Excellent service, superb location, good breakfast.

Room with park view was quite small even though we paid for an upgrade suggested by the staff for a bigger room. We booked two months in advance thinking that there might not be availability later but turns out we paid around 100 or more per night than we would if we had just showed up and asked for a room. This was true across hotels in the area of similar quality. Based on this experience I will be very skeptical on booking accommodations in advance in this area or via booking website.

NH Nacional is located in an historical building just across the street from Atocha Railway Station, which makes day trips outside the city by rail so easy. For example, Segovia is only 30 minutes away with AVE; no need to book an expensive tour and travel on a crowded bus with someone trying to speak English posing as a guide. The hotel is clean and comfortable and is relatively affordable considering the price of similar hotels in Madrid. Best to investigate the difference in the rate for paying upfront [which I did and was able to save a considerable sum] or paying at the hotel. If you know you are going -- pay up front and save. The bed is quite inviting, especially the pillows. The included breakfast on the second floor is exceptional. Such variety that you can stay for six days and still not try all of the available goodies. Fresh juices, awesome baked goods, and a yogurt bar complement the typical items found in the nice hotels in Madrid. Perhaps most refreshing was the incredibly pleasant and helpful staff, from the front desk, to the breakfast room, to the delightful lady in the restaurant who provided me with a bucket of ice each evening.

I was unable to determine why there was a small metal stool at the entrance to the shower, but I just tossed it under the sink every night.

The first breakfast greeting was a little 'abrupt' ("What's your room number" while being 'chased' towards my wife's table). However it all got a lot better after that ;-). Personal taste only but I would prefer a standup bar for both drinks and a quick coffee rather than sitting in the lobby. The drinks were very expensive and there were only higher priced brands like Grey Goose for example and only one (expensive) national gin. Your brandy selection largely had the most expensive. I wanted a Cointreau but you were out of stock every night… The day b&b rate was high I thought.

The hotel is located in a good area, it is just across the street from the Botanical Gardens and the Prado. It is very clean and all the staff are great. Breakfast was excellent. We had a balcony in our room which was nice to be able to look out at the Botanical gardens and the different buildings nearby.

It is on a very busy street so there is noise from traffic and emergency services sirens, BUT once we closed the balcony door we could hardly hear any of it. The bed was comfortable but if one of us turned over, the other one bounced!

LOCATION! a perfect place to stay! From the gorgeous park across the street, to the museums and just a couple of blocks from Antocha railway station...it was a great start to my vacay! ACCOMMODATION! Great room with beautiful balcony overlooking Paseo Del Prado. Attention to detail and cleanliness was A RATING! BREAKFAST! Wonderful way to start the day, absolutely fresh and delicious! I also had room service and ate at their restaurant, also excellent ! STAFF! Their attention to customer service is a 10 star rating! Everyone always with a genuine smile and ready to assist. I am looking forward to returning and will recommend this hotel to friends, family and colleagues!

The hotel was located in a perfect spot, near the Atocha Station and the Prado Museum. I had a balcony off my room, which was perfect for looking out on the city and enjoying my morning coffee. The staff were polite and helpful.

I wish the room had a coffee machine or that coffee was easier to get early in the morning without having to pay for breakfast. Fortunately, there is a McDonalds on the corner that has a very tasty cafe con leche.

The breakfast was superb with fresh cooked items and loads of choice. Lovely fresh fruit and choices of breads and pastries. The staff were all very friendly and helpful especially Paco in the restaurant. We also used the restaurant for lunch on some of the days which was very nice. The hotel is directly opposite the Botanical Gardens and the main park which are both lovely to walk around and it is also close to the Prada museum. Lots of shops and restaurants are within walking distance. An ideal hotel for city breaks.
