The building is beautiful with a huge amount of character. The room was spacious and comfortable with a pleasant outlook over the garden. We appreciated the choice of coffees and teas and the fluffy towelling! The location is excellent with a short walk to the river, pubs, restaurants and the centre. Breakfast was excellent with a varied menu and good service.

The bathroom was cold and we could not get the towel rail to function. The beds and general decor could do with a refresh. There are steep stairs to Room 21 which should be stated before access.

Room was pleasant and I liked the classical music playing on arrival each night. The food was delicious once I had got past the lack of burgers / comfort food on the menu.

No Wifi in room 6 was a bit of a problem. I also feel that some of the decor in the hotel section of the place could do with a bit of revamping and feels a bit run down - a pity considering how nice the restaurant, bar and entrance hall are.

Big room with nice furniture, big windows. Very big and comfortable bed. Nice bath shower. Excellent restaurant for dinner and very good breakfast. Lovely and original common areas and reception rooms. Beautiful patio and garden. Helpful and friendly staff.

Just small details. The room only has blackout curtains, so during the day you have to choose between natural light or privacy. Some white clear curtains would help in allowing light in without being in full view of the house in front and the road. An extra lamp in the room would help having more light in the evening. The only mirror in the bathroom is a magnifying one, I think a normal one would be more helpful.

Our welcome began a couple of days before arrival with Rachel calling to advise us of roadworks causing chaos in the middle of Stamford and suggesting an alternative route to the hotel, which we thought was very thoughtful and kind. She also said that if we arrived early, before check-in time, that there was no problem us using the car park. When we arrived Rachel gave us a lovely friendly welcome, showed us around the hotel, before insisting that she carry our suitcase to our room. We couldn’t believe the warm welcome, having not had the same experience at another hotel in Manchester the week before! When I met Prem, the Manager, again he was most welcoming and when I mentioned my partners dietary requirements, he said that nothing was a problem, just ask for what he needed.. All the staff were most accommodating, recommending places to visit etc, the service we received is a rarity nowadays I am sorry to say. We have all ready recommended the William Cecil to our family and friends and will continue to do so. We are very much looking forward to our next visit.

We were in room 6 and the en-suite could do with a couple of hooks on either the door/wall.

I've stayed at the William Cecil several times but not for 5 years or so, I very much like the face lift throughout the hotel.

The room I was assigned (21) was in the attic and it was a hot sticky day, it was intolerably hot in the room. A large fan was provided but as the lower part of the sliding casement window was permanently fixed shut ( I understand the safety reasons for this) there was no way the fan could draw air from outside! The fan merely circulated the hot air. I spoke to reception who moved me to a smaller ground floor room, this room had opening windows and the supplied fan was able to draw in cooler air. In my opinion unless better arrangements are put in place then room 21 is not suitable for occupation in the warmer months.

We had a lovely stay here, most of the staff were friendly, however we were very disappointed with the staff at breakfast.

The girl serving us was rude and clearly didn’t want to be there. We waited ages to order and when we asked how to order breakfast, the waitress pointed at a menu and said it’s on there, then when I asked if I could have some beans with my full English i was met with a sigh , eye roll and a blunt yes. She scurried off and when she finally brought them over just put them down and didn’t off any condiments. The toaster was rubbish too.

We had a 2 night break, the location is excellent within walkig distance of the town centre and access to Burghley Park. Good parking. The staff were excellent, especially Bella who organised a change of rooms with less stairs. Millys restaurant was good, staff very helpful good breakfast , varied menu. Room comfortable nice toiletries and good shower. Fresh milk and plenty of tea and coffee making facilities. Overall an excellent stay.

A lift would have been good but with the age of the hotel not possible. Lots of stairs.

The location is great. You can walk anywhere. The garden is beautiful and we had a drink in the garden. We had breakfast and dinner. Both really tasty. Great facility in the room. We stayed in room 15. Super bed. Great night sleep. The radio is a nice touch.

The carpet in the room is damage and the cookie jar in the room was empty when we arrived. So, why leave it on display if it's empty? The room doesn't lock. It was not the room I thought I booked.
