Tranquil and bursting with color, the Volcano Lodge was the perfect welcome for us in Costa Rica! We got rooms next to each other and were pleasantly surprised to see that each room had a private small heated pool in the back with a mini waterfall. What bliss! The walkways to the rooms were a step into the diverse Costa Rical flora and every turn was as exciting as the previous one. We relaxed in their thermal pools and sauna, which was the perfect relaxation after a long day. The breakfast was exceptional and we enjoyed trying local delicacies such as the traditional Costa Rican rice and beans, fried plantains, and fresh tropical fruit. It was lovely to observe the staff lay out bananas in a tree-like formation, for various birds to come and feed. What a unique experience! Overall, we are sure to come back and visit!
The only disappointment was that we had booked a 'volcano' view room but could not see it.

Liked the hot springs but was very nice to have the unheated pool to cool down in. The breakfast was great, fresh cooked eggs and juice, very important. The room was large in the junior suite, bed was very comfortable.
Would be nice to have a location for smoking somewhere on the facility. Out of the way but not have to go all the way to the front entrance. I think it looks worse when people are smoking at the front of the hotel in clear view for anyone coming in.

The private hotspring made the room and stay. They had complimentary snacks and wine which was cool. The landscaping was pretty and seeing the animals, various birds and iguanas was pleasing as well. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast as well, buffet style with decent options to select from and a hot grill to make fresh omelets for you. They have the best watermelon juice I've ever had. Fresh fruit if you enjoy lighter breakfast. Wet bar provided. Showers give nice hot water.
You need to make sure you ask for room service bc they'll only come every few days if not requested and really room needs to be swept and mopped at least every other day due to the ants.

Compared to some of the more pricey properties in this area where we also stayed, this was a great option overall for a room with a private mineral hot tub. We loved the mineral hot tub in our large, mostly secluded back yard and this was the best feature to staying here. We took two couples massages in our brief stay here, one on check in, and one on check out the next day, and the spa and therapists here are a big plus, as they were some of the best massage therapists we have tried and the manager was very helpful and accommodating, too. The public mineral spa facilities which we did not use but saw when touring the property seemed great for those who did not have a private mineral spa as we did. The restaurant was relatively affordable and had many good options. Try the "green wine" from Portugal.
We arrived earlier than anticipated due to a mistake made by our transfer company and the reception staff was not as accommodating, sympathetic or considerate as they could have been despite not being able to offer an early check in, so our initial experience on arrival was not pleasant. Once a manager got involved they started to treat us better and by the time we left the next day, the staff was being very helpful and accommodating.

Great location with lush nature around. The hot springs are definitely a plus. Very good breakfast. Big, comfortable rooms and beds. Would definitely recommend it.
The pool was under construction and couldn‘t be used. This was not mentioned when we checked in. Other than that, everything was fine.

Thermal pool in garden was lovely Room nice and clean
We when arrived early to drop our bags off we were told our room would be ready at 1.30pm. When we returned at 2.30pm we were then told without apology that it was now 3pm. We drove all the way back and wasted a lot of our time. If they had just said 3pm to begin with we would have been fine but they messed us around and didn't even apologise for the inconvenience. Also the safe was already locked when we got to the room, we had to wait for someone to come out. For the price of the room we would have expected final inspection to have picked this up and not waste our time getting someone out.

This is a very nice resort. I have to say, sitting in the thermal pools in the rain with a cocktail from the swim-up bar is pretty nice! The resort has 1 normal pool which is next to the restaurant. There there are three thermal areas, The first is behind some cabanas next to the pool. It has a 2-tiered thermal pool. The top pool is very hot! Even the lower one is hotter than I prefer. There is a jacuzi pool behind some foliage that I didn't try. Then there is a thermal complex a short walk into the woods. There are 6 or 7 semi-private alcoves that fit 6 or 8 people each. The access to all of these is from a swim-up bar that is very inviting. The alcoves are actually slightly different temperatures. We found one that was on the cooler side that allowed us to feel comfortable for a hour or two. Towels are provided, but be sure not loose them or the tickets they give you to procure one or else you will owe the resort $20 each towel. The rooms are clean and have access to a little concrete patio area behind the room. The only odd thing was the door does not have a handle on the outside, so you could never fully close the door when out on the patio. That was annoying, but workable. The resort puts out food for birds, so there is EXCELLENT bird watching here. There is an open-air lounge next to the restaurant which is just an open structure with tables and chairs. It was nice to go there and play cards or watch the birds in our down-time. The breakfast is buffet style, with both Costa Rican and some US offerings. There was an omelet bar when I was there. Food was generally good and plentiful. We did not order lunches or dinners there, because the food was too expensive for us.
Pricey.

The pools were excellent, not crowded when we were there and the water was a great temperature. The hot pools were great and we enjoyed spending time in them all. Breakfast was AWESOME - great selection of foods and the dining room area was so clean. I really liked how the staff kept everything so very clean, wiping everything down and mopping up water from the rain on the sidewalks, paths and restaurant floor. I was very impressed!
The water in the thermal forest was very brown....??? It felt good, but???

Everything! The thermal pools, view of arenal, and the lighted forest setting exceeded our expectations! The restaurant was convenient, with delicious food and wonderful staff!!! Our room was comfortable, and we loved having a private hot springs.
It would be difficult to find any negatives, since everything was A plus! but we'd like to suggest the management switch to electric leaf blowers and other landscaping equipment, as the gas powered type are horrible for the environment -- and were the ONLY thing that detracted from the serenity of volcano lodge.

The evening food was excellent.
