It was a quite magical place and surroundings. Nothing could be faulted . Magnificently restored, homely and cosy on large scale and like stepping back centuries but with mod cons. Our deluxe double with balcony and mountain view was comfortable with a huge bed. Our evening dinner was delicious, beautifully presented and the chef even gave us a taster of his special mushroom icecream dessert....yes, really... and have to say it was divine. Breakfast was equally good with a great variety of cereals, cheeses & meats and hot choices. Lots of preserves and even a honeycomb to scrape for your toast The staff were lovely, friendly, chatty & helpful. Lovely walks and views . Highly recommend for a tranquil stay.

This pousada is ideal for those who love stunning views, nature and birdwatching. We saw nightjar, booted eagles and hoopoes here. The facilties are lovely, with plenty of gorgeous rooms to sit and relax in. You get a real sense of history. Breakfast is copious, including mini pasteis de nata, scrambled eggs, bacon, tomatoesand mushrooms. Friendly helpful staff.

You have to drive into the centre of Belmonte as it is a bit too far to walk (2kms) but this just means it is that bit more peaceful.

Very comfortable well appointed room, beautiful view northwards. Beautifully thought out common sitting areas in the historic part of the building (a convent), subtle background music, right temperature. Breakfast was exceptionally good and varied. Staff on reception and restaurant/bar always attentive and helpful.

Little to be critical about. I have a Pestana and Pousadas card which I presented, which in the past would have meant something in the Pousada/Pestana world but despite being labelled a Pousada and on the cards being listed as Pestana, there were no significant benefits (other than 5% off in the main restaurant). Apparently this Pousada is a franchise which has been in a family for around 20+ years. This did not detract from the stay and I would be happy to recommend it to anyone who has transport to get there.

Hidden in the hills across medieval town of Belmonte, Pousada is a combination of history and luxury. It offers beautiful views of the valley, patches of old stones, and luxuriously comfortable rooms. The dinning, featuring local cuisine from a renown chief, is exceptional and worthy of its own review. Breakfast is at the buffet. The Pousada grounds are crossed by Serra Da Estrela trails (PR1 BMT) which will take you to the archaeological sites if you go south, or to Belmonte if you go north. The map and the trailhead are next to the Pousada gate. It was lovely to return to the comfort of the Pousada after a day of hiking or exploring old Belmonte. Visiting from US, being able to enjoy such luxury felt like a gift.

Beautiful setting in nature, built from a centuries old convent, and beautifully, tastefully decorated. Loved our large room; it was tastefully decorated and the bed was the most comfortable we've slept in during our trip!

The hotel is a couple of kilometers away from the town, so too far to comfortably walk there for meals and sightseeing. Gourmet restaurant fell short of expectations. My fish was served half raw. The waiter quickly took it back and replaced it with a lovely replacement.

wonderful peaceful and quiet location and a really imaginative adaptation of an old Monastery en route to the Serra Estrella by motorcycle. Great meal, lovely waiting staff and exceptional own wine and atmospheric lounges in the former ancient buildings and lovely dining room with terraces overlooking the valley. Our room was on the lower level and was well appointed with a lovely sunny balcony above a gorgeous wild garden thrumming with nature.

Sadly (it was early in the season and we arrived with a couple of hours notice, as we tend to do)) our room smelt of damp and the bed had not been aired and was also damp. Such a shame that no one had checked it before our arrival. We had to get a second key to leave the power on while we went for supper above, leaving the heating on full blast to try and rectify things. I'm sure this wouldn't have happened later in the season when the weather has warmed up but it really did spoil our stay.

The room was gorgeous ,the balcony had breathtaking views and was one of the most beautiful places we ever stayed. The furnishing was out of a magazine. The surrounding area around the hotel were equally beautiful with many interesting corners and settings.The staff were extremely pleasant helpful and accommodating.

The only issue for me was that there was no walk-in shower. I walk with a cane due to balance issues and the bathtub was very difficult for those who are older or have slight limitations it created a problem. Also the hotel does not have an elevator but the staff changed my room as soon as I arrived as stairs would have been dangerous for me. Truthfully I loved the place so much I could overlook it .One has to know their own limitations.

We loved the look and feel of the Convento, the stone walls and windows are lovely but the location does not lend itself to the building, the bathroom is quite dated and to get into the shower ( which is a shower above a bath ) is quite tricky. Meals were great and service was very good.

There didn’t appear to be enough staff to service the horses. In order to get a drink you had to get reception to find someone and wait for them to turn up. Getting bags to rooms was hard as required a lot of steps and uneven floors. For a high class restaurant the maitre de was underdressed and staff had little understanding and experience serving.

Everything- especially the staff who were so kind and welcoming. Lunch was incredible. Room was spotless with gorgeous bed linen. Hotel was incredibly quiet with no noise or being disturbed by other guests. Perfect night’s sleep. A score of 10 doesn’t do it justice.
