Lovely room at the back of a beautiful pub. Nice to have coffee machine, assorted teas and fresh milk. Nice bathroom with lovely toiletries and plenty of towels. Excellent food, especially the desserts, made by a pastry chef. Friendly service, especially in the restaurant in the evening. Good breakfast with lovely homemade bread
- Service could've been more attentive overall, especially as they weren't busy. - Agree with previous reviews about the breakfast buffet. Fruit salad is on the menu but there was no fruit at all. Disagree about the bacon though - it looked wonderful but bizarrely was completely tasteless. Was it deep fried?? No-one has responded to any of these reviews (unusual on this site) that gives the impression they don't listen to customers. They have a great place here but it's not perfect.

Good breakfast choice except when I asked for some white bread I was told they only offer brown sourdough. One choice of bread isn't good enough. You are not allowed substitutes with the full English breakfast. I would have preferred an extra sausage & bacon in substitution of mushrooms & hash browns but I was told I could not.
I thought the bed was too hard despite it have a topper. Three of the four pillows were hard & were not feather & down which I have at home. Whilst you could alter the speed of the air conditioning unit setting to slow you couldn't turn it off completely. With it being above the bed you could still hear it & feel the air from it.

Very comfortable room in a pleasant occasion. Attractive outside bar overlooking the countryside
In view of the overall luxurious feel of the place, the market menu could have been more generous (for example, a tiny salad and a smattering of chips with the steak and the cheese plate had one very small piece of cheese on it - we sent it back which was accepted without dispute). We understand that, against the a la carte menu, the market menu is the budget option - however, where a place prides itself on its cooking, then any menu offer should be treated seriously and catered sufficiently

I highly recommend staying here. The staff were lovely, the room was spacious yet cosy and luxuriously decorated, and the breakfast was the best of the 7 hotels we stayed at on our 2 week road trip (my boyfriend is still talking about how good the bacon was!). They’ve really thought of everything. There’s even a mini fridge in the hallway with fresh milk for tea and coffee - a really nice touch. I felt that it was definitely worth the cost.
My only small gripe was that the bed was 2 singles pushed together and it was too uncomfortable to lie in the middle. This seems to be really common now, I’m not sure why. Perhaps a mattress topper would make the divide between the 2 beds more comfortable? Not sure if they have actual king size beds here but it’s potentially worth requesting it when booking, if that’s your preference.

The room was excellent:- a good size, well designed and equipped, warm comfortable and very clean. It was in an adjacent building to the main pub. The pub is a very traditional old English pub with various different rooms and nice log fires burning. There is an excellent and interesting selection of wines by the glass. The staff were very friendly and the food and service top notch. Breakfast too was excellent.
The terms were stated that no prepayment would be taken and I would pay at the property but it was charged to my card the day before without me knowing. Not a big deal but I wanted to pay a different way

Quality rooms, lovely decor, great food and fine service
Having to listen to the general manager undertake an interview with a prospective staff member over Zoom whilst eating breakfast. Her experience of cruise ships sounded relevant, and I hope she got the job. But there were sooo many other places he could have set himself up, and couldn’t he - at least - buy headphones?

Very clean and light room with nice view over surrounding countryside with small, shared sitting out area. Spacious bathroom, good shower. The pub had a pleasant beer garden and lovely interior divided into smaller cosy spaces. Food was excellent, everything we ate was cooked perfectly and very tasty both at dinner and breakfast. The staff were friendly and courteous.
It would have been nice to have fresh fruit at breakfast. Drinks were a little expensive compared to other places. Both minor observations which did not retract from a great stay.

Pleasant staff good food and breakfast. Beds were very comfortable.
Having to change room because of tap leakage in bathroom when I was changed for bed. The next room we were given we found one of the lights next to the bed didn’t work so we had to call staff again. In the morning we couldn’t access our room after breakfast and had to obtain an additional key card and harass the only member of staff serving breakfast.

The pub is perhaps more a restaurant but nevertheless excellent. Facilities are superb. Our rooms were fabulous with superb views and everything in the room was of the highest quality. Food was delicious, staff great. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. Everything you need for a quiet break with lovely food.
There was nothing I didn’t like and difficult to suggest any improvements other than perhaps it would be good to have a little more “pub” room.
