Grand Serendib was truly a peaceful oasis - spectacular views over Kandy, excellent food, beautiful rooms, amazing pool and great service. While most hotels have felt a little like an episode of Faulty Towers, Grand Serendip was classy and seamless. Highly recommended.

We loved the views and the room, comfortable and modern. The staff were very friendly throughout our stay. This hotel is an excellent option if you’re looking to stay in Kandy!!

Considering it’s a 5-star hotel, we found it odd that anything outside instant coffee and tea at breakfast would have to be charged extra. It seems to be common practice at all hotels we stayed at though, so not a deal breaker at all.

Beautiful hotel with an excellent view overlooking Kandy. If you want to “splurge” a bit on your trip, this hotel is very nice & the staff is lovely. Our room was beautifully decorated & comfortable bed & shower. The balcony had an amazing view!

The dinner buffet didn’t have so many options for the price, I would have expected a bit more for a 5 star hotel. I did not like that while we were eating lunch, one of the waiters told me to hurry come outside for me to see a man right outside by the entrance of the hotel with an elephant covered in chains asking for tourists to take photos. The staff seemed amused by it, but to me It was very upsetting to see and I don’t think is a good look on the hotel at all to support that.

The food was excellent. The sky bar was also excellent and the entertainment was also really good and appreciated.

At times, the service on the skybar by a couple of the waiters wasn't the best considering the bar was about 20% occupied. A snack order didn't get put through/was forgot about and on a couple of occcassions the service was a tad slower than it might have been given the lack of people at that time in the bar. I note however that most of the time the service was good. The above issues were minor in the scheme of things and can easily be made good. Overall the hotel provides an excellent balance between quality and value for money.

Limited breakfast selection and the lunch/dinner menu are the same so options become quite limited if staying for a while. Pool is small and only 4 loungers available

Travelling with a friend so had requested a twin room, which they didn’t acknowledge when checking in, they gave us a different room with a bed to share. Not the end of the world but they framed it as an “upgrade”. We were also travelling on the train from Kandy to Ella very early so I asked if we could pay for some bread or small pastry to bring with us, as we only had ten mins so no time to sit down. They asked me to pay the full price for a continental breakfast in order to take anything away in our bag. Again not a big deal but since it’s a nice hotel I’d have hoped they’d just charge me the price of the bread/pastry and not a full breakfast that we couldn’t eat.

After a long, hot train journey from Ella, arriving at The Grand Serendib Hotel was exactly what we needed. We were exhausted, and the hotel provided the perfect place to relax and recharge. We only stayed for one night and had booked a double room and a twin room, both of which were comfortable and well-appointed. We stayed in for the evening and had dinner at the hotel restaurant, which was fabulous. My son especially loved the seafood platter and steak—both cooked to perfection. The next morning, breakfast was buffet-style with plenty of choice, all freshly prepared and of a high standard. The infinity pool overlooking the city was a real highlight—our kids absolutely loved it, and it was a great way to unwind after the journey. The hotel is also well located for visiting the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, which we did the following morning. Overall, this was just the touch of luxury we needed, and we’d definitely recommend it to anyone arriving in Kandy after a long trip.

A well appointed hotel, with good facilities. It's clean and very comfortable and one of the few establishments that we stayed in on our three-week trip that actually lived up to its pictures. It has a stunning view of Kandy. Of all the places we stayed in, this was one of the best.

We found the restaurant/dining service appalling throughout Sri Lanka. It's not uncommon to wait up to 40 minutes or longer for your order. As a more upmarket hotel, we had hoped the service ethic would be better. But it isn't. Be prepared for orders that don't come and food that takes a very long time to arrive.

I had an absolutely fantastic stay at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, the service was impeccable. The staff were incredibly welcoming, professional, and always went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. Whether it was the front desk, housekeeping, or the restaurant team, everyone was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The accommodation itself was top-notch—clean, spacious, and thoughtfully designed. Every detail, from the bedding to the amenities, reflected a commitment to quality and comfort. It felt more like a home away from home than just a hotel room.

A Truly Memorable Stay in Kandy – 5 Stars! We had a wonderful experience at Grand Serendib Hotel and can’t recommend it enough. From the moment we arrived, the check-in process was smooth, quick, and completely hassle-free — a great first impression. What made our stay extra special was the thoughtful gesture by the staff: they surprised my father with a beautifully prepared birthday cake, delivered right to his room with full cutlery. It was such a kind and personal touch that we truly appreciated. The room itself was spacious, spotless, and beautifully decorated, with a gorgeous view that we enjoyed during our stay. The bathroom was well-stocked with all essential amenities and plenty of fresh towels. Reception and room service were prompt and efficient, making everything feel easy and comfortable.

If I had to suggest anything, it would be that more power outlets in the room would be helpful — there were only three, including one for the kettle and additional mirrors. But honestly, this is a minor point and wouldn't stop me from staying here again.
