Stunning location and five-star service. The staff were so welcoming and informative. Although our room was not ready on time, we were provided a room to wait in the meantime and free drinks. I can’t rate their restaurant highly enough, delicious food and impeccable service. Upon our check-out we were also provided complimentary transport to the train station.

The beds are a little hard for my liking, but I’ve learnt this is quite normal in Japan. Could possibly be improved with a mattress topper for guests unaccustomed to the mattresses here.

Beautiful location!! The walk from the train station to the hotel with luggage was a bit of a hassle, but it was totally worth it in the end. The room was spacious and had an amazing view! Plus, they had champagne hour from 5 pm to 7 pm, where we could go to the restaurant in the hotel, have a few drinks, and enjoy the view while having a few snacks as well. This place is 15 minutes from Arashiyama bamboo forest (walking).

The only thing I might not have liked was the fact that we were not told the onsen was extra. I had checked their website, but nowhere did it say we needed to make a reservation to have the private onsen. I thought it was going to be in the room when they said "private onsen". Now we know for next time.

There is no better location in Arashiyama than Suiran. The afternoon tea on the outdoor balcony of Cafe Hassui is perhaps the most delightful pleasure of all Arashiyama. The lunch and/or breakfast at garden restaurant also make Suiran the most lavish onsen in Japan.

Perhaps needing a more casual lounge to relax or social since there is no sitting area in most rooms.

This is an exceptional hotel, well-located in a great section of Kyoto. The afternoon drink and snack by the river was most appreciated. Really attentive staff. We recommend a visit to the new museum next to the hotel.

It would be useful to have some western choices for dinner. The original room offered was unacceptable but the staff found an ideal room for us.

The staff are very polite and helpful, best hotel service I've seen since I came to japan. The hotel is located in the best area where you have a view of the river from the cafe. You can go sightseeing in kyoto or to the bamboo forest with 10 mins on foot. You're also near a train station.

Adding microwave would improve the experience more.

The location is perfect with a view of the arashiyama river, staff were very welcoming and they treated us for our honeymoon with gifts and desserts

The bathroom toilet buttons were wiped off due to how old it is, poor water power,

It was absolutely beautiful! We especially loved the gardens. Being surrounded by beautiful trees was very restful. We really enjoyed the private bath in our room and took full advantage. The staff was very attentive, friendly and kind.

A quiet and beautiful respite from the city. The garden and river views are lovely and the free champagne at the waterfront cafe after a long day of walking was greatly appreciated. The staff were welcoming and helpful every step of the way.

Would have liked to know that visits to the on site onsen require a reservation.

The landscape and the view are breathless. Couldn't find a better place.

The hotel should have public onsen and a better gym, given the size of the hotel.
