Pleasant setting and gardens. Close to centre and sea view. Nice atmosphere with a historic feel and quiet surroundings. Good breakfast options.

Amazing location, in the old town and 2 mins walk to lovely restaurants like basalto which has lovely views, and three house rooftop. The staff were really helpful and polite, drinks were great, pool area and terrace feel like a bit of paradise after exploring the island in the mornings. It catches the sun late in the day because of its position so really lovely for drinks before dinner. The hotel did us picnic lunches to take out with us in the daytimes which saved us going to the supermarket.

We really loved it and it’s great value for money. However we had three rooms between 6 of us and all of them were hot at night as the air conditioning is non existent. We slept with the balcony doors open. Secondly the breakfast was cold even straight from the buffet. None of this took away from our overall stay though which was really lovely.

We really loved the location of this hotel. It was less than 10 minutes walk from a huge variety of restaurants in the old town. Same distance to the centre of town and shops and also the cable car up to Monte. The view from our balcony across the bay was also fabulous. Great views of the cruise ships coming in and out and of the town at night. One thing we were hugely surprised by was how quiet the hotel was but we soon learned that even on a busy day, even though Funchal is the capital city, there is very little traffic noise and no traffic jams /rush hour. The hotel was like descending on an oasis of calm.

The car park at the hotel was a little stressful to get in and out of the spaces if you have a mid sized car. There is very little room to shift around if you did not get back early enough to get a good space. There were no tea and coffee facilities in the room. The bed was quite hard. There was only 1 socket for charging / hairdryer etc.

Breakfast was good with a good selection of things to choose from and the layout was well organised. Most of the time there were alternative milks available, also gluten free bread. The location was excellent, a short walk from the promenade and numerous restaurants. This is important as Funchal is located on a steep hill, we wouldn't have wanted to be any further up that hill. Staff were excellent and helpful, an especial mention for Dario on reception, Maria in the dining hall and Rui the bartender. Rui was very friendly and went out of his way to provide us with a good service at the bar. We were grateful that our room was upgraded to a suite.

The curtains in our room could have done with being replaced, they looked old and a bit tatty. The weird electrics in rooms 203 and 411 really need updating. Some of the lights had switches on the wall but some did not, we were given a remote control to operate them which was very complicated to use as the symbols didn't appear to correspond with what was expected. I ended up drawing a little diagram to help me. Being gluten free I felt a bit left out at breakfast. Although there was G/F bread there were no G/F cakes.

Friendly staff. Welcome drink. Great choice of food for breakfast. Excellent location right in the centre by the ocean.

Parking in the hotel garage is very tight. Danger of scraping the car. Also if there are more guests in the hotel, you have no chance to park. However, in close proximity to the hotel there is a paid garage house. The lights in the room need to be checked more often. The light bulb in the corridor by the door was not working, and the big lamp in the corner of the room was not working either.

Disappointed our TV did not work, and took several days for this to be resolved. But it did not affect our stay.

Great location just a short walk from the old town in Funchal. Buses easy to access as well. Somewhat steep hill going up to the hotel with no sidewalk, but easily managed and completely worth it. Beautiful pool and view, as well as a lovely breakfast every morning. Receptive and friendly staff as well.

I had a really great experience at this hotel! Staff was very friendly and morning breakfast was delicious and with a lot of variety. We had a great view of the city/ocean. I’d like to mention that my mother forgot her ring in our room and I called regarding that. The staff was prompt and kind to return it via mail to our home in the USA. Special kudos to Karina and David for their help!!

Staff were friendly, breakfast was lovely - very tasty and good selection, location is perfect - walking distance to everything in Funchal. Free underground secure parking is a huge bonus as well! We didn't get to use the facilities unfortunately but the pool looked very inviting had the weather been better.

The decor was a little dated but not a huge problem as everything still comfortable and worked fine!
