This is a lovely old traditional hotel, in an excellent location. The rooms are big with big peces of old furniture, no 21st century here. I loved it. But maybe it's not for you if you like minimalist and white plastic.
However, we chose it because it is dog friendly, and they have separate dining rooms for guests staying with dogs..but as breakfast is served buffet style in the main dining room you had to walk along 2 corridors and a half flight of stairs to get your food. This is completely impractical. We have stayed in many dog friendly hotels, and the breakfast is cooked to order and served at your table. I'm afraid the breakfast set up here would prevent me coming back to what is an otherwise excellent hotel.

We loved the entire visit so much we intended to return in July, however, although we try not to speed we were done for speeding, if this can happen to us it can happen to anyone at any time in Wales, we therefore decided to avoid the country in future after a lifetime of holidays on Anglesey!
The idiotic varying speed limits in Wales!

The rooms are huge with plenty of storage and pretty much everything you need for a hotel stay. We booked the deluxe see view. Bed was very comfortable .We used the restaurant twice in the evening the food and service was excellent. The bathroom was huge with both a bath and a walk in shower
The bed was looking very tatty so spoilt the room as everything else was so nice. Water pressure was very poor in the shower. We didn't realise we had to book in every morning for breakfast so the second day we were told ' you can sit there and only there' felt we were an inconvenience. House keepers being torn a strip of in front of guests not very professional

An excellent self service breakfast, also an option for having a choice of dishes specially made in about 10 minutes. Great choice for evening meal and a special offer for brunch for those people having breakfast. So, full board possible for minimum extra cost if you book half board. Our room was a fantastic overlooking the promenade and Snowdonia. Very clean room. Cosy bed and good bathroom, complete with lots of complementary toileteries. There's a handy lift perfectly located in a central area of the hotel. Friendly and helpful staff... all very competant and keen to please. Lots of downstairs rooms, all really well presented and cosy. This is not a bland corporate type hotel, it exudes vintage class... which has not faded. Lots of food and drink options during the day... and ice cream. You also have food and/or a drink outside. If you like antiques there are even a number of displays selling a variety of quality items. Perfect location on the sea front and centre of town. We went on a boat ride to Puffin Island, also options to sail along the Menai Straits under the bridges... we will do that next time. A great base for touring Anglesey and 'mainland' North Wales... the nearby A55 gives you a head start. Hotel car parking available and if full there is a big car park a short distance away. Bus service also available nearby, close to the castle. Highly recommended... well deserved 5 stars from us.
Can't fault it.

We stayed in 201 Fantastic room clean and well maintained ,Brilliant views from both windows and Tea & Coffee Faculties were good with biscuits refreshed daily, plus water Sparkling & Still. Bed quite spacious and comfortable. easy reach of town.
The shower was of poor flow , which made difficultly showering ,could do with a Fan out let but being old building might take some doing. even though breakfast was good, when staying before it was served to the table which we pre-fer. Not buffy as we found some food was just warm, ordering eggs was okay, service for tea & coffee was good.

The hotel is a signature building sitting impressively on the sea front with amazing views and a storied history. It is very much of another time and seeks to preserve some of the character and charm of a bygone era - by and large, it does this successfully and authentically. The decor is very 'Downton Abbey'; the bedroom we had was large and reasonably well equipped without having anything in it that you might describe as 'modern'. Generally form has the upper hand over function. The food was excellent although the setting of the heavily gilded dining room creates the suppressed hush that you only find in English eateries. Staff were very warm although we had to remind them to add our 10% dining discount to the bill, which was disappointing. Car parking was good. Outside food and drink area facing the seafront, lovely.
As with any old building, the sound proofing wasn't great between the rooms. We could hear TVs and conversations from neighbours - fortunately as all the guests seemed to be in their senior years, this died away quite early. No refrigerator in the bedroom (although a space where one might once have been), no shelf in the shower for soap or shampoo etc. (minor but irritating).

Lovely old building with decor that complimented the whole feel of the place. Big, bright, clean & beautifully set up room. Staff were really friendly & seemed to really love the place they worked. Celebrating a special birthday & we really enjoyed the whole experience.
I'm not a fan of buffet hot breakfasts & it did affect the quality of some of the food in our breakfast. The bacon was crispy but dry & hard to cut into, the black pudding was really oily as it had been stacked up & the veggie sausages were soggy & difficult to lift out of the tray (they broke up into pieces!) These things did not in any way though, cause us to not want to recommend the hotel for the overall experience. It was fabulous!

The location is perfect t jn the village/town and for me, only 40 mins to the Holyhead ferry. The staff are some of the nicest people I have ever met in a hotel. The hotel is old but does not pretend to be any else. It has amazing lighting and huge windows with some beautiful old ornate statues, drawings, and features. Breakfast is lovely with a smaller number of options done well. All around a lovely place
The bathrooms were a little dated and could do with a freshen up. The shower was a little tricky with changes in temperature but manageable. It certainly didn’t spoil my stay

Hotel was very close to the pier/ sea , castle and other amenities which was great. We took a trip to the lighthouse and saw puffin island which wasn't far at all. The staff were all very nice from reception to dining to housekeeping, the bar.... All areas... The restaurant manager was particularly pleasant and the reception staff also very nice and helpful. The gentleman on reception was very helpful sorting a query with our room.
The hotel is very under-staffed and this really affected the stay, in particular, the restaurant. On our second evening, there was only one individual attending to all the tables and more was needed for sure, help was intermittently given but not enough. We were waiting an uncomfortable amount of time at the end of our meal to settle the bill difference and the dessert plate had not been taken. A dish from the main meal was also still on our table. Our bill was incorrect too, we took menus to check the prices. All was rectified and the restaurant manager, who was really nice and clearly trying her best, was very accommodating and rectified the situation and apologised but it felt really uncomfortable. Overall, the hotel needed/ needs more staff!

The service is absolutely fantastic, the reception staff were amazing, the restaurant and bar staff were friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and efficient. Loved the pianist at dinner too, shame he doesn't do breakfast 🤣 Food was excellent quality at both dinner and breakfast, the breakfast buffet was hot and frequently topped up, I didn't eat for the rest of the day! The room was spacious, clean and comfortable with an excellent sea view, the sofa by the window being a nice touch. Overall, the hotel is like walking back into another age, Victorian splendor.......loved it.
Minor niggles, which I offered some feedback at the time for, nothing that impacted my stay in any way. I will definitely stay there again.
