This is a perfect little spot in a quiet beach town. Our only complaint is due to a very late ferry, we arrived rather too late to really enjoy it. Sandy was very accommodating with a late check-in, sending clear instructions on how to access the suite at night, and providing prompt communication. We arrived even later than expected at 1 am and we were so grateful to find such a cosy, clean suite. The bed was amazingly comfortable, and it was incredibly quiet outside. We appreciated the breakfast items (croissants, yogurt, cereals, fruits, toast, coffee, tea, milk etc) and the shower was amazing. There are lots of nice touches (games and DVDs in the shelf, extra blankets, lovely shampoo) and there is a cute private patio to enjoy. Free easy parking right outside. And to top it off, it's a short walk to a spectacularly long sandy beach for a morning stroll!

Excellent variety for breakfast, in fact the toast was so nice we had to buy a loaf of the bread. We were staying for 4 days, so used it all up, as a couple of nights when we didn't feel like cooking just ate what was in the unit. The croissants were extremely good, and along with 3 varieties of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, 2 varieties of jam, plus butter we didn't starve. The little unit was cosy and more than adequate.

The only thing that we had a problem with was the TV, saw the owner who fixed it easily, the only other thing was operating the bathroom heater. I couldn't get that to work. Operator more than appliance I would think

One of the best experiences we've had in a long time. We loved the accommodation itself (everything has been well thought out and catered for), we loved the location (a 3min walk to the beach or 4min drive to Waikanae), and we loved the hosts (who are very helpful and friendly). If it's a warm day it's lovely to sit on the deck and read a book in the sun, or if it's cooler it's relaxing to sit on the chairs inside. The kitchenette was very well stocked with utensils, plates, mugs, glasses and even small jars of breakfast cereals and salt, pepper etc. The fridge had a generous bottle of milk, toppings for toast, and a small pottle of yoghurt, and the freezer had two slices of bread and two croissants for breakfast. All the appliances were modern. The shower is very spacious and the hosts kindly supply lovely hand soap, shampoo, conditioner and even shaving cream. The hosts really go above and beyond what most hosts do.

The breakfast was great - my dietary requirement were taken into account. Small containers of fruit were in the freezer. On arrival in the fridge was a bottle of filtered water and a bottle of sparkling water which was refilled on request. The hosts were amazing, being very friendly but not intrusive. It felt very homely and comfortable from fist stepping in the door. it was a well thought out layout and very comfortable. It was the perfect relaxation spot. The beach was easy walking distance.

We enjoyed another lovely stay at Near the Shore. The hosts are so kind, friendly and welcoming. The rooms are huge and the beds are comfortable. Breakfast choices that are supplied are delicous and an amazing variety. Near the Shore suits us perfectly when we want a wee weekend break at Peka Peka beach with friends. We highly recommend it and will book again. Thanks so much!

The apartment is adjacent/attached to the hosts' home. Parking is in the driveway and the floor-to-ceiling sliding glass entrance to the apartment is via the nice patio and beautifully landscaped yard. We were met by the very nice and gracious hosts, who had also written entry instructions on a chalkboard in case they were not home upon our arrival. The apartment was exceptionally clean and well-appointed. The kitchen had all necessary kitchenware and ingredients (coffee, tea, croissant, bread, jam, yogurt, muesli, etc) for a continental breakfast were supplied. There were 3 sitting areas in the apartment as well as a small patio with seating out of sight of the main house. Unfortunately, we were only there 1 night, got there late and left relatively early, so we cannot say too much about the area or beach.

Such a fabulous stay at such short notice:) beautiful and quiet accommodation. A fabulous seasonal garden to pick from for breakfast… Italian parsley thyme .. lemons .. Huge bed and gorgeous shower :) yummy croissant and cereal breakfast with yogurt and fruit .. and the best selection of coffee and Tea .. Highly recommended ❤️

The facilities, the room, the fittings, the privacy, the breakfast provsions, the garden outlook, the ;proximity to the beach, but above all the hospitality shown to us by Sandy and Ray.

A little short on bench space bt this won't be a problem if you don't plan to do any more than use the microwave. There's a good-sized table outside on the patio.

The unit was very pleasant, sunny, bright & clean. Very comfortable with floor heating. Good, secure parking on site. Breakfast provided was all you needed to start your day. Only short drive to Waikanae. A lovely nursery close by was a great location for lunch. Host Sandy was very friendly & helpful without being intrusive.

We would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful thank water to drink free of nasty town water chemicals. Fabulous spot and people and very comfy. Lovely cottage garden.

Suggest swapping the big antique dining table for a little one so there’s more room to sit in the sun, and swapping one of the three couches for two comfy chairs. That would make the space more functional for short stays.
