I loved our stay here. It’s not by any means fancy. The room is small and compact, perfect for sleeping and washing. The location is central, and so are the sights and things to do. We missed the food options, because we got in at 9pm, it the late check in was why we picked this place. Our sleep was peaceful and warm. The building has character and charm. It is heritage listed and there’s history on the walls if you like to read.

Nothing. But if I had to say something, the lift is constantly trying to beat you from getting in. The door closes very fast. Seriously, it’s fast, especially if you’re dragging luggage. It’s also rides the a theme park ride with. lol. We took the stairs to get down because I wanted to be nosey and look around. It really is a charming building.

The receptionist was lovely, very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. He happily told us about the hotel, in which we were interested, and helped us with directions into town. Happily, we were given a good sized room overlooking the courtyard, so it was very peaceful at night, and we slept well. Everything was very clean, we had nice towels, good bedding and the bonus of a fridge, with milk, teabags and coffee. The hotel itself is amazing, if you like old architecture and period features then this is the place for you. The hotel is in a great location, just a quick walk into town, with many shops and places to eat. We would happily stay here again.

One minor issue, the free car park is across a busy road from the hotel. There are two or three 5 minute spaces outside the hotel for unloading your bags. I suggest you use them, especially when leaving. Don't do what we did, which was take all our many heavy bags out in one go, then try to cross the road, during morning rush hour! Complete nightmare, but our own stupid fault!!!

We always stay here as it's a great price! Lol. We love how it's right in town with a large carpark so we can park up then easily walk to many places of interest or into the city for a meal. After a 4hr drive down from Christchurch that's huge. We certainly don't want to be trying to drive around looking for parking!

The beds were pretty soft, so I guess the mattresses were old, however the room had recently had a fresh coat of paint and the bathroom was all clean and white which was great. Tv and wifi worked perfectly.

The location was very good as I could walk to the Intercity bus stop with a full size suitcase on wheels. The city shopping centre, supermarket and local buses were in easy walking distance, as was the Chinese garden. I was very fortunate to have room 104. It was such a pleasure to look out on large trees and not the backs old buildings and have traffice noise. It was good to have an en suite bathroom, teamaking quipment and TV.

The lift!!! Even without a suitcase I had to be very agile to get in and out quickly enough. With a suitcase it was worse. wondered

The hotel was exceptionally convenient, just a 6-minute walk to the New World supermarket and offering free on-site parking. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, providing a relaxing stay. The property also features a well-equipped kitchen, allowing guests to cook their own meals. Additionally, the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always ready to assist, making the overall experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!

The location is great. Not too central and therefore more quiet but still in walking distance to the Octagon and major breweries. Close to the train station which is handy if you're going to the market on Saturday. Our room faced the inner courtyard so it was nice and quiet. Lovely old and original setting. Some things could do with a bit of an upgrade. We enjoyed the lounge in the corner on the first floor looking out onto the street, super classy.

The beds could have been a bit more comfortable, otherwise things were okay.

Hotel looks a bit tired from the outside but is well cared for on the inside.The woodwork is beautiful as are the ornate ceilings. Staff are friendly, knowledgable and helpful eg there wasn't a hairdryer in the room but when I asked at reception I was provided with one to use for my stay. The hotel has a carpark for guests which is very helpful in the middle of a city. Showers and beds both faultless.

Don't have anything bad to say and have already booked to stay again. Great value for money.

Location was very close to the sports venue. Room was adequate, we put the top bunk mattress on the floor for my other daughter as she was confident that the bed would be ok up on the top bunk. It worked better for her having this on the floor. The free parking across the road was excellent. Loved that they had a separate kitchen for us to use so we didnt need to go out and have dinner elsewhere. The room service each day was so welcomed and appreciated. The staff very helpful.

The kitchen facilities had little to no cutlery, otherwise everything else was pretty good in there.

The place is retro but in a old school cool kinda way. The staff are so helpful ans welcoming. Room was big enough to walk around the bed which was very comfortable with extra pillows and blankets. The location is also perfect just a very short walk from the octagon.

There is no heating in the room however there is an electric blanket. It's really noisy both for people walking the corridors and the cars outside but earplugs would have fixed that. Main thing I didn't like is there is no cloths storage space. 1 hook on the back of the door so I used the chair as a cloths horse.

The location is great and the free parking is much appreciated. You can walk to the centre of town very easily from the hotel. The building itself has so much character and is fun to explore, I especially liked the ceiling of the breakfast room and also the photos on the walls. There is a lovely lounge at the "pointy" end of the building. My room had a nice view and a very comfortable bed.

The room was quite small and there weren't a lot of places to put your clothes, but for a short stay that wasn't a big issue for me.
