Great location near the dock. Several restaurants on site. It was busy during the day but was wonderfully calm in the evening. The Viking Room was cool but a bit impractical. (See below)

The Viking Rooms have a huge skylight. Those skylights on the other side of the circular building must have offered spectacular views of the nearby waterfalls. However, our room faced the ferry parking lot. The security lights illuminated our room all night long.

Gudvangen Fjordtell made us feel very welcome. Great options for food, drink, walks, fjord cruise, access on E16 road to sights. Buffet breakfast to fuel for the day.A la carte restaurant delicious but the bakery and pizzeria were a perfect addition.Viking village was a great experience too. Stocked up on plenty of treats from the on site shop too. Our favourite moment was sitting in the afternoon sun watching it eclipse the Næroysfjord whilst sipping on a beer. We opted to stay in the private bathroom accommodation. It was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a great stay. Absolutely loved our stay here.

We have nothing we did not like

The Gudvangen Fjordtell offered an unparalleled experience during our recent visit to Norway, with its Viking Rooms providing the perfect blend of history and modern comfort. We were captivated by the hotel's beautiful surroundings, which allowed us to immerse ourselves in the region's natural beauty while staying in a room that transported us back in time. The proximity to the cruise/ferry terminal and Viking village added to our enjoyment, as did the nearby restaurants offering delicious food and the friendly staff who made our stay feel special from the moment we arrived. Although finding parking in the afternoon could be challenging due to the large public parking area, we were grateful for the early check-in option, which allowed us to start enjoying the hotel's amenities earlier than planned. Overall, we cannot recommend Gudvangen Fjordtell highly enough and will cherish our memories of this unforgettable stay in Norway!

What an amazing place to stay!! The view was absolutely breathtaking! The rooms are all clean and spacious. Staff were very nice and the breakfast place was right at the fjord. Very nice and delicious! Little gift shop right at the breakfast place. Pizzeria, bakery and restaurant were pricey but very good!

The rooms are not directly at the breakfast place but it’s just a small walk. Do book activities in advance!! Lots of bus tours are stopping here and the fjord tours and Kajak adventures are sold out early. Sadly the Viking rooms are only available for two people and not for families.

The restaurant/gift shop was in a beautiful, comfortable setting and the staff was very kind and helpful. Our little apartment was down the road a bit and so on the night of our arrival the receptionist volunteered to stay until we finished our dinner and then gave us a ride in a golf cart to be sure we found it! Everything was close by. We enjoyed renting a kayak and going out into the fjord. The staff there was also very kind (and patient!). It was my friend’s birthday so our waiter surprised us with free glasses of wine after dinner while we sat by the fire! We had a wonderful time!

In our opinion, this is the best hotel in the area! We were greeted with a wonderful surprise upon arrival, they had upgraded our room for free. Thank you for this kind gesture! The hotel is beautifully designed with a Viking theme and offers breathtaking views of the Nærøyfjord. Our room was spotless, thoughtfully decorated, and filled with charming details. Falling asleep while watching the rain through the glass ceiling was an unforgettable and romantic experience. The breakfast was exceptional, with a wide variety of delicious options. One of the highlights was the fresh dough they provide, allowing you to make your own perfect waffle. The only hiccup was that a staff member observed us in a way that made us feel as if we were doing something wrong and questioned us, which felt a bit uncomfortable. In such a beautiful hotel, we would have expected guests to be treated with more kindness. This happened when we returned after checking out to explore the area and buy some souvenirs. It was clearly a misunderstanding, but it still left us feeling a little disappointed. Despite this, we had a wonderful stay.

Incredible location on the fjord. Peaceful views of the waterfalls. It seems the whole town has been turned into a hotel so the rooms are definitely historical and old buildings, but they seem to have updated them. They aren’t luxury by any means but are clean and the location makes up for it. The restaurants and bakery were good and the staff was very friendly. I definitely preferred staying in gudvangen over Flåm. Gudvangen felt more peaceful and authentic with incredible nature views while glam felt very very touristy. I would recommend the hotel and town again

The location was perfectly situated in the fjord. The room was clean and accessible by road and by boat. The view from the room was breath-taking, and we could watch a waterfall from the mountain side. The continental breakfast was good and dinner at the restaurant was excellent. Hiking/boating/kayaking are very accessible, and just across from the rooms, there is a playground and the viking village attraction.

The room has a skylight, which I loved, however during the summer the residual sunlight kept the room a little bright. My husband would have preferred an optional shade for the night. The room retained heat and did have the option to keep a window open as well as a fan, but if you keep the window or the door open, privacy is difficult because the room opens to walking paths and the privacy for the rooms comes from curtains in front of the door.

We had a great experience at Gudvangen Fjordtell. We were upgraded for free to the Viking Room which had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location of the hotel is spectacular, at the foot of the fjord and with towering mountains and waterfalls surrounding it. The Viking Village is literally across the stream and only a 5 minute walk away and certainly worth a visit. The main road for is also very close by if you need to catch a bus from there. There is a restaurant and souvenir shop attached to the hotel. The food was good and there was a huge variety available at the breakfast buffet. We would recommend a stay here.

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment which was very comfortable and well appointed. Being early November, it was not crowded and we felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. The food in the main restaurant was very good as was the breakfast. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, even allowing us some extra time to check out so we could visit the Viking Village next door. The surrounds of the hotel is breathtakingly beautiful with the fjord and waterfalls . Loved it and recommend.

We loved it all. It may not be appropriate for people with accessibility issues but there are other room types which may cater to these needs.
