Fantastic peaceful location, just a few minutes walk from the rear of the railway station, and a less than ten minute walk along the riverside to town and York Minster. The owner and staff were wonderfully down to earth, friendly and accommodating. The room was spotless, comfortable, good facilities and had plenty of hangers in the wardrobe - always a plus! Dining rooms were lovely and the breakfast really tasty with eggs cooked to perfection, though we didn't have the sausages. We have been visiting York every December for years, and throughout the time one of our daughters was at University there, and wish we'd found this guest house sooner. Thank you for a lovely stay, we will return to you every time in the future.

Caroline and the staff were all so warm, friendly, and attentive. The room and dining room were really clean and cosy, and the best was super comfortable. We really appreciated all the thoughtful touches like the multi way plug and the additional heater (not that we needed it in the end)! We were really made to feel at home and looked after from greeting through to our dietary requirements (two vegans, one gluten intolerant). St Mary's is also in a great location for exploring York - just a short walk from the centre but in a quiet and leafy street beside the museum gardens.

Maybe the lighting in the room could be a little closer? But honestly, that is not picking for the sake of something to say in this box - we were perfectly comfortable and content throughout our stay.

We had an amazing time at St Mary's Guest House. The rooms are spacious, very clean and super comfortable, although a little dated. The breakfast was great and very filling with fruit cocktail and a cooked breakfast with toast!! And last but not least, the staff is absolutely lovely Christina and the other ladies were a delight, welcoming and accommodating: thank you so much for being so nice !! Close to the station but far enough away to have a nice quiet walk without the crowds. Would definitely stay again.

Brilliant location, especially for non drivers, as easy 10 min walk from station, then you can choose to walk along the river, through museum gardens to town or up the road and into top of Minster. Although so close to the city it was very quiet and slept well. Accommodation was very clean, breakfast was fresh cooked and Caroline and her team looked after us very well, very friendly, checking if we needed anything extra and great for information on where to see etc.. We wanted a ground floor room, only option left for our dates was small double, room 1, although small there was more than enough space for a couple for a few nights, wardrobe in alcove stored all clothes and case, with chair and stool to sit and have a chat and wind down with a drink before bed if you wanted, drawer desk unit to sit and write your cards, comfy bed. The location of the guest house is really nice, it is a short walk to the lake and into the city centre. It feels very homey as it is on a residential street where you can see lots of squirrels roaming about. The room itself is cosy and warm (perfect during a winter stay). The guest house is very quiet and situated on a very quiet street. The bed was very comfortable and the TV had lots of channels available. The included breakfast was good value for money. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They definitely made you feel welcomed to York.

Our experience of St. Mary's was very positive. The staff we dealt with were excellent - friendly and very helpful. St Mary's provides a good breakfast and the rooms were "cheap & cheerful" but very comfortable and had everything we needed for a good night's sleep. Location also is great and we found parking very easy. Excellent value for money. We were a bit hesitant about booking St. Mary's. We had read many good reviews and quite a few negative and even poisonous reviews beforehand. OUR EXPERIENCE WAS NOTHING LIKE THAT. We would definitely go back for a comfortable and great value stay

The staff was wonderful, so kind and gracious and hard working! Breakfast was a 10 + in a lovely dining room. Location was a 15 min walk to train and same to downtown. Room was made up daily. Very secure regarding safety.

We were on top floor. We were ok with the steep narrow stairs but others may not be due to mobility concerns, plus getting large luggage could be challenging. We were ok with smaller carry ons. It was August and was warm upstairs. If window was open, we heard trains. If window was shut, it was hot. They provided a fan which helped. These concerns would not prevent us from highly recommending it.

St. Mary’s Hotel exceeded all expectations! The rooms are incredibly comfortable, and the staff are wonderfully warm and attentive. The facilities are top-notch, offering everything you need for a relaxing stay. The price is very reasonable, making it excellent value for money. The breakfast is simply stunning—presented like a bouquet and absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

5 - 10 mins walk away from city centre and the railway station. The stuff is super warm and the property is super clean and the beautifully decorated. The breakfast is served as in the hotel.

St Mary's guest house was the perfect location for us, not too far to walk into the City. We were met by Caroline, (Queen Bee) who made us feel very welcome. The house was spotlessly clean and comfortable. There was a great choice on the menu for breakfast, and everything was freshly cooked and delicious. Nothing was too much trouble for Caroline and Abbie, thank you Ladies for making our stay so enjoyable. We would definitely recommend St Mary's, and would not hesitate to stay there again next time we are in York.

Absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be back. Location is fantastic, less than 10 minute walk to the train station and river Ouse, 15 minute walk to York minster. Situated on a quiet residential street there was zero noise at night. The property was clean, the beds were really comfortable and the staff were lovely. Check in and out couldn’t have been easier. Breakfast was great, lots of choice and in a relaxed and homely atmosphere.
