenly. The "onsen" bath was not spring fed, but was carbonated which was a unique and very pleasant experience. So lovely when your feet are killing you from exploring this GORGEOUS city all day long! Great water pressure throughout the building, so whether I bathed in the bath area or in my own room, it was an invigorating experience. The aesthetic of the hotel is very elegant, the room was pretty well appointed with a kettle, tea & coffee, and mineral water in aluminum bottles was provided daily. The location in Kyoto was terrific - not SUPER close to Kyoto station, but the proximity to major transit was reasonable and I VASTLY preferred the neighborhood to those closer to the big station. Lovely historic feel to the whole area. Walkable to Gion, Kiyomizu-dera, and so many other beautiful cultural treasures. Great little restaurants, boutiques, cafes - just a lovely neighborhood that seemed to be as popular with local residents as visitors. I would LOVE to stay here again, I felt it was a great value for the rate I paid. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the hotel restaurant - exceptional breakfast especially if you enjoy Japanese traditional cuisine - you are offered the choice of four primary items, then you supplement from an ample buffet of really delicious choices that included salads, tempura, chawanmushi, desserts, and so much more. Definitely something for anyone, even if they don't love fish for breakfast as much as I do. LOL Very worth the price.

The bed could have been more comfortable, but very firm beds and pillows seem to be the norm in Japan. I didn't understand why they didn't replenish the coffee packets in the room when they replenished the water bottles - but again, whatever - minor inconvenience that gave me a reason to stop by the lovely front desk staff.

The hotel is exceptional and frankly exceeded our expectations. Its minimalist architecture centered on an inner garden is a real highlight. We had a fantastic stay. Everything was perfect, including the public baths and the breakfast. We stayed in a superior room. The location was good, only a few streets away from central metro and bus stations. The room overlooked a quiet street

Really minor things: the hotel could offer a private onsen for couples or hours when they can use the public bath together. The breakfast was amazing, but got a bit repetitive after a few days. I would offer the option to have smaller portions and maybe a few main dishes to choose from, in addition to the buffet

This hotel exceeded my expectations. It is extremely pretty and eco-friendly, so you can choose for two room cleaning options. The room was spacious and clean, and it provided some international adpters for electronic devices. The personal was very polite and friendly, and the location is perfect. The closest train station is just a 10 min walk and there are restaurants/convenient stores very close by. It was perfect for walking to the train, markets or other touristy areas around. There is an onsen as well, with modern ammenities.
