Our two night stay at Tickled Trout was just perfect. The charming staff warmly welcomed us, and could not have been more helpful. Our room was exceptionally comfortable with a gorgeous view over the Kent countryside. Be sure to try the Tickled Trout breakfasts - the Full English was just heavenly! FYI. we also booked a table for dinner and experienced a truly mouthwatering menu selection and excellent service - comps to the chef(s) and staff. Tip: Don't forget to try the fabulous Balfour wines, beers and ciders !

Welcoming and attentive staff...especially Rob who couldn't do enough for us. Amazing food and wine. Spacious room. Accommodating of our dog. Overall, a relaxing break with a friendly atmosphere. Good selection of tea, coffee, and biscuits, which staff were happy to replenish.

Would have appreciated management presence in bar...locals seemed a force to be reckoned with and inconsiderate of diners despite bar staff's request full wall between the bathroom and the bedroom. Mismatched furniture...wicker headboard, for example, was dated and not that comfortable...shabby chic! Smart tv had poor signal,

We recently stayed in the Balfour Suite at The Tickled Trout, and from start to finish, it was an outstanding experience. The room itself was beautifully appointed—spacious, stylishly decorated, and exuding both comfort and charm. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep, and the attention to detail in the amenities made our stay feel truly special. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the dining experience. Dinner was nothing short of exceptional, with every dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The locally sourced ingredients were evident in the freshness and quality of each course. The service was equally impressive—attentive without being intrusive, with the staff striking the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth. The atmosphere in the restaurant was inviting and relaxed, making for a wonderful evening. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the entire experience was seamless. If you’re looking for a boutique stay with excellent food and service, The Tickled Trout is an absolute gem. We can’t wait to return!

Warm welcome from great staff upon arrival. Nice sized well decorated clean room, comfortable bed and great breakfast. Great tea and coffee selection in the room. There was plenty of room in their car park. As we were leaving, the general manager was sweeping the car park - joked with him that it was pretty spotless as it was, but he likes to lead by example and certainly has high standards. I suggested the only thing missing in the bar / restaurant was a real fireplace, which was replied perfectly with "We are looking into that, with possible planning permission required". Would certainly consider staying here again!

Room was cold upon arrival, but staff assisted and made sure we were ok (someone was a bit keen with the radiator controls, turning everything off)!

The room was great - really comfortable and clean, with lovely toiletries and towels in the bathroom. Charming historic coaching inn with lots of history. Dinner was delicious, with a great choice of English wines. Would definitely return.

Although the dinner was delicious, it would have been great to have had a vegetarian offer on the mains menu. There were two vegan dishes - but that's not the same thing! It's happening everywhere and it's not right - a vegetarian option should be offered alongside a vegan option, as there are still more vegetarians in the UK than vegans. They weren't able to swap a meat burger for a veggie one which was disappointing - that's an easy hack!

Room was veeery spacious! In fact it was more of a suite. Dinner was good, if a shade on the expensive side. Staff service in the restaurant absolutely exemplary.

The 'small print' on the booking is somewhat daunting with promises of fines and charges for damage etc. I find this somewhat unusual. I appreciate that they allow dogs to stay so it's probably a system that's been adopted to make this viable. Emails were automatically sent regarding express check in and check out giving the impression that the place is a large corporate entity with a busy 'front desk'. I found these a bit pushy and inaccurate. In fact it's a fairly quiet country pub on a main road. There is no front desk..

food was incredible very tasty and good sized portions , Mark and his team were very friendly and knowledgeable ,we took our dog with us and she was made very welcome and they made lots of fuss which she loves along with all the free doggy treats. we stayed for two nights and the room was very clean and had all of the amenities you would expect in a 5 star hotel ! . bonus of lovely countryside walks down the river , helped work off the extra pounds we put on ! thanks Mark and your fabulous team for a brilliant birthday stay ,we will defiantly staying again .

We’ve stayed here a few times now and we only live 25 minutes away! But this place makes us feel like we’ve taken a trip away. The food is always great, but the staff are what really makes it special. Always happy, with a story to tell, we always stay up later than planned because we’re having such a nice time chatting at the bar! The rooms are all individual with a different name with beautiful decor, and super comfy beds. We aim to work our way around all the rooms 😊 Thanks again, we’ll be back again soon.

Nothing!

The staff were all very attentive. The room was so comfortable and clean. The menu in the restaurant was good, if a little expensive.

Breakfast was a little too late at 8am as I needed to be out by 730. Also there was a quiz on in the main bar that you could hear very well from my room. Would have been nice to have taken part but all the tables were booked out. Although I did have use of the restaurant for as long as I needed.

Despite a conversation in advance, there was a mix up with the booking, but the staff were excellent at resolving it. TV in my room didn't turn off, other than by switching it off at the wall. Excellent bed, really comfy. Lovely cotton sheets and squashy pillows. Delicious breakfast - and the staff offered to flex what they offered to suit my requirements.

A non slip mat in the shower would be a good idea... Also there is very uneven surface by the door to the rooms, which I had trouble with, esp unfortunate as I'm on crutches after foot surgery. It would help to fix it, or put hazard tape there to warn people.
