We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Universal Port Osaka! If you’re visiting Universal Studios Japan with kids, this is hands-down one of the best places to stay. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the entrance, which made early mornings and late evenings at the park way easier — no stress getting in or rushing to catch a train home with tired kids. 👦👦👦 Great for Kids (and Parents Too!) The hotel really caters to families — our boys were thrilled the moment we walked in. The lobby had fun decorations and playful music that set the mood for the trip. We didn’t stay in a character-themed room, but even our regular room was spacious and super clean. There was enough space to spread out, which made a huge difference after long days at the park. They also had kid-friendly toiletries, pajamas, and slippers — small touches, but they made the boys feel special. 🍳 Breakfast The breakfast buffet was huge 🧺 Amenities That Help The laundry room was super helpful with three boys — we used it mid-trip, and it worked great. Staff were friendly and polite, and check-in was smooth. There’s also a convenience store right in the building, which saved us a few times for late-night snacks and drinks.

It did not have a pool.

Minions!!! If you love minions, this is the hotel for you. My family loves minions, so I had to book a room for our visit to Universal Studios Japan so that we could see more minions. Minions in the lobby. Minions in the elevator. Minions on a bench. Minions everywhere! Check in was a breeze. Setsuko Washio was truly an amazing guide for the hotel. She greeted us, helped with the check in process, gave us minion stickers and wrote us the sweetest note. Dropped off our bags and then headed to Universal Studios Japan for the day. When we got back, we were so surprised that not only were our bags in the room, but Setsuko Washio had handwritten a second note and left minion gifts for our family. This really made a happy day even happier. Thank you!! Location, location, location. Our room was walking distance to Universal Studios. So easy to get there and back and we could see the park from our comfy room. Loved the soaking tub after a long day at the theme park. The aquariums throughout are such a nice touch. Make sure to pick up a toothbrush, hairbrush or hand towel from the large bin in the lobby. Rico Rico for breakfast was great. Loved the traditional Japanese breakfast cuisine. It was a fish lover's dream. Tuna. Salmon. Salted cod roe. Mackerel. Sesame and seaweed. Sushi and sashimi. The veggie curry, salt fried chicken, savory Japanese pancakes, and noodles for breakfast were delicious options. The fresh squeezed orange juice and matcha tea were great ways to start the day. A special thanks to Setsuko Washio and her team of special minions for making our stay a very, very Happy Day!!

That we had to leave!

Good place for foreign tourists to stay. Great location for Universal Studios Japan and other attractions and sites in Osaka. Nice in-house restaurants, including a buffet of Japanese and Western meal options. Gift store has Universal Studios merch and dinosaur-themed souvenirs. Rooms overlook either the harbor or the theme park.

The beds in our room were on the small side (by Western standards), and the third bed was a bit uncomfortable for our kiddo.

The place was awesome. We felt as we were already inside Universal Studios. The room was spacious even for 4. Very clean and proper. And it had a nice sea view.

Our check in. We arrived 40 minutes before check in time, and the girl at the counter told us we had to leave our luggages aside and wait til it was 3 o’clock. We asked her if we could have an early check in, but she refused. We asked to another girl, and she immediately gave us the room cards. Without hesitating! The hotel is few steps from Universal Studios, which is why we stayed here. However if you want to go to Osaka, it can be a bit far.

The location is simply perfect! Universal Studios is just a 5-10 minute walk. And so are the restaurants which are right across Universal Studios. There's also a grocers where you can buy anything Japanese food that you fancy like a 7-11 store. We booked our Special Access for Mario Bros. & the Attraction from the hotel and we are extremely satisfied!!!!! Also booked Harry Potter rides, as well. The room is very spacious, very clean especially the toilet, bathroom. I love the available hangers in the wardrobe closet. AND that Japan is the only country in the world which has potable water from the faucet!!! AND their water tastes soooo good! 😋

Floors be vacuumed a little thoroughly for I still found strands of my hair on the floor carpet. Room Service only starts at 3pm & until 10pm. I would've wanted a piping hot congee in the morning before I take my medicines for I got the infamous Japanese flu while we were in Osaka. 🤒🤮🤢

This was my second time staying at this hotel, and once again, everything was perfect. The location is incredibly convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions and transportation. The amenities are excellent, and the room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. The staff were warm, professional, and always ready to help – their hospitality truly made the stay even more enjoyable. From check-in to check-out, the service was smooth and efficient. I’m very satisfied with my experience and will definitely return again in the future. Highly recommended!

I was hoping that they could provide a free coffee machine at the lobby.

Super helpful staff, very accommodating and kind! We were permitted to check in about an hour and a half early which maximised our stay, and they also kept our baggage for us free of charge the next day while we went to USJ 🤩 We didn’t stay long enough to use all the amenities so no comment there, but there was a laundry and a massage/beauty treatment area on 2F that had prices comparable to back home which was good. We only went to the bar where the cocktails were reasonably priced, well-presented and tasty 🍹🌺 The room size was good, and the separate toilet/bathroom was a plus that we didn’t see in other hotels 👌

We enjoyed a very short stay as you definitely pay a premium for the proximity to Universal. This is the main drawcard, otherwise the location is not exactly beneficial for other sightseeing around Osaka. The pillows were just too firm for Mum and had an interesting texture (sort of like wheat packs in some parts?) but Dad and I didn’t mind the added support!

Rooms were pretty standard hotel rooms, but quite spacious. Beds firm, but comfortable. Pillows were odd. Bathroom was small, Japanese style, with a bath tub. Separate toilet which is always welcome with several people sharing a space. We had 2 rooms booked for our family of 5 and were able to request the adjoining door be opened between the rooms - that was an unexpected bonus. Location was very convenient for the station and USJ, which was our reason for choosing the hotel. It was wonderful to be able to head straight back to the hotel after our busy and exhausting day at USJ. The concierge helped us to arrange luggage forwarding, which we appreciated.

The restaurant was very pricey by Japanese standards. International cuisine buffet was on offer. The food was nice, but not worth the price for our particular family.

Location was close to USJ and Expo, large rooms in comparison to many other hotels in Japan, separate toilet, furo bath, good number of washers and dryers in laundromat, and good selection of items for breakfast.

Little change in items offered for breakfast, basically the same thing for every day for 6 days. Insufficient areas to hang wet towels, needed hooks or towel racks.

Location is outstanding, and it's nice not being directly attached to Universal Studios, just across one street. The kids loved the Minion theme, and we utilized the ferry doc for a scenic Cherry Blossom boat tour (highly recommended) and also took a different ferry to the Aquarium. We got a 4 bed room, in hindsight, two rooms with two beds would have been a little better. Adequate for family trip to Universal Studios.

Good value for the money, the quad room was tight, but to be expected. If looking at that, I'd recommend getting two double rooms instead.
