I simply loved our stay at Quinta Portela! We booked one of the cabins which offers lots of privacy, peace and a big terrace with a view. Great to wake up to or chill in the evening. Breakfast had plenty of options. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming (greetings to Silvia). We also did the local wine tasting. Finally, the property features a pool overlooking the mountains and valley. Because the hotel is small, the pool area is very quiet and chill. It felt like we had private villa with a pool :)

Wonderful Quinta, very well maintained with stunning views. The whole setup is designed for guest comfort. We did not want to drive at night, so ordered a wine tasting with charcuterie board that was our dinner—it was a wonderful assortment and perfect. Sylvia was a delight!and she was so helpful to us in many ways throughout our stay. Ruth is also a beam of smiling sunshine and everything from her kitchen was delicious. We stayed two nights in one of the lodge rooms which was spacious and very clean.

The only negative is the other guest voices transferring through the walls, but that could be difficult for the owners to fix.

EVERYTHING!! If I could give it a 12 rating, I would! Marianna asSO kind and accommodating. Ur cabin was so private and the view from the deck was spectacular. This place far exceeded our expectations. We did the charcuterie board with the wine tasting. Board was HUGE. We took the rest to our room and had brought a salad with us and that was dinner. Room was very well equipped including a wash cloth for the N Americans! Pool was lovely. So peaceful on our deck listening to roosters and fogs bathing and church bells from the village across the valley. I left our travel journal behind and Marianna found it and sent me pics of all of the pages so that I could transcribe!!. I can't say enough. Omg the breakfast! Out of this world!

We loved it so much that we tried to extend for another night but sadly, it was full. I am joking that this was a bad thing- clearly it is popular for a reason. Stay here!!!

This is an unbelievably beautiful quinta. The views from the hotel (and the excellent pool); the extremely friendly and attentive staff; the breakfast, wines, and charcuterie; complementary coffee/tea, fruit, cookies and port wine at all times of the day; the peace and quiet; the room (ours with a sundeck and very comfortable chairs); an AC that works very well. Everything was essentially perfect. We stayed here for 6 nights and didn't want to leave. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Absolutely nothing.

Very friendly staff, lovely view, great breakfast Nice swimming pool, a bit cool but very nice. Restaurants at top of valley in Armamar are a relatively short 5 minute drive, albeit twisty, and are very good.

The Douro Valley is very deep and steep so road up to the Quinta is a bit challenging. Quinta is possibly 1,000 feet up from river which was a bit more than I expected. Road is in good shape, just very twisty.

Built into the hills of the Douro, this small hotel is well-kept and comfortable and the views were breathtaking. The buffet breakfast and snacks were tasty. The staff was courteous and helpful, giving us excellent restaurant recommendations. Hope to return someday.

Because it's such a small hotel, there was a limited window for check-in.

The location and views are beautiful. The room was spacious, we had one next to the pool and had a great view. Breakfast was delicious.

A car is definitely a must, it’s a windy road to get to the property. The first time you get there, they have to open the gate to let you in, after that you get a remote attached to your room key.

The people running to Quinta are very nice. They do a fantastic job with breakfast, which included breads, croissants, homemade jams, yogurt, fruit plate, eggs and bacon. The bathroom was spacious. The pool and property are beautiful and look just like the photos.

The coffee was not good. The bed was hard. There were only sheer curtains in our room (Touriga Nacional) so the light came in the room brightly and very early, making it difficult to sleep in at all. Our room also required the use of one set of stairs so just be mindful if you have luggage or mobility limitations.

Beautiful large room with huge bathroom. The view from our window was of the Douro Valley. Sofia the receptionist was extremely helpful. A full breakfast, they even made eggs to order!

The parking was difficult to turn around. The breakfast was late (9:00 am) although they did open early on the day we left.
