Hidden behind a set of wooden doors and a statement step entrance, the rooms are arranged around a central wide wooden staircase. The size of the rooms and modern-clean fitting is amazing set against the old castle outer-walls. I arrived late from a delayed flight and was met within minutes and quickly settled-in by a charming and helpful host. Breakfast is fresh produce, both cooked and cold, with local and home made items. The location is a very short walk down past local shops, bars and eateries to the plaza or up to the castle.

Having read about parking, I parked a short distance away and walked. There is on street parking outside and space if arriving late in the day, but note to get up early and buy a ticket and respect the limited 1 or 3 hours. In the day I moved my car to a closer free parking, and only a 5 minute walk. Nothing Charm House can do about this but consider if you came by car and are having a lie-in.

Wonderful guest house in the main street that has been beautifully renovated. Comfortable room, well appointed. Breakfast is served at the top of the house with amazing views over the town. Zelda was very welcoming and friendly. She is not on site but comes to do breakfast which was delicious. Bread was fantastic! We arrived just after check in time (3pm) and no one was there but Zelda arrived very soon after making contact and we hadn’t given our arrival time as had been advised so no fault of theirs. Great location right in town.

Nothing - all wonderful.

This is a unique & lovely place to stay, in a perfect central location in Lamego's historic centre, with a very kind & knowledgeable host, Zelda. This heritage building has been adapted into a hotel in an interesting & very stylish way (the cupola above the staircase is v. cool). Our rooms were comfortable, spacious & well appointed. The bed was comfortable. We enjoyed a very nice breakfast in a stunning breakfast room overlooking the city & with a terrace directly off the breakfast room which is part of the old city wall & leads to the famous 12th century cistern & the castle. Really special & charming. Thank you Muralha Charm hotel!

Everything was great.

The artfully gorgeous renovated building is ideally located within the small town, a 5 min walk from everything that is a must see. The views of the city are magnificant, as well as the hosts that will do everything for you to feel welcomed. The breakfast is rich and so satisfying. We got here during a festival when the city was so vibrant and full of life and joy. We loved Portugal from our first visit, even more after this 6th trip.

There is nothing to dislike.

It was a great stay! The charm house is in a great neighborhood and centrally located to everything you should want to explore. The host is very accommodating and makes a lovely breakfast upstairs for you. Make sure to check out the castle, archeological museum, and the cistern! These were all recommended by the host and so glad we checked them out before we left. If I’m ever back in the area, I would absolutely stay here again. It was off season so the house was extremely quiet, only one other tenant.

There was so much to love. Behind a somewhat humble external facade on an ordinary street, the absolutely charming owner - Zilda - has created a stunning refit of an old building. There are bold modern touches but it all fitted in with original theme of the building. The rooms are modern and very comfortable. Our group (2 couples) were greeted with an invitation for sparkling wine on the roof terrace - which is also where a beautiful breakfast was prepared by Zilda the next morning. We would highly recommend - and would not hesitate to stay here again if we were in Lamego.

not much springs to mind

The owner of the hotel is lovely and goes out of her way to make sure everything is clean and in order. She made us wonderful recommendations at a local restaurant—it was fabulous! She was helpful in so many ways and very interesting to talk with about the history of the house and the area, places to go for day trips, etc. She made us a very special breakfast every morning. What a nice way to start our day!

Lovely building, very tastefully furnished and rooms/beds were comfortable and stylish. Managed to safely store bicycles in the front lobby. Breakfast was superb with views over the old town, fresh and local produce tasted fantastic and fueled us up for the day. Host was friendly & looked after us really well. Good value for the quality, 'boutique' styling and ambiance/food at breakfast. This is really a great hotel for couples travelling/sightseeing (my wife would love it !); the fact I stayed here one night on a cycling road trip was a bonus.

Minor point was some confusion over booking (already paid for two seperate rooms & host tried to put us in one twin room) but quickly resolved - just meant my room didn't have soap/shower gel (host had left/I was stripped off & in shower before I realised & to be fair I didn't phone her to sort it out as I was just tired and needed a shower after day on the road). NOT a negative but it's not really a hotel for cycle-touring due to steep steps, narrow entrance & limited storage facilities for bikes (but I loved it...)

Charming house and room, the break is on a lovely rooftop floor with lovely views of the city. The service was great. The owner is very friendly and attentive. The breakfast was fine and enough for us which are vegetarian. Lovely place to explore Lamego. Highly recommended.

Very gracious host. Newly remodeled hotel with existing Roman walls included in the visible architectual design. The details are evident...the host even served her own homemade jam as part of the generous and delicious breakfast. Breakfast is in a glassed in rooftop area overlooking ancient walls and a cathedral. The hotel entrance is almost easy to miss but the hotel is well located, quiet, and constructed with neat architectural thoughtfulness. There are stairs to access the second and third floors but the staircase is open and lovely...and help was offered for bags. My colleague even had an issue with her luggage (from the airline) and the proprietor walked her over to a shop on a small side street to get it fixed. Overall, the hotel exceeded my expectations for the price.
