the area is ideal to explore the parks and seaside close by. The staff were welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. the breakfast was amazing lots of choice and everything was well prepared and delicious, especially the avocado toast. The bar area was very comfortable with a good choice of spirits and cocktails. I look forward to visiting again.

The only thing that could have been better would have been the addition of a proper wardrobe. We booked a large double bed room which had an open storage unit with a rail. We had to move the coffee machine to accommodate clothing and there were not enough hangers. The room appeared to be more adequate for a one or two night stay rather than a week. But as this was the only thing I would have changed it would not be enough to put me off visiting again

The location for walking in the Mourne Mountains was good and the staff were extremely helpful - the chef and dining staff (shout out to Katriona) deserve a special mention as the food and service were exceptional.

When booking we didn't realise our superior double room was on the front of the hotel which was on the main road through Castlewellan and for two light sleepers was quite noisy. However we spoke with Reception the next day and they were able to move us to a smaller room where we didn't hear the traffic. Really appreciated that!

Lovely hotel and presentation. We picked there to stay close to castlewellan castle where our son was for his school trip to pick up later and great location for that. It is right next to castlewellan grounds with a lovely walk from hotel we enjoyed The reception to halls and rooms were all l modern and rooms with excellent layout and space. Bathroom big with great shower, beds comfortable, good hot drink making facilities etc. Staff in there were very friendly and accommodating all of our needs making us feel welcome at every turn with special shout out to Katrina. Food for dinner and breakfast was top quality and beautifully presented. Kids really enjoyed hotel as we. Would definitely go back again at somepoint. Thanks for excellent time!

We loved our stay at the Hillyard. It was our second time to stay here and I have to say it met and surpassed our expectations. It ticks every box for us, lovely decor, great food and drink, spacious and modern bedrooms, great location at the entrance to Castlewellan forest park and most importantly of all the hotel staff who were all so helpful, friendly and made our stay so relaxing and memorable. Well done to you all at the Hillyard, keep doing what you’re doing.

Breakfast at Hillyard was superb. Cooked fresh, lovely selection and a lovely buffet table with gorgeous breads, local butter etc. We had the Mrs Coleman fry and omelette, and both were fabulous. Ate in the restaurant on Saturday night and this has gone a bit 'fine dining' which is fine, but not to everyone's taste. The cocktails in Mrs Colemans bar and the entertainment on Saturday night were superb! Lovely hot water and toiletries and Kingsize towels on offer in the bathroom. Superb!

Please update the coat hangers in the rooms. Ours were awful wire hangers. This is the only negative comment I have!

The hotel was so clean and comfortable and staff very friendly

We stayed here because we were attending the Irish open and i paid £678 for 2 nights b&b and when i went to our room they were advertising 1 night b&b for £99.50, while i understand that there's a markup because of the golf but i thought that this price was ridiculous and prior to our stay i had to pay 2weeks before we arrive even thou i had pay on arrival thru booking.com, the hotel told us that they wanted payment because they were extremely busy because of the golf but i have never seen a hotel as quiet in my life, first morning of breakfast it was just me and husband, i could've had a week in the sun for that price but because it was a special birthday present for my husband i paid it but I'm extremely angry about it the more i think of it.

The Mrs Colemans fry was great. The bacon was like slices of gammon. The inside was modern and TARDIS like. There was a heavy use of young staff, which was nice to see.

There is an option to have room service tidy your room, by leaving the little hanger on the outside of the door. We did this on our second day and on return, the bed was made up, new towels placed on the floor, but none removed from the bathroom. The toilet rim was brown and the holder for the brush part full of water. A hoover hadn't been run over the carpets for a while and dust was quite heavy on the ledge above the bed. Our used tea and coffee cups weren't replaced. The room was top of house at the front facing the busy main road. We didn't mind this really. There were heavy curtains over the windows which you couldn't open to let light in until fully dressed as there were no net curtains for privacy. All in all, we needed the break and enjoyed our stay and the staff.

14th to 15th of August 2025. Spent one night at this hotel, had room 203, all delightful, plenty of space, the bathroom is huge, lots of towels, comfy shower. Very close to Castlewellan Country Park & Lake. Had breakfast & lunch, good food, lots of choises. The coffee hit well and the scrambled eggs were perfect♥️. Happy with all for the price we paid. The park deserves extra 10🌟

It was close to amenities, the room was nice,and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was lovely. Had a meal in the Restaurant on the first evening.was ok.

I had emailed about the gluten free option before going,I was told they had GF options on the menu,I was a bit disappointed on the first evening when they couldn't offer me much choice. Room was cold on arrival and a lot smaller than I thought.

It is very convenient and central in the town. Just at the entrance to the Forest Park. Nice hotel and well maintained. I was in Castlewellen for a funeral and the central location was perfect for me. The ensuite bathroom was nice. The aircon works well, but I did not need it as I had the window open. Even though the window was open the room was quiet and secure. I had delhi belly in the middle of the night, probably from something I ate earlier and the porter was exceptionally kind and helpful at 3am fetching me ice cold filtered water. (By the way my illness was not necessarily hotel related). Unfortunately I cannot comment on Breakfast as I was out of sorts and skipped it.

No Car Parking available. But street parking is Free, so it is not a major issue. The room was small but it was fine for a single occupant at that price point.
