Hotel full of charm and character located in a beautiful village not far from Harrogate. Good communication prior to visit re room and restaurant booking from Donna & Paula. Free access to Ripley Castle grounds and garden. Nice relaxed evening meal and then great breakfast in the morning, what more do you want/need from a hotel….

The restaurant/hotel were great, set in a lovely location. It's a beautiful village with plenty to do in the surrounding area, and a delicious ice cream shop over the road. Breakfast was tasty with everything on offer, we didn't eat otherwise in the restaurant but the food looked really good. The rooms are big, period style but tidy and everything you need.

The hotel check in staff member was very rude. Not only to me but the person checking in ahead of me too. It may be a busy hotel but this is the service industry - there should be more professionalism than what we experienced. What a let down for an otherwise fabulous stay.

Superb location ,ideal for visiting Fountains Abbey ,Harrogate and knaresborough. Lovely places to walk from the Boars Head. Next to a deer park and guests at the hotel have free access to the dear park. All the staff were excellent but a special mention to Paula at reception. I had booked the wrong dates and turned up a week early.expecting to be told there was no room ,Paula arranged with the Manager to prepare a room for us and saved the day and our Easter weekend.

Didn't stay there long enough

This is a lovely hotel in a great location. Staff are amazing, We ate in the restaurant the food was very nice as was the breakfast. Will definitely stay again .

We liked the area/ village. The outside character was lovely but very dated inside but some may find this part of its charm. Breakfast was lovely. Beds comfy and nice linen

Decor around hotel/bedroom and shabby carpet in bedroom. Frayed edges and ill fitting. The biggest issue which put a dampener on our stay was the unprofessional lady on our check out. She was rude , loud and confrontational when I said thank you and raised a few minor house keeping issues. I’m not mentioning the lady’s name as it would cause great embarrassment to her and the hotel’s reputation. Training for this lady is a must and the hard work and professionalism of other staff is marred by this one member of staff.

Perfect location for walking / seeing the castle. Reception, waiting and bar staff were really friendly.

Breakfast: Daughter has a mild intolerance to gluten, dairy and eggs and struggled to have a cooked breakfast. She could have had the hash browns as the amount of dairy in these would not have caused any problems but the chef refused to serve. I would have thought, given the items they served her (bacon, GF bread and avocado) that they would have given more than 2 x rashes of bacon and 1 piece of toast! Everyone's plates in the restaurant were hugely filled. My cooked breakfast just tasted of vinegar. They must cook the poached eggs in it and the plate was swimming in the water which just made the bacon and has browns taste of this! Dinner: Steaks were overcooked, chips under. Room: Boiling hot, bathroom towel rail on high with no way of controlling it that we could see.

The breakfast was excellent with a good choice. The staff were very helpful. We had two bikes and they were able to store them safely and we were never kept waiting to access the storage room. The room was very spacious and nicely furnished. Ripley is a lovely place to visit and the Boars Head is an integral part of this picturesque village.

In general there was not much not to like, however the toiletries in the bathroom was not replenished and we had to ask for replacements. We were not particularly impressed by the evening meals. The menu promised high high end dishes at an appropriate price but what actually came did not match our expectations. There was also a distinct lack of vegetables and it was necessary to order additional veg.

The location is amazing, on the Ripley Estate, you have free access to the castle and grounds, which are well worth a visit. The pub is very comfortable with no pretentiousness and all staff went over and above board to make our stay comfortable, including our four legged friend 💗 we ate in the restaurant and the food was sublime for the price, we’re from “down south” so the prices were amazing for the portion sizes, the desserts are some of the best we have sampled. The breakfast was absolutely delightful with lots on offer, again, huge portions! We had a room in the courtyard and one in the “house” across the road, we were very comfortable in the rooms. The village of Ripley is like stepping back in time and is well worth a meander! The “world famous Ripley ice cream” is delicious especially the rhubarb flavour, what’s not to like? I can’t rate this gastro pub/hotel highly enough and would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again, maybe on our way home from our holidays 😉

Too short a time there 😆

Great location. Food in the evening was exceptionally good. Breakfast was good too. Bus to/from Harrogate stops right outside. Good selection of beer & wine choices.

The lighting in the bathroom and the size of sink were inadequate for easy wet shaving. The dining room wasn't very welcoming (tablecloths on the dark melamine tables would have helped this). We could have eaten in the cosy bar area but it was very warm and noisy. You can no longer visit Ripley Castle other than the grounds (and they close at 2pm) The young man behind the bar actually checked his phone midway through pouring our pints but other than that the staff were very friendly and efficient.

The Boars Head at Ripley is a real find. We had booked into a courtyard room which was dog friendly as this was on offer from the booking company at a special rate. In the end we got upgraded to a room in the main house as there were other people with dogs who wanted our room and we did not have a dog. A largish room with double or twin beds and a large modern ensuite in our room which was called Busby. There was a good selection of real ales at the bar and a large dining room as well as the bar to eat. The historic estate village itself is well worth a wander around. A very good breakfast is offered with a variety of hot dishes as well as the cold buffet. There is on-site car parking both at the front and rear of the hotel which is also on a regular half hourly bus route between Ripon and Harrogate/Leeds. Your residency also entitles you to free access to the adjacent Ripley Castle grounds and gardens.

Menu choice seemed a bit limited.
