Hotel Sonenga exceeded all expectations. The room was clean, comfortable, and offered a beautiful view over the lake and surrounding hills. The facilities were well-maintained and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. The staff were exceptionally professional and kind, always ready to help. A special thanks to the owner’s son, who was consistently present and truly dedicated to making our stay enjoyable. The breakfast was excellent, with fresh and varied options, and the hotel restaurant served delicious food in a lovely setting. We left with the best impressions and highly recommend Hotel Sonenga to anyone visiting the area

Nothing just everything perfect

Super pool and an incredible buffet breakfast. The family that own it are so lovely and really helpful. One of the sons helped us out enormously when there was a train strike and we had problems getting to our next location. Our room was large with a balcony and a fridge. The rooms are basic but clean. Nice food offered in the evening. Pleasant panoramic views of the mountains in a quiet location.

The very steep cobbled route down to the town was very challenging - we found we could only manage to go up and down once a day however it is only about a 20 minute walk- worth the effort as the town is so gorgeous!

Simple family run hotel. Nice breakfast. Great pool and poolside couches and chairs. Very helpful staff. Some rooms with views of Lake Como, our room had view of mountains which was still nice. Menaggio very pretty town. A number of restaurants. Easily accessibly from Milan via train then short ferry from Varenna. Lots of lake options. Easily able to visit other lake towns. Bus service to Lugano, other lake towns as options to get around also. The rooms had excellent decor from past times in good condition.

The property is on the mountain so some steps to get into town, approximately 10min walk down cobblestone street - very pretty so not a problem for our family at all. Property owners will collect from ferry to help with bags or taxi available. I do not see this as a problem but mentioning as some people might.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tatti and all the staff at Hotel Sonenga for an unforgettable stay. My partner and I spent two nights at the hotel, and from the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed and at ease. The accommodation was excellent—our room was clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. One of the highlights was the delicious breakfast served by the pool, which made our mornings even more enjoyable. The warm hospitality, peaceful atmosphere, and lovely surroundings made this a truly special experience. We would definitely love to return and highly recommend Hotel Sonenga to anyone visiting the area!

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, and you were made to feel very welcome. The overall environment was very pleasant. The restaurant was a nice place to eat in and there was a well stocked bar.

The furniture needed updating (although the bed was comfortable) - there was a wardrobe but no chest of drawers, just a cupboard- it looked a bit like school furniture. The curtains didn't meet in the middle by quite a long way! The room was very clean but towels etc were changed too frequently to be environmentally friendly. We didn't know that the swimming pool was unheated and it was far too cold to swim in.

The staff were all super friendly, and the Mother-Son team clearly worked really well indeed to keep things running well with the support of other great staff! Food for breakfast was great with a wide choice of options. Evening meal was a smaller range but great home baked quality dishes! Menaggio is a great base - not as busy as other stops along Lake Como, but also rather pretty. Views from the balcony to the mountains and forest were stunning and forest sounds were beautiful indeed! We would surely recommend to friends and would love to return!

If you don't have your own transport, the steps up to the hotel from the centre of Menaggio is good going in warm weather, but good exercise! 😉

The hotel is located in a quiet street. We had a balcony room upstairs. The view was fantastic! The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was extremely nice and friendly. The breakfast is 15 Euros per person, but there is a large selection and everything is very delicious. The dinner was also delicious and it was nice to eat it by the pool. The water in the pool is a bit cold, but it is very good to swim in and gave a very pleasant refreshment in the heat. The air conditioner works well, and we reached the city by walking in 10 minutes. It's a bit more difficult to walk uphill on the way back, but it wasn't a problem for us. It's hard to see, but a pedestrian tunnel helps you get into town, so you don't have to walk on the main road. The ferry runs frequently, and there is a grocery store next to the port.

Parking is 7.50Eur/day, but it is worth booking a parking space because parking in the city is difficult.

The staff are very kind and flexible, and they speak many languages. The room is excellent value for money and clean. Breakfast is plentiful with a wide variety of options, and dinner is also delicious if you choose to have it. It's true there’s a bit of an uphill walk if you arrive by bus or ferry, but honestly—who doesn’t check the location of their accommodation before booking? :)

It would be nice to have a fridge or a bit more storage space in the bathroom.

The hotel owners ( Sam and his's mummy)themselves are very hospitality, they personally served their guests. They listened to your needs and tried to make you feel at home.Their staff are great too. We unknowingly thought that the hotel was on the ground level of a 15mins walk but we later learned from the local is a curvy hilly road to the hotel. From their conversation every one seem to know each other and one of the resturant owner's wife saw us with the 2 bigs luggages and she helped to called the hotel and next mins someone pick us up and to our surprise it was Sam's mun which we learnt later that they were waiting to pick us to their hotel. The room was clean with newly renovated toilet and best of all was the spacious bacony facing the lake view. Wooden bed furnitures were a bit dated but all are in good condition. Good spread of breakfast and delicious list of menu for dinner and if i am not wrong is prepared by their wonderful chef which we enjoyed his meals very much comparing to those we had eaten at some of the known restaurant. Menaggio leaves us with alot of very good & memoy and also not forgetting the nice locals we have had met over our 4 days trip there. We strongly recommend this hotel if you are in Menaggio. We will surely come back again in the future when the weather is good to use the renewly renovated pool. Thank you Sam and your mummy( so sorry! I forgotten her name )

The hotel is situated in a quiet, idyllic place. My room was large with a balcony. There is a pool opened until 21h in the season.

The room walls should be paint as there are quite dirty even if the room is clean. The distance until the center can be done by walking in about 15 min but there is a sloppy way, with lots of stairs.
