Location. Room size. Balcony. Appearance.

Too minimalistic. Tub was too slippery without any anti-slip mat or base. No bars on side to hold. The shower water spilled over easily outside of the tub and on floor making a mess daily. The tub in itself when used only once caused huge water pool on the floor out-side of tub when water was draining, making a huge mess that needed 4 bath towels to dry. Clearly, that who system is flawed and must be replaced with safer, efficient one.

The location was awesome - the Airport train terminus was right outside hotel, everything you wanted to see was within easy walking distance, T-bane right next door at the Train Station The breakfast was awesome - everything you could possibly want to eat for breakfast!!!! The room was a good size and the separate comforters worked perfectly.

The mini fridge did not work for the first few days. We were offered a different room, however, we managed with ice cubes and the bathroom sink. The tub was high to get out of which for a less mobile person could present problems. Something to think about as we are getting older.

Thon Hotel Opera is especially well located if somebody wishes to explore the seaside, the inner city or travel around by train. Unlike many other European cities, the station neighbourhood is less urban next to the hotel. It is a short walking distance from major points of interest and very close to the sea. The staff are very friendly and competent. They even opened us the more convenient door when we left early in the morning (as usually that door is closed for the night), so that we would not have to take the suitcases on the stairs. The breakfast seemed nice afar, but we could not try it, because we were in a hurry. The bathroom looks pretty puritanistic, but on the other hand the water pressure and temperature were really nice, and the whole bathroom was nicely functional. The room had everything we needed. To our surprise, the window could be opened properly, so it was nice to sleep for the fresh seaside cold air. :)

The bathroom design in basically all Scandinavian countries is absolutely underwhelming and even unfriendly (square white tiles, come on... at least add some soft light or something a 4/5 star hotel, pretty please? It might come off as a first world problem, but the blankets were too narrow and short. Nice and warm, but too small.

Location

No safe in the room of 4 star hotel! Hotel reception said only some of rooms have safe. I requested for portable safe to be sent to my room, but I was instead offered to leave my staff in the safe at reception ( unusual request in my experience). I then requested to change my room to one with safe, they said hotel is fully booked… and interestingly when I mentioned to the gentleman at reception ( A.H) that i would put this in my review, he didn’t care at all. So if you’re in this hotel and face issues then good luck as you’re on your own. If you’re looking for alternative hotel, would suggest to book clarion hotel which is 4 star same as thon but ahead of them by miles in terms of facility ( room with safe) and customer service, and still close to train station.

We chose the Thon Opera for its location immediately adjacent to the central train station. The best way into Oslo from the airport is the express train to the central station. Then we just rolled our suitcases next door to the hotel. It's also close to the Opera House. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The breakfast had an amazing array of choices, all very delicious.

The temperature in Oslo was about 5-10 degrees (F) above normal and the hotel is not air conditioned so the room was uncomfortably hot. We opened a window, but that didn't help much. We asked for a fan but the hotel had already given out all they had. If they are not going to invest in air conditioning, they should keep enough fans in storage for every room because heat waves will continue to occur.

I travel a lot so lots of comparisons. The staff were superb (Caroline especially). Location immediately adjacent to station, opposite stunning opera house, Munch Gallery. Back to the staff - really extraordinarily professional. The breakfast for a hotel of this type - the best I have ever had - and I can be really critical about breakfast! Again, the staff in the breakfast area were excellent. The gym? Is actually properly equipped and is a proper 'hotel' gym. Really impressed.

I gave a bit of feedback to the hotel - interestingly they welcomed it. Which sort of sums the place up.

The location is great. You can walk to many of the major attractions Munch Museum, Opera House, and a bit farther but still walking distance - the main pier, City Hall, near many restaurants) and the train station which provides easy access to the airport is next door. The rooms are on the smaller size (but average by European standards). Everything was spotless and our room had a nice shower. The bathrobes provided were much softer than many. The included breakfast provided many options.

It was very hard to lock the door of the room when you left (or we had trouble getting it to work). We had never encountered this system before.

Central location by the Opra house. Personal touches, which made our wedding anniversary special. Stayed for 3 night. B& B, Buffet breakfast was of high standard. Plenty of choice. Lovely room overlooking the fountain on the square. Watching the Sunset every night was magical. Fruit bouquet in the room on our arrival. Emailed prior to our arrival to reserve a table in the restaurant. Fantastic meal and even got a complimentary dessert. Just love this hotel. Central location and this was our second stay. Next time cant come soon enough.

Perfect location. Right next to the train station, 20 mins straight from the airport. It is very central. Everything is walkable. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. The room had everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was fabulous. Everything you could want and more. There are many restaurants close by and the Opera house is right across the road. We didn't hesitate to book again when we were stranded in Oslo on our way back to the UK because of the Heathrow closure. 2 stays in 7 days.....it felt like home. Don't hesitate, book it as your base to explore Oslo.

Excellent, comfortable hotel in perfect location in central Oslo, a stone’s throw away from the station. Spacious, well-equipped, nicely designed room with a comfortable bed and a good sized bathroom. Lots of seating within the room and the bonus of a balcony with city view. Fabulous, well-staffed breakfast providing ample, delicious choices. Healthy ginger, carrot and orange breakfast shot which was offered, not only on arrival, but served at the table, was a welcome extra touch. The staff were all very friendly and hospitable. All in all, we had a wonderful stay at the Thon Hotel Opera- many thanks to all of the team.
