The hotel was spacious, had character features, and was pristine. The room was a wow. The hotel was very calm and peaceful. There was a very nice bar. The restaurant and cooked breakfast options weren't available, but the hotel was closing for a holiday the day after my arrival. I hope I will return the hotel was such a lovely surprise.

These are minor issues, and if asked, I wouldn't bother mentioning them. The croissants at breakfast were hard and needed warming up. The fruit looked a little old. I left my coat, and the young man at reception was brilliant, and I got it back. However, the housekeeping staff had a poor grasp of English. They were unable to help or contact him. Thankfully, he was very responsive via booking .com messages.

It was comfortable and clean. All important heating worked. Shower was lovely. Nice to get biscuits.

No milk in the room for tea/coffee. We had to ask and then only got 2 sachets which was not enough for 2 people. I kept hitting my head on the beam above the bed, way too low, room was a but snug. We didnt book breakfast, weren't aware we had to on booking. Reception didn't ask us on check in either. Bad experience when we did want breakfast though. Asked where to go, have our room number, reception didn't tell us we hadn't booked it and needed to. We waited 20 min to be served, only when others arrived and got breakfast did we realise something was off, then told we hadn't booked and they needed to check with the kitchen if there was enough food, then we waited another 15 odd min for the food. When we did finally get breakfast, it was good. We will go back but knowingly.

Room was very big, very clean with turndown service. Huge towels and 2 very big comfortable beds. Shower Gel/Shampoo provided in the room all nice little touches. Didn't stay for Breakfast as we were at an event so we were up and off the next morning. Would stay again as it was lovely location and easy to find.

My only negative is hearing people coming to their rooms early hours of the morning and not having the respect of closing the door properly just letting it slam. There was also a phone ringing from 415am to 445am - None of which can be helped by the Hotel itself but that is my only negative from our stay.

Second time we have stayed here staff very nice, hotel lovely and clean, great shower good facilities. Great for a one night stay at the price.Car parking next to hotel and the hotel owners encourage early arrivals to park there before check in and go to explore Matlock.Situated halfway between Matlock and Matlock bath can easily walk to either place.

The sloping roof in bedroom is a bit of a pain for anyone tall like myself but its ok for one night otherwise the rooms are nicely done. No wardrobe could be an issue if your staying more than one night.

The hotel is very good for walkers, tourists and groups. There is plenty of parking, the staff are pleasant. The historic building has been refurbished in recent years and is generally very clean and in good condition, bar the odd minor issue. The continental breakfast is pleasant and sufficient. It is good that a bar and restaurant are available on site, but not too far to the establishments at Matlock Bath and Matlock, where we ate out. It was possible to walk in the countryside from the hotel on both days of the weekend without using the car and we all had a great time, thanks! There are a variety of rooms at fair prices and it was easy for a group of 11 to stay together using their own individual bookings, as not that many places near the Peaks could offer this.

The price of the breakfast is confusing. We got a continental breakfast included in our cost, a cooked breakfast would have been extra, but it now appears that you may have to pay for anything you have. The room was quite hot , we opened the window but the main road is quite noisy and made sleeping difficult. The bed was a bit uncomfortable. I like hard beds but this was very hard. However, having said all these , our overall experience with the hotel was good and we would return there.

The property was close to all amenities, parking is free but on a first come first serve basis. Check in starts from 2:30pm onwards. The staff are good and the checkin was quick. The hotel is very clean. The room we stayed in was a standard double room small but clean. Hotel is good if you’re having a short stay. There is tea and coffee making facilities available in the room along with kettle and some biscuits and chocolates.

Size, location and cleanliness of room and shower room. Excellent shower roomy and good water pressure. Location of hotel excellent to walk from to local facilities walls etc.

The mattress or something on the mattress made it get hot during the night ? memory foam, ? Waterproof mattress protector. Preference is for non memory foam or synthetic cover that generates heat. Sheets duvet cover etc were cotton so definitely a lower layer

Cooked breakfast was very good and well presented. We thought the continental breakfast which was the same price could be improved.

Your information in the hotel needs to be updated. We thought the continental breakfast was £9.99 as advertised in your hotel and an email from you also stated this so we were confused when we payed our bill to be told the continental breakfast was the same price as the cooked breakfast which we didn’t think was value for money.

Nestled in the quaint town of Matlock, hotel High Tor is quite pretty and unique in its personality. The room was cosy with plenty of refreshments. Plenty of space for two. Staff were polite and helpful and had the room all heated up for us before we arrived. Perfect for a weekend getaway. Would definitely visit again.

The curtains! one was almost coming off the pole. I would suggest curtains that went all the way to the floor for added cosiness and a complete look.
