Breakfast

The receptionist was A1. Got us an alternative room (32) to our original designated room allocation- 61 (ground floor). The room was fine (no toilet brush, but what's new). Breakfast was faultless. It wasn't buffet- we had to place an order- but it was worth waiting for. The deco in the hotel is dated, but we love it. It's soooooo cozee. Great value. Only downside- it's CASHLESS- so we probably wont return. HATE CASHLESS. Sad.

Staff, first class staff I must say, polite and patient, pleasant, welcoming. I like the feeling of Fawlty Tawers in here, some people probably wouldn't like it but me and my friend loved it. I was expecting to see Basil and Cybil somewhere on corridor or stairs...(but I didn't),atmosphere was relaxing. I enjoyed my stay here. I know this hotel starts to run after long break and many things have to be updated but my room was clean, bed was comfortable, radiators were on full so was warm in there. No complaints about that. My review is base on experience i spent one night with 2 other girls, we had girls night out, and was great. We had participated in karaoke moment, and was fantastic. I am not sure if this karaoke machine belonged to hotel or to other guests stays there but , please take a note of it, hotel staff, is great entertainment for guests (from my point of view)We thinking about coming back there in the future.

Well, here is also few things.. I will start with cleanliness... when we walk on corridor we seen some pillow cases or sheets left on windowsill or on corridor by lifts (what was out of order anyway at that moment) i seen stuck of bedding in open room doors, probably left by cleaning staff to pick up layer or during cleaning or i don't know what reason that was. Another thing is... your bar staff as much as polite and kind the were they could not help us with gin... yeah, 3 of us emptied one bottle of gin what you had in bar very quickly and you haven't got any more in stock... you should probably look into that.

From what I gather the current owners are new owners. The location is idyllic, the building is established and in places is showing its age, however the new owners seem to be spending money to bring it back up to scratch. The room was very comfortable, the bed especially comfortable. The facilities are good in the main. I know they are working to resolve the issue but WiFi wasn't working and my mobile network wasn't the best in that location. Yes there is still work to be done however the room was warm, clean and comfortable. The bar is being upgraded - unfortunately no draft available just bottles. I wish the new owners all the best and that they get it back to how it would have been - though looking at what they have done I am sure it will be in no time. Yes I could have been picky and nit picked - however I am basing this on the fact my 1 night stay was £41. For this price it is hard to fault. Thank you to the new owners and I wish you luck in your endeavours.

The food was excellent. John, the Scottish chef came out every day to check the guests were happy with their food. A definite improvement from the last time we stayed there, September 2023. All the staff were helpful and friendly, with a particular mention for our waitress, Jayne, who brightened our day.

We had to ask for loose sugar each morning of our 3 night stay. The bar didn't have any malt whisky! The lighting in the bedroom was poor. I wear glasses, which I remove to put makeup on. It was too dark in the bedroom and the mirror in the bathroom is too far away, due to the wash basin.

i love this hotel, but its not because of its facilities or decor that make this place exceptional its the location, and some of the rooms have lovely views of the former natural swimming pool which is now a haven for wildlife and views over towards the Welsh mountains .. the whole place needs some attention and you can see that they are developing and updating some of the interiors and exteriors.. but that aside its great value for money and in an exceptional location being at the foot of The Wrekin. Ive stayed at this hotel maybe 4 times already this year when ive been in the area and its my go to place and a joy each time...if you are visiting the area then this is the hotel to stay in with direct access to beautiful walks straight from the hotel..

the decor isnt really to my taste but clean and very comfortable and the rooms have most of what you need.. there are a few issues with their key card system, the bar is a bit pricey and the whole place is 'cashless', which is a trend i dislike greatly.

Breakfast was good. Plenty of it. Room was clean and comfortable. The bed was a little firmer than we are used to, but we both slept very well. No loud noise or people moving about. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Location was excellent, a very quiet countryside hotel. Plenty of car parking space. Didn't have an evening meal here so unable to comment.

A couple of minor niggles with the room, one of the light bulbs were not working, should be checked by staff when making the room up, but could have gone after they left. The button on the thermostat control on the shower was missing so unable to increase the shower temperature above luke warm. Shower gels were not replaced. Might be worth taking your own.

The staff. They were polite and went the extra mile to help and make sure that everything was OK. The breakfast in the morning was really nice and tasty, it was meant to be served at 8am, but as we had somewhere to be they did serve us earlier then that.

I went with my mum, who is disabled and struggles to walk far and take stairs. They had a lift in the hotel, but unfortunately, it would not always work, so this resulted in great difficulty for my mum, who then had no choice but to use the stairs. On one occasion, I was not with her, and I could not take her wheels up the stairs whilst she walked, but the staff at reception was more than happy to help her.

Everything was lovely and as expected, whilst is is a little dated, it remains part of the charm and we enjoyed our visit greatly, we had our wedding reception here 39 years ago and the hotel lived up to our memories. We gathered here for a family reunion, the first in 45 years and everyone loved the hotel. The staff went above and beyond their roles to ensure we had a wonderful stay.

The hotel would benefit from a sign and or a bell on the bar in the lounge to call staff when unattended, other than that the hotel was great.

Setting and ground good room ok but dark

To far away from main entrance for people with dogs and also not allowed in dining room no dog poo bins on the site . Asked about dogs in dining room told no but saw another couple in there with dog on leaving site we missed breakfast as wont leave them in the car.

The Hotel is traditionally decorated and set in very pleasant grounds, overlooking some nice scenery. The room which I booked was very comfortable; it was a decent size, with tea & coffee making facilities and had the benefit of a balcony. It was extremely quiet and there was no street noise or noise from other guests. It was also very private and was not over-looked. The inclusive buffet breakfasts were extremely good, with a varied selection from which to choose. The Hotel also had inclusive safe free parking, which is a must. My husband and I would never consider booking anywhere that did not offer such on-site parking facilities. All in all, it met our expectations from what we had viewed online and the Staff were friendly.

Decor looked a little tired, but nothing that could not be rectified with some updating. Apart from that, nothing further occurs.
