The restaurant/hotel were great, set in a lovely location. It's a beautiful village with plenty to do in the surrounding area, and a delicious ice cream shop over the road. Breakfast was tasty with everything on offer, we didn't eat otherwise in the restaurant but the food looked really good. The rooms are big, period style but tidy and everything you need.

The hotel check in staff member was very rude. Not only to me but the person checking in ahead of me too. It may be a busy hotel but this is the service industry - there should be more professionalism than what we experienced. What a let down for an otherwise fabulous stay.

Superb location ,ideal for visiting Fountains Abbey ,Harrogate and knaresborough. Lovely places to walk from the Boars Head. Next to a deer park and guests at the hotel have free access to the dear park. All the staff were excellent but a special mention to Paula at reception. I had booked the wrong dates and turned up a week early.expecting to be told there was no room ,Paula arranged with the Manager to prepare a room for us and saved the day and our Easter weekend.

Didn't stay there long enough

Perfect location for walking / seeing the castle. Reception, waiting and bar staff were really friendly.

Breakfast: Daughter has a mild intolerance to gluten, dairy and eggs and struggled to have a cooked breakfast. She could have had the hash browns as the amount of dairy in these would not have caused any problems but the chef refused to serve. I would have thought, given the items they served her (bacon, GF bread and avocado) that they would have given more than 2 x rashes of bacon and 1 piece of toast! Everyone's plates in the restaurant were hugely filled. My cooked breakfast just tasted of vinegar. They must cook the poached eggs in it and the plate was swimming in the water which just made the bacon and has browns taste of this! Dinner: Steaks were overcooked, chips under. Room: Boiling hot, bathroom towel rail on high with no way of controlling it that we could see.

The breakfast was excellent with a good choice. The staff were very helpful. We had two bikes and they were able to store them safely and we were never kept waiting to access the storage room. The room was very spacious and nicely furnished. Ripley is a lovely place to visit and the Boars Head is an integral part of this picturesque village.

In general there was not much not to like, however the toiletries in the bathroom was not replenished and we had to ask for replacements. We were not particularly impressed by the evening meals. The menu promised high high end dishes at an appropriate price but what actually came did not match our expectations. There was also a distinct lack of vegetables and it was necessary to order additional veg.

Area ,the food and dog friendly

The charge a dog to high 25£ a night is ridiculous 10£ is sufficient which it has been in the past, Unless the charge is reduced we will not stay ,which is a shame as we love it there

A great location on a quiet street with an ancient church and a castle, literally feet away from the front door. Fountains Abbey is just down the road so it was perfectly situated for us. The room (Yellow) was lovely and everything was so clean and comfortable. Dinner was delicious and breakfast was bountiful (and also delicious!). The staff were all so kind and helpful. We would definitely stay there again!

Nothing!

Quiet and picturesque location and yet not far from the A1. Room in the courtyard was very comfortable with a pretty view from the arched window, comfortable seating, good shower over the bath, and ambient lighting. Bar staff were very friendly and helpful. Small lounge with board games and quizes next to the bar was a refreshing way to spend the evening. Restaurant and bar tables nice laid out and the food was exceptional.

The receptionists seemed a little too busy to be the help we needed for eg we arrived 1.30pm for 2pm check and did enquire if the room might be ready early which it wasn't but there was no attempt to show us where we could wait or to explain where the restaurant was as we'd pre booked a table. Breakfast staff could have been better organised and friendlier eg.there were not enough jams and butters available and they could have been more attentive though one of them we think was being trained so maybe that was the reason.

Ripley is a beautiful and fascinating estate village; part of the Ripley castle estate. The castle was remodelled in the 1780s and the entire village was rebuilt in the second quarter of the 19th century, in a neo-gothic style. The Boar's Head was part of this rebuilding and is a beautiful building, constructed to the highest standards. The staff are friendly, helpful and proud of their pub and the village. The room was spacious and airy and the bed very comfortable. The en-suite bathroom had a bath and a shower with plentiful hot water. We had dinner in the bar - a delicious beef and ale pie washed down with a pint of Black Sheep bitter. Breakfast the next morning was well cooked and tasty. Every aspect of our stay was great and we will certainly be going back in the future.

It was a beautiful old building with lots of character. The room was really nice, warm and comfortable. The location was fantastic and we had free entry to the castle grounds, in which we had a couple of lovely walks around the lake and deer park, the gardens were lovely too, well stocked and will return to see them in full bloom.

There was a lack of comfortable seating in and around the bar area, if you just wanted a drink rather than food. We booked for a meal on the first night and thought it would be in the restaurant, but were seated in the bar, to my disappointment. The food was good, but the drinks were extremely expensive. For these reasons, we ate out the second night, on our return we ordered some drinks, but there was nowhere comfortable to sit so took them to our room instead.
