The room was clean and comfortable with a walk in shower. Generous tea/coffee tray, Cookie on arrival (very nice). I was shown to my room on arrival and had my case carried for me. There was a complimentary continental breakfast in the morning which I was not expecting and the opportunity to purchase a cooked breakfast. Staff were very friendly and helpful and I felt very welcome. I didn't eat in the evening but had a few drinks in the bar and was made very welcome by the local regulars. Great atmosphere and well stocked bar.

Stairs to my room but now know for future bookings if I speak direct to the venue I would have the opportunity to book a downstairs room with walk in shower, which is a must for me. It wasn't a problem because I was helped up and down the stairs with my case by the very willing staff.

Room was lovely and very clean. You could tell it had been thoughtfully designed and was well decorated. Very comfortable night's sleep and stay and exceptionally clean!

I appreciate that the facitily trying to address the lack of breakfast in previous reviews. For walkers there is no other option to get breakfast or any food in the morning with nearest shops miles away. They now offer some croissants, toast and cereal and juice which can be accessed as you like in the morning. I was grateful for this, but the bread was hard, there wasn't enough cutlery or anything to put on toast other than butter and set honey. With a little more effort it could have been brilliant - eg some jam, enough cutlery, fruit or yoghurt and bread that is fresh. The price paid per night was a lot higher than other places I stayed where a cooked breakfast was provided.

The place it a lovely pub in the middle of the village, lovely building, interior really nicely done and lots of outside seating for a summers drink.. The room we had was a small double, but plenty of room for a night, decoration really nice and true to pictures, clean, great shower and luxury toiletries, and even though breakfast wasn’t included, they had a nice simple offering of pastries, milk, and cereal you could get in the morning.. Staff really friendly, and wish the new manger luck.

Not really dislikes.. just comments.. we paid through booking.com, and then on arrival my partner was asked to pay on arrival.. think this is miscommunication with Booking.com as they have no notification that guest have paid already.. but I was refunded straight away so issue solved.. The room was really hot, our radiator was scolding hot, couldn’t turn it off, we put the bath towel over it to deflect the heat, and window would only open an inch so little air.. but having worked in Hotels for years I know that these old buildings have hot pipes that are all connected to hot water and central boiler so hard to have all the work redone or turn off one without turning off the other..

The menu was extensive for dinner and good value for money, tasty and well presented. I didn't have breakfast however there was a continental breakfast put out for those who didn't want a full breakfast, which I thought was a great idea and was at no extra cost. My room was lovely and the shower was nice and hot and powerful. The only problem was the fans stopping and starting all night! I was woken every hour which was not conducive to a good nights sleep! The staff were lovely, they couldn't have been more accommodating regarding our bikes ....

The noise over night was bad, I shut the windows however it made little difference. I would definitely recommend the pub and I would stay again but I would take my ear plugs!!!!

There was a continental breakfast which was fine . I also had the option of cooked . Evening meal was very nice and the staff were throughout pleasant and helpful. Nice outside courtyard .Location excellent .

Room v hot ( although the fan was much appreciated ). Handles on dressing table hanging off ( which wasn’t a major issue but it does make the room look a bit shabby ) struggled with the blind but the staff quickly sorted it out.

Lovely pub inn, with great spacious quiet rooms. Great beers and dinner. Immaculately clean and really great friendly staff. Perfect last rest as I came off my hike along the Ridgeway Path.

Unfortunately the venue could not offer breakfast. It was understandable as, allegedly the pub inn had recently suffered from rogue landlord/manager who had to go. But she had been replace with a super efficient couple who had come in to rescue the operation. I'm sure they have done a great job since. They were certainly doing so when I stayed there.

Beautiful room, well decorated and very comfortable bed and pillows. Loved the whole set up especially the tea and coffee (no instant!) and the big pile of lush towels. The building is lovely, full of character. Loved the pub meal and the staff were fantastic

I found the shower difficult to use - the shower head up high and faced the back wall! Took some tricky balancing to get it in a good position. The building was overheated - a bit too warm for me

Staff were friendly. We had an evening meal.and one cooked breakfast. The food was good and service was great. Good value for money. The real ale also good. Room was comfortable and clean. We would recommend staying at the Crown and look forward to a return visit.

The room would benefit from having a chair and small table. We didn't need a work station but other guests might.

Room on the small side - no chair or fridge. OK for a single person, not sure if a couple would be comfortable! Cold water tap was lukewarm! Food very good quality but maybe a bit too “artisan” - soup came with a small piece of sourdough bread, I’d have been happier just with a bread roll or toast! Room not cleaned until end of stay - this might be the usual practice, but I think it would be better in that case to let people know.

Good parking, location, comfy beds, a surprise complimentary continental breakfast. The cooked breakfast was really nice and just the right amount. Staff are friendly. Village is quiet and peaceful but just off the A34! Great value for money with tea/coffee and biscuits in the room. Everything you need for a restful sleep!
