We enjoyed our evening meals and we can recommend the full English breakfast. The open and bright breakfast room was well designed and we enjoyed being in there. Also the landing was bright and a lovely place to relax. All the staff, which I believe to be family, were very friendly and helpful. Everywhere was clean including the bathroom which had all that we needed. The hotel provides easy access to Matlock, Matlock Bath, The Heights of Abraham, Cromford Mill and is within easy reach of Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Carsington Water and Bakewell.

Probably because I booked late we had an attic room. The room was fine but small. I banged my head a few times. Also, at 79, I found the stairs a bit difficult. There is no lift. I would suggest trying to book a room on the first floor for more comfort.

The room was immaculate and well kept. We were able to check in early and the room was spacious, well equipped and comfy. The location was perfectly in between Matlock and Matlock Bath and the walk to each was pleasant and only 10 mins max in each direction. Both Matlock and Matlock Bath offer different experience’s so it is worth visiting both. The staff were lovely, informative and not only allowed us to check in early, they allowed us to leave our car in the car park after check out whilst we went shopping. The hotel was fantastic value for money and we will certainly stay here again.

The hotel was spacious, had character features, and was pristine. The room was a wow. The hotel was very calm and peaceful. There was a very nice bar. The restaurant and cooked breakfast options weren't available, but the hotel was closing for a holiday the day after my arrival. I hope I will return the hotel was such a lovely surprise.

These are minor issues, and if asked, I wouldn't bother mentioning them. The croissants at breakfast were hard and needed warming up. The fruit looked a little old. I left my coat, and the young man at reception was brilliant, and I got it back. However, the housekeeping staff had a poor grasp of English. They were unable to help or contact him. Thankfully, he was very responsive via booking .com messages.

It was comfortable and clean. All important heating worked. Shower was lovely. Nice to get biscuits.

No milk in the room for tea/coffee. We had to ask and then only got 2 sachets which was not enough for 2 people. I kept hitting my head on the beam above the bed, way too low, room was a but snug. We didnt book breakfast, weren't aware we had to on booking. Reception didn't ask us on check in either. Bad experience when we did want breakfast though. Asked where to go, have our room number, reception didn't tell us we hadn't booked it and needed to. We waited 20 min to be served, only when others arrived and got breakfast did we realise something was off, then told we hadn't booked and they needed to check with the kitchen if there was enough food, then we waited another 15 odd min for the food. When we did finally get breakfast, it was good. We will go back but knowingly.

Absolutely beautiful honeymoon suite. Myself and my partner stayed for our engagement anniversary, we are getting married in a few weeks time so this was really special for us. Just want to say an extra big thank you to the receptionist/ management for changing our booking date due to our vehicle breaking down. We really appreciate it. Thank you . We will stay again this year, its such a lovely hotel.

Wish we booked longer, its a beautiful and romantic room. We loved the bath !

Second time we have stayed here staff very nice, hotel lovely and clean, great shower good facilities. Great for a one night stay at the price.Car parking next to hotel and the hotel owners encourage early arrivals to park there before check in and go to explore Matlock.Situated halfway between Matlock and Matlock bath can easily walk to either place.

The sloping roof in bedroom is a bit of a pain for anyone tall like myself but its ok for one night otherwise the rooms are nicely done. No wardrobe could be an issue if your staying more than one night.

Room was very big, very clean with turndown service. Huge towels and 2 very big comfortable beds. Shower Gel/Shampoo provided in the room all nice little touches. Didn't stay for Breakfast as we were at an event so we were up and off the next morning. Would stay again as it was lovely location and easy to find.

My only negative is hearing people coming to their rooms early hours of the morning and not having the respect of closing the door properly just letting it slam. There was also a phone ringing from 415am to 445am - None of which can be helped by the Hotel itself but that is my only negative from our stay.

The location was great! The room was huge. And the beds were massive!!

We were there on one of the hottest days of the year, and opening the windows was near to impossible. We found a fan, but it didn't really make a difference. The restaurant facility was unusual. We booked a table when we checked in, but they wanted to take our order at that point (approximately three hours before) and our breakfast order for the following day. The beds were very soft too.

Good value for money, clean and comfortable we was in Rm 8 in the attic, small but cozy had everything you needed for a night stay, good parking facilities,heights of Abraham cable cars very close by 10 min walk along the riverside and 5 mins from there along the riverside is matlock bath where there is a seaside like town with fish & chips and arcades, pubs with outside seating area, gulivers kingdom is close by, seems dog friendly even though we didn't have a dog.

The hotel is very good for walkers, tourists and groups. There is plenty of parking, the staff are pleasant. The historic building has been refurbished in recent years and is generally very clean and in good condition, bar the odd minor issue. The continental breakfast is pleasant and sufficient. It is good that a bar and restaurant are available on site, but not too far to the establishments at Matlock Bath and Matlock, where we ate out. It was possible to walk in the countryside from the hotel on both days of the weekend without using the car and we all had a great time, thanks! There are a variety of rooms at fair prices and it was easy for a group of 11 to stay together using their own individual bookings, as not that many places near the Peaks could offer this.
